New York Yankees rally to salvage final game in Baltimore


The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 7-3.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The Yankees bullpen was really good and Ronald Torreyes had three hits and Aaron Judge two to lead the offense. 

Sabathia pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out three.  Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and he earned his first win of the season and Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Wade Miley started for the Orioles and pitched five innings giving up a hit and no runs.  He walked seven and struck out five.  Tyler Wilson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with two strikeouts, Mychal Givens pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with a walk and Donnie Hart pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one.  Darren O’Day pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and four runs with three walks and he took his first loss of the season.  Vidal Nuno pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Matt Holliday drew five walks.  Chris Carter had a hit and drew two walks, Starlin Castro had a hit and an RBI and Chase Headley drew a walk.  Judge had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Austin Romine had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Torreyes had three hits and two RBI.  Torreyes hit a triple, Judge hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base and Holliday was picked off.  Romine had a passed ball. 

Adam Jones had a hit, Manny Machado drew a walk and Mark Trumbo had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Chris Davis had two hits, Trey Mancini had an RBI and Jonathan Schoop drew a walk.  J.J. Hardy had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and the Orioles were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Miley and Schoop each committed an error and Miley had a pickoff.   

In the second Mancini hit an RBI ground out to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  Hardy hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  In the bottom of the fifth Trumbo hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the sixth Torreyes hit a two-run triple to cut the lead to 3-2.  Judge hit a solo homerun in the eighth to tie the game at three.  In the ninth Castro hit an RBI single, Judge hit an RBI ground out and Romine hit a sac fly and a run scored on an error to make it 7-3.  7-3 would be the final score. 

The Yankees were able to salvage the final game of the series and finish the road trip at 2-4.  They will be home on Monday afternoon for the home opener against the Tampa Bay Rays.
