The New York Mets go down 0-2 in the World Series



The New York Mets were defeated by the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Kaufmann Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri and the final score was 7-1 Royals.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and pitched ok but not great.  Lucas Duda had the only two hits for the Mets. 

deGrom pitched five innings giving up six hits and four runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  deGrom took the loss in the game, Hansel Robles pitched a perfect inning, Jon Niese pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout and Addison Reed pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit.  Sean Gilmartin pitched 2/3 of an inning. 

Johnny Cueto pitched nine innings giving up two hits and a run with three walks and four strikeouts.  Cueto won the game. 

Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Daniel Murphy drew two walks and Duda had two hits and an RBI.  The Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Duda committed an error. 

Alcides Escobar had two hits and two RBI, Lorenzo Cain drew a walk and Eric Hosmer had two hits and two RBI.  Kendrys Morales had a hit, Mike Moustakas had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Salvador Perez had a hit.  Alex Gordon had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks.  Alex Rios had a hit and Paulo Orlando had an RBI.  Perez and Gordon each hit a double and Escobar hit a triple.  The Royals were 5-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

In the fourth Duda hit an RBI single giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Escobar hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  Hosmer hit a two run single to make it 3-1 Royals.  Moustakas hit an RBI single and it was 4-1 Royals.  In the eighth Gordon hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 5-1, Orlando hit a sac fly to make it 6-1 and Escobar hit an RBI triple to make it 7-1.  The Royals took a 2-0 lead in the series and it will shift back to New  York now for games 3-5.

The New York Mets win their second game in a row



The New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field and the final score was 2-1.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched great and the Mets offense managed two hits but that was enough to win. 

Syndergaard pitched eight innings giving up five hits and a run with no walks and five strikeouts.  He won his third game of the season.  Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning and earned his 21st save of the season. 

Johnny Cueto pitched six innings giving up two hits and two runs with three walks and six strikeouts and he lost his fifth game of the season.  Manny Parra pitched an inning with a strikeout, Nate Adcock pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Eric Campbell drew a walk and Lucas Duda had an RBI and drew a walk.  Dilson Herrera had a hit which was a triple and Granderson hit a homerun.  the Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Granderson had a stolen base. 

Brandon Phillips had a hit, Todd Frazier had a hit and Jay Bruce had a hit.  Brayan Pena had a hit, Chris Dominguez had a hit and an RBI and the Reds were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Phillips ahd two stolen bases and Frazier was caught stealing.  Suarez committed an error. 

In the first Granderson hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Dominguez hit an RBI ground out to tie the game at one.  In the fifth Duda had an RBI walk to make it 2-1 and that would be the final score.

The New York Mets win in grand style on a walk-off grand slam

The New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at

Citi Field in Flushing, New York.  Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched well.  Ike Davis was the

offensive star for the Mets.  The Mets bullpen was also good which is a rarity.  The Mets offense

only managed six hits but the biggest one was the walk-off by Ike Davis. 

Gee pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Scott Rice pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one and Carlos Torres picked up his first win pitching an inning and giving up a hit and striking out two batters. 

Johnny Cueto pitched seven innings giving up five hits and two runs with three walks and nine strikeouts.  Sam LeCure pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and J.J. Hoover didn't record an out and gave up a hit and four runs with two walks. 

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and David Wright drew a walk.  Curtis Granderson had a hit and two RBI, Juan Lagares had a hit and drew two walks and Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew two walks.  Davis had a hit and four RBI.  Tejada hit a double, Granderson and Davis each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Brandon Phillips had a hit and two RBI, Ryan Ludwick had a hit and an RBI and Todd Frazier had a hit and drew a walk.  Barnhart had two hits, Cueto had a hit and Heisey had a hit.  Heisey hit a double, Ludwick and Phillips each hit a homerun.  The Red were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Phillips committed an error. 

Ludwick hit a solo homerun in the fifth to give the Reds a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Granderson hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  Phillips hit a two run homerun in the eighth to give the Reds a 3-2 lead.  In the ninth Davis hit a walk-off grand slam to give the Mets a 6-3 victory. 

The two teams will play the finale of their three game series on Sunday afternoon.  Jon Niese will be activated from the disabled list to make the start and try to give the Mets a three game sweep.

The Mets get swept at home by the Reds

The New York Mets were defeated by the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Chris Young started for the Mets and pitched well again. The Mets bullpen pitched well. Josh Thole led their offense which didn’t produce much. Johnny Cueto started for the Reds and pitched very well and their bullpen shut it down. Zack Cozart led the Reds offense. 
Young pitched seven innings giving up nine hits and three runs with two of them being earned. Young walked two and struck out two and suffered his first loss of the season. Jon Rauch pitched an inning walking a batter and striking out another batter and Frank Francisco pitched an inning giving up a hit. Cueto pitched seven innings giving up six hits and a run. He walked one and struck out eight and Cueto picked up his eighth win of the season. Jose Arredondo pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and walking one and Sean Marshall picked up his ninth save of the season. Marshall pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings including a strikeout.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit, David Wright had a hit and Lucas Duda had a hit and drew a walk. Ike Davis had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Thole had two hits. Young had an RBI and drew a walk, the Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and they left seven men on base. Duda committed an error.

Cozart had three hits, Wilson Valdez had a hit and an RBI and Joey Votto had three hits and drew a walk. Brandon Phillips had a hit and an RBI, Jay Bruce drew a walk and Willie Harris drew a walk. Ryan Hanigan and Cueto each had a hit. Cueto, Cozart and Hanigan each had a double. The Reds were 3-14 with runners in scoring position and they left 10 men on base. Cairo and Harris each had a stolen base. Cairo committed an error.

In the second Young walked to give the Mets a 1-0 win. In the fifth Valdez hit an RBI single. Phillips hit a two run single and it was 3-1 Reds. The Reds would hold onto that lead and that would be the final score.

The Reds swept the three game series. The Mets record dropped to 35-32 and they have been involved in three straight sweeps. They got swept then swept a series and now got swept again. The Reds improved their record to 38-27. The Mets will remain at home and begin a three game series with the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night.

The Yankees let one slip away and lose the series to the Reds

The New York Yankees lost to the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 5-2 on Sunday afternoon. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx,NY. The Yankees had won the first game of the series on Friday night and lost on Saturday afternoon. They had a two run lead in the seventh inning with their ace on the mound and lost it. This was a very bad loss for the Yankees who have been struggling. Sabathia overall pitched well but he had a bad inning in the seventh and that cost the Yankees the game. The Yankees offense didn’t do much but they did face Johnny Cueto who is one of the better pitchers in the game. 
Sabathia pitched seven innings giving up three runs on six hits. He walked five which is the problem including three in a row in the seventh inning to give up the lead. Sabathia did strike out six batters. Sabathia suffered his second loss of the season and second in a row. Cory Wade pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. Boone Logan pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout and Rafael Soriano pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. Cueto won his fifth game pitching seven innings and giving up eight hits and two runs. He walked two and struck out five. Aroldis Chapman earned his first save with a perfect inning striking out one. They used two relievers to get through the eighth and they struck out one and didn’t give up a hit.

Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk, Robinson Cano had two hits and drew a walk and Raul Ibanez had two hits and two RBI. Eric Chavez had a hit and Chris Stewart had two hits. Cano had a double and Ibanez a homerun. The Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and they left seven men on base. Alex Rodriguez committed an error and Stewart had a passed ball.

Drew Stubbs had a hit and drew a walk for the Reds. Joey Votto drew two walks, Brandon Phillips had a hit, RBI and drew a walk and Jay Bruce had a hit. Ryan Ludwick had three hits and three RBI. Todd Frazier had a hit, Ryan Hanigan had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Zach Cozart had a hit and drew a walk. Ludwick had a double and a homerun and Hanigan also had a homerun. The Reds were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. Frazier was caught stealing and Valdez committed an error.

The game was scoreless until the sixth inning when Ibanez hit a two run homerun. The Yankees had a 2-0 lead. In the seventh inning Ludwick and Hanigan hit solo homerun to tie the game at two. Sabathia gave up a single and three straight walks to make it 3-2 Reds. In the ninth Ludwick hit a two run double to make it 5-2 Reds and that would be the final score.

The Yankees after winning the first game of the series lost the last two games. They lost two out of three and will now take on the Kansas City Royals in a three game home series. The Yankees record dropped to 21-20 on the season and the Reds improved their record to 21-19.
