The New York Yankees lose their final game of the season

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2.  Luis Cessa started for the Yankees and he pitched ok and the bullpen was good.  Brett Gardner, Jacoby Ellsbury, Brian McCann and Didi Gregorius each had two hits.

Cessa pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with no walks and six strikeouts.  He lost his fourth game of the season.  Tommy Layne pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Blake Parker pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Adam Warren pitched a perfect inning.  Richard Bleier pitched a perfect inning.

Kevin Gausman pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Gausman won his ninth game of the season and Zach Britton pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out three.

Gardner had two hits, Ellsbury had two hits and Gary Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk.  McCann had two hits and an RBI, Gregorius had two hits and an RBI and Ronald Torreyes had a hit.  McCann hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.

Manny Machado had a hit, Mark Trumbo had a hit and Matt Wieters had two hits and four RBI.  Chris Davis had a hit, Jonathan Schoop had two hits and Hyun Soo Kim drew a walk.  J.J. Hardy had an RBI, Schoop hit a double and Wieters hit two homeruns.  The Orioles were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left one men on base.  Schoop and Stubbs were each caught stealing.

In the third Hardy hit a sac fly to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Wieters hit a two run homerun to give the Orioles a 3-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth McCann hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1.  Wieters hit a two run homerun in the sixth to extend the Orioles lead to 5-1.  In the eighth Gregorius hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-2 and that would be the final score.

The Yankees finish the season with 84 wins which was good enough for their 24th straight winning season.  It was a disappointing year but also a good year as they traded and had Alex Rodriguez retire and brought up a lot of their young talent and had success.  They will look to build off of that and be ready to go in the spring.  The Orioles will head to Toronto for the Wild Card game on Tuesday night.
