The New York Yankees return home to defeat the Miami Marlins



The New York Yankees defeated the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Michael Pineda started and pitched great carrying a no hitter into the seventh inning.  Alex Rodriguez and Carlos Beltran each had two hits. 

Pineda pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with two walks and nine strikeouts.  Pineda won his eighth game of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched to one batter and struck him out, Justin Wilson pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Dellin Betances saved his fourth game of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings and giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. 

Jose Urena pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs with four walks and a strikeout.  Urena lost his third game of the season.  Brad Hand pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Mike Dunn pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and Rodriguez had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks.  Garrett Jones drew a walk, Beltran had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Stephen Drew had a walk.  Mason Williams had a hit, Gardner hit a double and the Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Rodriguez had a stolen base. 

Christian Yelich had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Marcell Ozuna had a hit and Justin Bour drew two walks.  Adeiny Hechavarria drew a walk, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and Yelich hit a homerun.  The Marlins were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Ozuna had an outfield assist. 

In the first Rodriguez hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Beltran hit an RBI single to increase the Yankees lead to 2-0.  Miami got on the board in the seventh with a Yelich solo homerun which was their only run and also their first hit of the game.  The final score was 2-1.  The two teams will play one more game on Thursday night at Yankee Stadium.
