New York Yankees win on a walk-off to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays


The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-5.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he struggled, the bullpen pitched well.  Chase Headley led the offense with three hits and Brett Gardner hit a walk-off homerun. 

Sabathia pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs and a walk and three strikeouts.  Chad Green pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with two strikeouts, Tommy Khanle pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out two.  Adam Warren pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Aroldis Chapman pitched two perfect innings with four strikeouts and earned his third win of the season. 

Chris Archer six innings giving up seven hits and three runs with two walks and ten strikeouts.  Adam Kolarek pitched to one batter and retired him, Sergio Romo pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Dan Jennings pitched giving up two hits and a run.  Brad Boxberger pitched an inning giving up a hit, Alex Colome pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run and Andrew Kittredge pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and he lost his first game of the season. 

Gardner had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, C. Frazier had a hit and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Gary Sanchez had two hits and two RBI, Didi Gregorius had two hits and Headley had three hits and drew a walk.  Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Matt Holliday had an RBI and T. Frazier had two hits and an RBI.  Ellsbury hit a double and Gardner hit a triple.  Sanchez and Gardner each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. 

Steven Souza Jr. had a hit and drew a walk, Brad Miller had a hit and two RBI and Evan Longoria had two hits and an RBI.  Corey Dickerson had two hits and an RBI, Tim Beckham had two hits and Adeiny Hechavarria had two hits.  Peter Bourjos had a hit and an RBI, Hechavarria, Bourjos and Miller each hit a double.  Longoria and Dickerson each hit a homerun and the Rays were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the second Ellsbury hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  T. Frazier hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  In the third Sanchez hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the fourth Longoria hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the fifth Bourjos hit an RBI double to cut it to 3-2 and Miller hit a two-run double to give the Rays the 4-3 lead.  In the sixth Dickerson hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 5-3.  In the eighth Holliday hit into an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 5-4.  In the ninth Sanchez hit an RBI single to tie the game at five.  In the 11th Gardner hit a solo homerun to walk it off and give the Yankees a 6-5 victory. 

The two teams will play game two of four on Friday night.
