New York Yankees defeat King Felix and the Seattle Mariners

The New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night.  The game took place at

Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington and the final score was 4-1.  Luis Severino started for the

Yankees and he pitched great.  Didi Gregorius and Chase Headley each had two hits to lead the

offense. 

Severino pitched seven innings giving up eight hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out six and won his sixth game of the season.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Felix Hernandez lost his fourth game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up three hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out nine.  James Pazos pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run, Tony Zych pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Max Povse pitched an inning giving up two hits and two unearned runs. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Gary Sanchez drew a walk and Aaron Judge had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Gregorius had two hits and drew a walk, Todd Frazier had a hit and Headley had two hits.  Gregorius hit a double and Gardner hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Severino committed an error. 

Jean Segura had a hit, Ben Gamel had a hit and Robinson Cano had three hits and an RBI.  Nelson Cruz had a hit, Kyle Seager had a hit and Danny Valencia had two hits.  Mitch Haniger had a hit, Mike Zunino drew two walks and Gamel, Seager and Cano each hit a double.  The Mariners were 2-14 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Segura and Cano each committed an error. 

In the sixth Gardner hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the eighth Judge hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  In the ninth Headley reached on a throwing error and two runs scored to extend the lead to 4-0.  In the bottom of the ninth Cano hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 4-1 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of four on Friday night.
