The New York Mets blew a lead but then win the game in extra innings



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-4 in ten innings.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and pitched very well, the bullpen blew the lead and win for deGrom.  Michael Cuddyer and Kevin Plawecki each had two hits. 

deGrom pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with no walks and nine strikeouts.  Hansel Robles gave up two hits and two runs, Alex Torres pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Carlos Torres pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit.  Jeurys Familia picked up his first win of the season pitching two innings and giving up a hit and walking two with a couple of strikeouts.  Familia earned his first win of the season. 

Jerome Williams pitched six innings and gave up five hits and three runs.  He walked four and struck out four.  Luis Garcia pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one, Giles pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Gomez lost his first game of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.  Araujo pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he walked two batters. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk, Juan Lagares had a hit and drew a walk and Lucas Duda had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks.  Daniel Murphy had a hit and drew a walk, Cuddyer had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Flores had a hit and two RBI.  Eric Campbell drew a walk, Plawecki had two hits and Murphy hit a double.  The Mets were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Granderson had a stolen base. 

Ben Revere had two hits and two RBI, Freddy Galvis had a hit and an RBI and Chase Utley had two hits and drew a walk.  Maikel Franco had a hit and an RBI, Grady Sizemore had a hit and Herrera drew a walk.  Carlos Ruiz had two hits, Williams had a hit and Cesar Hernandez had a  hit.  Revere hit a triple and the Phillies were 3-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Herrera was caught stealing. 

Duda hit an RBI single in the third to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Cuddyer hit a two run single to make it a 3-0 game.  In the eighth Revere hit a two run triple, Galvis hit an RBI single and Franco hit an RBI single to make it 4-3 Phillies.  In the bottom of the eighth Flores hit a sac fly to tie the game at four.  In the tenth Flores hit an RBI single to make it 5-4 and that was the final score.   

The Mets swept the three game series and will be off on Thursday.  They will host the Miami Marlins in a three game series which begins on Friday night.
