New York Yankees fail to sweep the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-5.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Luis Cessa out of the pen didn’t pitch well and Gleyber Torres and Clint Frazier led the offense with two hits each. 

Sabathia pitched six innings giving up seven hits and three runs with eight strikeouts.  Sabathia lost his second game of the season.  Cessa pitched an inning giving up five hits and five runs with a walk and David Hale pitched two innings giving up a hit. 

David Price won his third game of the season pitching 6 1/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out six.  Heath Hembree pitched 2/3 of an inning and struck out one, Matt Barnes pitched an inning giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and a strikeout and Brandon Workman pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and saved his second game of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Luke Voit had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Gary Sanchez had a hit and drew two walks.  Aaron Hicks had a hit and an RBI, Torres had two hits and an RBI and Gio Urshela had an RBI.  Frazier had two hits, Voit hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.   Hicks was caught stealing and Frazier committed an error and had an outfield assist. 

Andrew Benintendi had two hits and an RBI, J.D. Martinez had two hits and an RBI and Xander Bogaerts had two hits and an RBI.  Rafael Devers had a hit and an RBI, Christian Vasquez had a hit and drew a walk and Michael Chavis had two hits and an RBI.  Eduardo Nunez had two hits and an RBI and Brock Holt had a hit and an RBI.  Bogaerts hit a double and Chavis hit a triple.  Martinez and Bogaerts each hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Benintendi was caught stealing and Bogaerts committed an error. 

In the first Martinez hit a solo homerun to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the second Nunez hit an RBI single to push their lead to 2-0.  In the fourth Bogaerts hit a solo homerun making it a 3-0 game.  In the bottom of the fourth Voit hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1 and Urshela hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the seventh Nunez hit an RBI single, Holt hit an RBI single and Benintendi hit an RBI single to extend their lead to 6-2.  In the eighth Devers hit an RBI single and Chavis hit an RBI triple to make it 8-2.  In the bottom of the eighth a balk made it 8-3, Hicks hit an RBI ground out and Torres hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 8-5 but that would be the final score. 

The Yankees won two out of three in the series and will be off on Monday before heading to Toronto for a three-game series to begin on Tuesday night.

The New York Yankees defeat the Tampa Bay Rays


The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 6-2.  Chad Green started for the Yankees as the opener and did ok.  Luis Cessa was great out of the bullpen.  Gary Sanchez had two hits and two RBI to lead the offense. 

Green pitched one inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout.  Cessa pitched four innings giving up two hits and no runs and he struck out five, Zack Britton pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Danny Coulombe pitched two innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  David Sosebee pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Jeff Hendrix drew a walk and Aaron Judge had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Billy Burns had two hits and an RBI, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Sanchez had two hits and two RBI.  Greg Bird had a hit and an RBI, Gleyber Torres drew a walk and Stanton hit a double.  Sanchez hit two doubles and Bird hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Burns and Gardner each had a stolen base and Torres had two stolen bases.  Judge committed an error. 

In the first Michael Perez hit an RBI single to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Sanchez hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  In the third Judge hit an RBI single, Stanton hit an RBI double and Sanchez hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead.  In the fourth Burns hit an RBI single to push the Yankees lead to 5-1.  In the fifth Bird hit a solo homerun and the lead was 6-1.  In the ninth Mac James hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-2 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees will take on the Houston Astros on Wednesday afternoon in West Palm Beach.

New York Yankees lose another one in TAmpa


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 3-2.  Luis Cessa started for the Yankees and pitched well.  Miguel Andujar led the offense with two hits but the offense didn’t do much. 

Cessa pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with three strikeouts.  Cessa lost his second game of the season.  Jonathan Holder pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a  strikeout, A.J. Cole pitched an inning with two strikeouts and Delllin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Ryne Stanke pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two,

 Jaime Schultz pitched three innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and four strikeouts and Diego Castillo pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out one and won his second game of the season.  Jose Alvarado pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Sergio Romo pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and saved his 12th game of the season.  Jonny Venters pitched to one batter and got him out. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Aaron Judge had a hit and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and an RBI, Gleyber Torres drew a walk and Greg Bird had a hit.  Andujar had two hits, Neil Walker had a hit and an RBI and the Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Stanton had a stolen base. 

Kevin Kiermaier had a hit and two RBI, Jake Bauers had a hit and C.J. Cron had a hit and an RBI.  Joey Wendle had two hits, Daniel Robertson had a hit and Adam Moore had a hit.  Kiermaier and Cron each hit a homerun and the Rays were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Bauers had a stolen base and Duffy committed an error. 

In the second Walker hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Kiermaier hit a two-run homerun to give the Rays a 2-1 lead.  Cron hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 3-1.  In the eighth Stanton hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 3-2 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees lost two out of three in the series and will now head home to face the Kansas City Royals for four starting on Thursday night.

New York Yankees win game 2 of doubleheader to earn split in Baltimore


The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles in Game two of a doubleheader on Monday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 10-2.  Luis Cessa started for the Yankees and pitched very well.  Brett Gardner had four hits to lead the offense. 

Cessa won his first game of the season pitching six innings and giving up three hits and no runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Giovanny Gallegos pitched three innings giving up two hits and two runs with two walks. 

Yefry Ramirez lost his third game of the season pitching four innings giving up nine hits and four runs.  He walked two and struck out four.  Ryan Meisinger pitched three perfect innings with three strikeouts, Brad Brach pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and four runs with three being earned and he struck out one and Tanner Scott pitched an inning giving up four hits and two runs with three walks and a strikeout.  Paul Fry pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Gardner had four hits and three RBI, Aaron Judge had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Giancarlo Stanton had two hits, Greg Bird had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Miguel Andujar had a hit.  Clint Frazier had a hit and drew a walk, Austin Romine had two hits and three RBI and Neil Walker had two hits and drew a walk.  Gregorius, Stanton, Frazier, Walker, Gardner, Andujar and Romine each hit a double.  Gardner and Romine each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 7-15 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Gregorius was caught stealing. 

Tim Beckham had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Jonathan Schoop had a hit and Manny Machado drew a walk.  Mark Trumbo had a hit, Chris Davis had a hit and drew a walk and Jace Peterson drew a walk.  Joey Rickard had a hit and drew a walk, Davis hit a double and Beckham hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Peterson was caught stealing and Schoop committed an error and Valencia had an outfield assist. 

In the first Gregorius hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Gardner hit a two-run homerun to push the Yankees lead to 3-0.  In the fifth Bird hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0.  In the eighth Romine hit a two-run homerun to make it 6-0 and Gardner hit an RBI double making it 7-0.  An error pushed the lead to 8-0.  In the bottom of the eighth Becham hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 8-2.  In the ninth Romine hit an RBI double and Judge hit an RBI single making it 10-2 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game three of four on Tuesday night.

New York Yankees open up grapefruit league by defeating the Detroit Tigeres


The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers on Friday at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida.  The final score was 3-1 Yankees.  Luis Cessa started the game for the Yankees and he pitched well as did the guys out of the bullpen.  Tyler Wade and Jorge Saez each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Cessa pitched two innings giving up a run on two hits with no walks and two strikeouts.  Ben Heller pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out three, David Hale picked up the win pitching two innings and giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.  Brady Lail pitched an inning giving up a hit, Cale Coshow pitched a scoreless innings and gave up a walk and Gio Gallegos pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two and picked up the save. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Saez had two hits and two RBI and Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk.  Billy McKinney drew a walk, Aaron Hicks drew a walk and Wade had two hits.  Austin Romine had a hit and drew a walk, Kyle Higashioka drew a walk and Clint Frazier drew a walk.  Jake Cave had a hit and an RBI, Romine and Wade each hit a double and the Yankees were 1-11 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Frazier and Cave each had a stolen base and Wade committed an error. 

In the first inning Chad Huffman delivered an RBI single for the Tigers to give them a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Cave had an RBI ground out and Saez delivered a two-run single to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead and that would be the final score.

New York Yankees double up the New York Mets


The New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-2.  Luis Cessa started for the Yankees and he pitched ok and the bullpen was great.  Aaron Hicks and Gary Sanchez each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Cessa pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Chad Green pitched 2 2/3 innings with a walk and four strikeouts, David Robertson earned his sixth win of the season pitching an inning and giving up a walk with three strikeouts and Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and recorded his seventh save of the season. 

Rafael Montero pitched six innings giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Hansel Robles lost his fourth game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts, Jerry Blevins pitched to one batter and retired him and Erik Goeddel pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Hicks had two hits and an RBI and Aaron Judge had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius drew a walk, Sanchez had two hits and two RBI and Todd Frazier had a hit.  Ronald Torreyes had a hit, Judge, Hicks and Sanchez each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores drew a walk, Dominic Smith had a hit and Amed Rosario had a hit.  Juan Lagares had a hit, Granderson and Cespedes each hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Rosario had a stolen base and Lagares was caught stealing. 

In the third Granderson hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  Cespedes hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0.  In the fourth Sanchez hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the sixth Judge hit a homerun to tie the game at two.  In the eighth Hicks hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead and Sanchez hit a solo homerun to make it 4-2 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of two at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night.  They will then shift to Citi Field for two more games there.

New York Yankees get blown out by the Texas Rangers


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Texas Rangers on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-1.  Luis Cessa started for the Yankees and he pitched ok, Tyler Clippard had another rough outing out of the bullpen.  The Yankees offense only managed five hits. 

Cessa took his second loss of the season pitching five innings and giving up three hits and three runs.  He walked two and struck out eight.  Jonathan Holder pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts, Tyler Webb pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with a strikeout and Clippard pitched an inning giving up three hits and four runs with two walks and a strikeout. 

Austin Bibens-Dirkx pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts.  He won his third game of the season.  Alex Claudio pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Keone Kela pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Mason Williams had a hit and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had a hit and an RBI and Starlin Castro had a hit.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Austin Romine had a hit and Judge hit a homerun.   The Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Williams had two stolen bases. 

Delino DeShields had a hit and drew a walk, Shin-Soo Choo had a hit and two RBI and Elvis Andrus had two hits and two RBI.  Adrian Beltre had two hits and drew a walk, Carlos Gomez had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Robinson Chirinos had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Beltre, Choo and Andrus each hit a double and Gomez and Chirinos each hit a homerun.  The Rangers were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  DeShields and Gomez each had a stolen base. 

In the first Andrus hit an RBI single to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Gomez hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 3-0.  Judge hit a solo homerun in the sixth to cut the lead to 3-1.  Chirinos hit a solo homerun in the seventh to push the lead to 4-1.  In the ninth a wild pitch made it 5-1 and Choo hit a two-run double and Andrus an RBI double to give the Rangers a 8-1 lead which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game on Sunday afternoon.

New York Yankees are swept in Oakland


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Oakland Athletics on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Oakland County Coliseum in Oakland, California and the final score was 4-3.  Luis Cessa started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch great, the bullpen was good.  Brett Gardner and Didi Gregorius each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Cessa pitched four innings and gave up five hits and four runs.  He walked one and struck out four and took his first loss of the season.  Chad Green pitched two innings and gave up two hits and he struck out two, Tyler Clippard pitched an inning with a walk and Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Jharel Cotton pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  He won his fourth game of the season.  Daniel Coulombe pitched to two batters and retired them both, one of them was a strikeout, Ryan Madson pitched a perfect inning and Sean Doolittle saved his third game of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Gardner had two hits, Aaron Judge had a hit and an RBI and Matt Holliday had a hit and an RBI.  Gregorius had two hits and an RBI, Chris Carter drew a walk and Gardner hit a double and Holliday and Gregorius each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base and Headley was caught stealing. 

Matt Joyce had two hits and drew a walk, Chad Pinder had a hit and two RBI and Jed Lowrie drew a walk.  Khris Davis had two hits and two RBI, Jaycob Brugman had a hit and Josh Phegley had a hit.  Joyce, Pinder and Davis each hit a double and Davis hit a homerun.  The Athletics were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Brugman was caught stealing, Pinder committed an error. 

In the second Holliday hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Judge hit an RBI single to push their lead to 2-0.  In the third PInder hit a two-run double to tie the game at two.  Davis hit a two-run homerun and it was 4-2 Athletics.  In the fourth Gregorius hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-3 and that would be the final score. 
The Yankees were swept all four games in Oakland and have lost six games in a row.  They will have the day off Monday before opening a three game set at home against the Anaheim

The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox




The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday afternoon.  The game took place at Jet Blue Park in Fort Myers, Florida and the final score was 5-4.   Luis Cessa started for the Yankees and he pitched just ok.  Chance Adams made his first appearance of the spring and pitched well and Justus Sheffield looked ok.  Greg Bird had two hits and three RBI to lead the offense. 

Cessa pitched two innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Matt Wotherspoon pitched an inning with a walk, Adams pitched two innings giving up a hit with a walk and a strikeout and Sheffield pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout.  He got the win.  Jason Gurka pitched 1/3 of an inning striking out one and Yefrey Ramirez pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts. 

Ronald Torreyes had a hit, Pete Kozma had a hit and Rob Refsnyder had a hit.  Zach Zehner had a hit and an RBI, Bird had two hits and three RBI and Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk.  Billy McKinney drew a walk, Kyle Higashioka had two hits and Kellin Deglan had a hit and drew a walk.  Mark Payton had a hit.  Gleyber Torres had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. 

In the first Bird hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second Sandoval hit an RBI double to make it 2-1.  Deven Marrero hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  In the sixth Bird hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  Sam Travis homered in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at three.  In the seventh Zehner hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead and then Torres hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-3.  In the bottom of the eighth Matt Dominguez hit an RBI double to make it 5-4 but that would be the final score.

The New York Yankees lose their final game of the season



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2.  Luis Cessa started for the Yankees and he pitched ok and the bullpen was good.  Brett Gardner, Jacoby Ellsbury, Brian McCann and Didi Gregorius each had two hits. 

Cessa pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with no walks and six strikeouts.  He lost his fourth game of the season.  Tommy Layne pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Blake Parker pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Adam Warren pitched a perfect inning.  Richard Bleier pitched a perfect inning. 

Kevin Gausman pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Gausman won his ninth game of the season and Zach Britton pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out three. 

Gardner had two hits, Ellsbury had two hits and Gary Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk.  McCann had two hits and an RBI, Gregorius had two hits and an RBI and Ronald Torreyes had a hit.  McCann hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Manny Machado had a hit, Mark Trumbo had a hit and Matt Wieters had two hits and four RBI.  Chris Davis had a hit, Jonathan Schoop had two hits and Hyun Soo Kim drew a walk.  J.J. Hardy had an RBI, Schoop hit a double and Wieters hit two homeruns.  The Orioles were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left one men on base.  Schoop and Stubbs were each caught stealing. 

In the third Hardy hit a sac fly to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Wieters hit a two run homerun to give the Orioles a 3-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth McCann hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1.  Wieters hit a two run homerun in the sixth to extend the Orioles lead to 5-1.  In the eighth Gregorius hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-2 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees finish the season with 84 wins which was good enough for their 24th straight winning season.  It was a disappointing year but also a good year as they traded and had Alex Rodriguez retire and brought up a lot of their young talent and had success.  They will look to build off of that and be ready to go in the spring.  The Orioles will head to Toronto for the Wild Card game on Tuesday night.

New York Yankees beat the Bosox as the kids play long ball



The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-4.  Luis Cessa started for the Yankees and he pitched well and the bullpen was pretty good.  Tyler Austin and Didi Gregorius each had three hits. 

Cessa pitched six innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Tommy Layne pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout, Blake Parker won his first game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he walked a batter and Richard Bleier pitched to two batters and retired them both, one by strikeout.  Tyler Clippard earned his third save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. 

David Price lost his ninth game of the season and he pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up 12 hits and six runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Brad Ziegler pitched a perfect inning and Robbie Ross Jr. pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI and Gary Sanchez had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Gregorius had three hits and an RBI and Austin Romine had two hits.  Austin had three hits and two RBI, Sanchez, Gregorius and Austin each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Cessa committed an error. 

In the first Sanchez hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fifth Ellsbury hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the sixth Pedroia hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1 and Betts hit an RBI ground out to make it a 3-2 game.  Gregorius hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth to push the Yankees lead to 4-2.  In the seventh Hill hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-3.  Pedroia hit an RBI single to tie the game at four.  In the bottom of the seventh Austin hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 6-4 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Wednesday night.  The Yankees will try to keep their faint playoff hopes alive and clinch their 24th straight winning season.

The New York Yankees are shutout as they fail to sweep the Tampa Bay Rays



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday night.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 2-0.  Luis Cessa started for the Yankees and he pitched well and Luis Severino pitched well again out of the pen.  Billy Butler, Didi Gregorius and Aaron Hicks each had two hits but no one had an extra base hit. 

Cessa pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  He lost his third game of the season.  Severino pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out three. 

Blake Snell won his sixth game of the season pitching five innings and giving up five hits and no runs with three walks and six strikeouts.  Chase Whitley pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up two hits and no runs with no walks and three strikeouts and Alex Colome pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and recorded his 35th save of the season. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and Gary Sanchez drew two walks.  Butler had two hits, Mark Teixeria drew a walk and Gregorius had two hits.  Hicks had two hits and the Yankees were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Sanchez had a pickoff. 

Logan Forsythe had a hit, Kevin Kiermaier had three hits and Brad Miller had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Corey Dickerson had a hit and an RBI, Curt Casali had a hit and Richie Shaffer drew a walk.  Casali hit a double, Dickerson hit a homerun and the Rays were 1-4 with four men left on base.  Kiermaier was caught stealing and Casali was picked off.  Forsythe committed an error and Casali had a passed ball. 

In the first Miller hit an RBI single to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Dickerson hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0.  2-0 would be the final score. 

The Yankees won two out of three and will head to Toronto to start a four game series on Friday night.  It will be the last road series of the year as the Yankees will then come back home for their final six games of the season.

The New York Yankees lose second straight in Boston



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 7-4.  Luis Cessa started for the Yankees and pitched ok, the bullpen wasn't great.  Gary Sanchez had a couple of RBI and Mason Williams had a couple of hits. 

Cessa lost his second game of the season pitching five innings and giving up six hits and three runs with a strikeout.  James Pazos gave up a hit and a run, Jonathan Holder pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Chasen Shreve pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run.  Kirby Yates pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and Ben Heller pitched a perfect inning. 

Clay Buchholz won his seventh game of the season pitching six innings and giving up seven hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Robbie Ross Jr. pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Brad Ziegler pitched to one batter and struck him out and Koji Uehara pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Fernando Abad pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and Craig Kimbrel pitched to two batters and struck them both out and recorded his 26th save of the season. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk and Sanchez had a hit and two RBI.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and Brian McCann had a hit.  Mark Teixeira had a hit and drew a walk, Williams had two hits and Billy Butler had a hit and two RBI.  Headley, Sanchez, McCann and Gardner each hit a double.  Butler hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Gardner and Ellsbury each had an outfield assist. 

Dustin Pedroia had two hits, Xander Bogaerts had a h it and David Ortiz had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Mookie Betts had two hits, Hanley Ramirez had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Travis Shaw had a hit and an RBI.  Sandy Leon had a hit and an RBI, Jackie Bradley Jr.  had a hit and an RBI and Shaw, Ortiz, Leon and Bogaerts each hit a double.  Ramirez and Bradley Jr. each hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left four  men on base.  Betts had a stolen base. 

In the first Ortiz hit an RBI single to make it 1-0.  Ramirez hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.  In the fourth Ramirez hit a solo homerun to push the Red Sox lead to 3-0.  In the fifth Sanchez hit a two run double to cut the lead to 3-2.  Shaw hit a sac fly in the sixth to make it a 4-2 game.  Leon hit an RBI double and the lead was 5-2 still in the sixth.  In the seventh Bradley Jr. hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 6-2.  Betts hit into a double play and a run scored to make it 7-2 in the seventh.  Butler hit a two run homerun in the ninth to cut the lead to 7-4 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game three of four on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Yankees seven game win streak comes to an end



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-2.  Luis Cessa pitched ok and the bullpen was good.  Brett Gardner had three hits to lead the offense. 

Cessa pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with no walks and five strikeouts.  He lost his first game of the season.  Luis Severino pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with three strikeouts, Tommy Layne gave up two hits and Blake Parker pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Matt Andriese pitched five innings giving up six hits and a run with no walks and two strikeouts.  He won his seventh game of the season.  Chase Whitley pitched two innings giving up a hit and an unearned run.  He walked one and struck out two, Brad Boxberger pitched an inning with a strikeout and Alex Colome pitched an inning with two strikeouts and he earned his 32nd save of the season. 

Gardner had three hits and an RBI, Gary Sanchez had a hit and Brian McCann had a hit.  Chase Headley had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had a hit and Gardner hit a double.  Headley hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base and Torreyes was caught stealing.  Sanchez had a passed ball. 

Logan Forsythe had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Brad Miller had a hit and an RBI and Nick Franklin had three hits.  Corey Dickerson had three hits and two RBI, Steven Souza Jr. had a hit and Dickerson hit a double.  Dickerson, Forsythe and Miller each hit a homerun.  The Rays were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Souza Jr. had a stolen base and Longoria committed an error. 

In the second Dickerson hit a two run homerun to give the Rays a 2-0 lead.  In the fifth Headley hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  Forsythe hit a solo homerun in the sixth to give the Rays a 3-1 lead.  Miller hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 4-1 still in the sixth.  In the seventh Gardner hit an RBI single to make it 4-2.  4-2 would be the final score. 

The Yankees seven game win streak came to an end and they will remain at home to take on the Dodgers beginning on Monday night.

Yankees hold on to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays in thrilling fashion



The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-6.  Luis Cessa started for the Yankees and pitched well and the bullpen was up and down but held on to get the win.  Chase Headley and Tyler Austin each had two RBI to lead the offense. 

Cessa pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  James Pazos gave up a hit to the only batter that he faced, Adam Warren pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts and Tommy Layne gave up a run and a walk without recording an out.  Ben Heller gave up a hit and a walk, Chasen Shreve pitched to one batter and struck him out and Dellin Betances pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with three walks and a strikeout.  Blake Parker earned his first save of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout. 

Aaron Sanchez pitched seven innings giving up five hits and three runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Jason Grilli pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and four runs with two walks and a strikeout and he lost his fifth game of the season.  Bo Schultz pitched to one batter and struck him out. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew two walks, Gary Sanchez had a hit and Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI.  Starlin Castro had a hit and an RBI, , Brian McCann had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Headley had a hit and two RBI.  Aaron Judge had a hit, Austin had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Gregorius hit a triple.  Mccann, Austin and Headley each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Sanchez had a passed ball. 

Jose Bautista had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Josh Donaldson drew a walk and Edwin Encarnacion had two hits and two RBI.  Russell Martin had a hit and drew a walk, Troy Tulowitzki had a hit and Dioner Navarro drew a walk.  Michael Saunders had a hit, Melvin Upton Jr. had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Kevin Pillar had three hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Justin Smoak drew a walk, Devin ravis had a hit and Pillar hit a double.  Encarnacion hit a homerun and the Blue Jays were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Travis committed an error and Bautista had an outfield assist. 

In the first Encarnacion hit a solo homerun to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth McCann hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the first Bautista hit an RBI single to give the Jays a 2-1 lead.  Austin hit a two run homerun in the seventh and the Yankees had a 3-2 lead.  In the eighth Pillar hit a two run double to give the Blue Jays back the lead at 4-3.  Gregorius hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the eighth to tie the score at four.  Castro hit a sac fly and Headley hit a two run homerun and it was 7-4 Yankees still in the eighth.  In the ninth the Blue Jays cut the score to 7-6 but that was how the game ended.  Encarnacion hit an RBI single and Upton Jr. hit an RBI single. 

The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Wednesday night with the Yankees looking to sweep.

The New York Yankees defeat the Kansas City Royals again in extra innings



The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Kaufmann Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri and the final score was 5-4 in 13 innings.  Luis Cessa started for the Yankees and he pitched ok and the bullpen was great.  Starlin Castro had three hits and a couple of RBI and Brett Gardner and Chase Headley each had two hits. 

Cessa pitched six innings giving up six hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out two.  Chasen Shreve pitched two innings walking one and striking out three, Tommy Layne pitched to one batter and retired him and Adam Warren pitched to two batters retiring them both.  Blake Parker pitched two innings walking one and striking out one, Ben Heller earned his first win pitching a perfect inning and Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a walk and he earned his seventh save of the season. 

Ian Kennedy pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Scott Alexander pitched 1 1/3  innings giving up a hit, Peter Moylan didn't record an out and Brian Flynn pitched to one batter and retired him.  Kelvin Herrera pitched a perfect inning, Brooks Pounders pitched two perfect innings striking out two and Chris Young pitched an inning giving up four hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout.   Young lost his ninth game of the season and Matt Strahm pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout. 

Gardner had two hits, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Gary Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk.  Mark Teixeira had a hit, Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI and Castro had three hits and two RBI.  Brian McCann had an RBI, Headley had two hits and drew a walk and Aaron Hicks drew a walk.  Sanchez hit a double, Castro hit a double and Castro hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Headley had a stolen base and Headley committed an error. 

Jarrod Dyson drew a walk, Cheslor Cuthbert had a hit and drew a walk and Eric Hosmer had a hit and an RBI.  Kendrys Morales had a hit and two RBI, Salvador Perez had two hits and Alex Gordon drew a walk.  Alcides Escobar had a hit and an RBI, Raul Mondesi Jr. drew a walk and Escobar hit a double.  Morales and Hosmer each hit a homerun and the Royals were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Dyson had a stolen base and Burns had two stolen bases.  Mondesi was caught stealing and Cuthbert and Orlando each committed an error. 

In the first Morales hit a two run homerun to give the Royals a 2-0 lead.  In the second Escobar hit an RBI double to push the lead to 3-0 and in the third Hosmer hit a solo homerun extending the Royals lead to 4-0.  In the sixth Gregorius hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 4-1.  Castro hit a two run homerun still in the sixth and the lead was cut to 4-3.  In the seventh Ellsbury hit a sac fly to tie the game at four.  In the 13th McCann hit a sac fly to make it 5-4 Yankees and that would be the final score of the game. 

The Yankees won two out of three in the series and will be off on Thursday before beginning an important series in Baltimore on Friday night.  The Yankees trail the Orioles by two games in the loss column for the second wild card heading into this series.

New York Yankees rally to beat the Detroit Tigers



The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers on Monday night.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 3-2.  Luis Cessa started for the Yankees and continued his impressive spring by pitching well.  The bullpen except for Nick Goody pitched well.  Mark Teixeira hit his first homerun of the spring and Dustin Ackley had two RBI. 

Cessa pitched three innings giving up a hit and a walk with four strikeouts.  Johnny Barbato pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Goody pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with three strikeouts.  Chasen Shreve pitched a perfect inning and Diego Moreno who was optioned to minor league camp after the game pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out one.  

Brett Gardner had a hit, Juan Silva had a hit and Carlos Corporan had a hit.  Teixeira had a hit and an RBI, Ackley had a hit and two RBI and Alex Rodriguez had a hit.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Pete Kozma had a hit and Aaron Hicks drew a walk.  Ackley hit a double and Teixeira hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the sixth Ian Kinsler hit a solo homerun to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead, Justin Upton also hit a solo homerun to make it 2-0 Tigers.  In the seventh Teixeira hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  Ackley hit a two run double in the eighth to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead and that would be the final score.

The Yankees improved their spring record to 11-13 and they will play a split squad on Tuesday.  They will play the Philadelphia Phillies in Clearwater and the Pittsburgh Pirates at home in Tampa.  Masahiro Tanaka will make his final spring start which could determine if he will be the Opening Day starter next Monday at home against the Houston Astros.  CC Sabathia will also make his final spring start.
