The New York Mets shutout the San Diego Padres on the West Coast



The New York Mets defeated the San Diego Padres on Monday night.  The game took place at Petco Park in San Diego, California and the final score was 7-0.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and pitched great.  Ruben Tejada had three hits and Daniel Murphy had four hits. 

deGrom pitched eight innings giving up no runs and two hits.  He didn't walk a batter and he struck out eight and picked up his sixth win of the season.  Sean Gilmartin pitched an inning striking out one. 

Andrew Cashner pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up 11 hits and six runs with five of them being earned.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out 12.  Cashner took his eighth loss of the season.  Shawn Kelley pitched 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts, Kevin Quackenbush pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Cory Mazzoni pitched an inning with a walk.  Brandon Maurer pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Tejada had three hits, Murphy had four hits and three RBI and Michael Cuddyer had a hit.  Wilmer Flores had two hits and an RBI, Daniel Ceciliani had a hit and an RBI, Juan Lagares had two hits and an RBI and Kevin Plawecki drew a walk.  Tejada, Cuddyer and Murphy each hit a double, Lagares hit a triple and Murphy hit a homerun.  The Mets were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Ceciliani  had a stolen base and Murphy was caught stealing. 

Will Middlebrooks had a hit, Barmes had a hit and the Padres were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left one man on base.  Middlebrooks committed an error. 

In the first Murphy hit an RBI single and Ceciliani reached on a throwing error and a run scored to make it 2-0 Mets.  In the fifth Murphy hit a two run homerun, Ceciliani hit an RBI single and Lagares hit an RBI single to make it a 6-0 game.  In the seventh Flores hit an RBI single and it was 7-0 Mets which would be the final score. 

The two teams will continue their series on Tuesday night in San Diego.
