The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Houston Astros on Friday night.
The game took place at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas and the final
score was 2-1. Masahiro Tanaka started
for the Yankees and pitched well. The
Yankees offense only managed five hits.
Tanaka pitched six innings giving
up four hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts. Tanaka took the tough loss. Chad Green pitched two innings giving up two
hits and he struck out two.
Dallas Keuchel won the game
pitching seven innings and giving up four hits and no runs. He walked one and struck out ten. Chris Devenski pitched giving up a walk and
Ken Giles picked up the save pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run
with a walk and four strikeouts.
Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a
walk, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk and Gary Sanchez drew a walk. Starlin Castro had a hit, Greg Bird had two
hits and an RBI and Bird hit a homerun.
The Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men
on base.
George Springer drew a walk, Jose
Altuve had three hits and Carlos Correa had a hit and an RBI. Yuli Gurriel had a hit and an RBI, Alex
Bregman had a hit and the Astros were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and
left five men on base. Altuve had a
stolen base and committed an error.
Marwin Gonzalez had an outfield assist.
In the fourth Correa hit an RBI
single to give the Astros a 1-0 lead.
Gurriel hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0. In the ninth Bird hit a solo homerun to cut
the lead to 2-1 and that would be the final score. The two teams will play game two of the ALCS
on Saturday afternoon.
