New York Yankees complete the sweep of the Seattle Mariners


The New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he didn’t have his best stuff but he hung in there and got the win.  The bullpen was great and Clint Frazier, Didi Gregorius and Gleyber Torres each had two hits. 

Severino pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and three runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Severino earned his 11th win of the season.  David Robertson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one, Dellin Betances pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts and Aroldis Chapman earned his 22nd save of the season pitching an inning with a walk and a strikeout. 

James Paxton pitched five innings giving up seven hits and four runs with three walks and nine strikeouts and he lost his second game of the season.  Chasen Bradford pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Nick Rumbelow pitched a perfect inning. 

Frazier had two hits, Aaron Judge had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Gregorius had two hits.  Torres had two hits, Miguel Andujar had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Greg Bird drew a walk.  Neil Walker drew a walk, Torres hit a double and Judge and Andujar each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Dee Gordon had a hit, Nelson Cruz had two hits and drew a walk and Kyle Seager had two hits and two RBI.  Ryan Healy had a hit and drew a walk, Ben Gamel had a hit and an RBI and Mike Zunino had a hit and drew a walk.  Andrew Romine had a hit, Cruz and Zunino each hit a double and Seager hit a homerun.  The Mariners were 1-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the first Judge hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  Andujar hit a two-run homerun and it was 4-0.  In the second Seager hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 4-2.  In the sixth Gamel hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-3 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees were able to complete the three-game sweep and will now head to Tampa to take on the Rays in a three-game weekend series.
