New York Yankees defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 2-1



The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 2-1.  Nathan Eovaldi pitched two good innings and the bullpen pitched well.  Starlin Castro provided the offense with a two run homerun. 

Eovaldi pitched two scoreless innings giving up no hits and he walked two.  He also struck out two batters.  Vinnie Pestano pitched an inning giving up a hit, Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Diego Moreno pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts.  Brandon Pinder pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two, James Pazos pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Richard Bleier pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a couple of strikeouts.  Kirby Yates pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a couple of strikeouts. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Alex Rodriguez had a hit and Chase Headley had a hit.  Castro had a hit and two RBI, Ellsbury hit a double and Castro hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and they left four men on base. 

In the second Castro hit a two run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the eighth Roemon Fields hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees will take on the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday afternoon in Bradenton, Florida.
