New York Mets blow a big lead to the Miami Marlins


The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins on Saturday.  The game took place at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter, Florida and the final score was 11-6.  Jason Vargas started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch very well.  Robinson Cano had three hits and Michael Conforto had two hits and three RBI to lead the offense. 

Vargas pitched four innings giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Robert Gsellman pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run, Seth Lugo pitched an inning giving up three hits and four runs with a strikeout and Daniel Zamora pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Tim Peterson pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs. 

Jeff McNeil had ah it and an RBI, Rajai Davis had a hit and Peter Alonso had a hit and an RBI.  Cano had three hits, Conforto had two hits and three RBI and J.D. Davis had a hit.  Amed Rosario had a hit and drew a walk, Juan Lagares had a hit and Cano and McNeil each hit a double.  Conforto hit a homerun and the Mets were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Rosario had a stolen base and Lugo committed an error. 

In the first Conforto hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the third Conforto hit an RBI single to push the lead to 3-0.  In the fourth McNeil hit an RBI double and Alonso hit an RBI single and a wild pitch made it a 6-0 game.  In the bottom of the fifth Deven Marrero hit an RBI double, Curtis Granderson hit a two-run double, Miguel Rojas hit an RBI double and Starlin Castro hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 6-5.  In the sixth Isaac Galloway bunted and a run scored on a throwing error to tie the game at six.  Pedro Alvarez hit a three-run homerun to give the Marlins a 9-6 lead.  In the eighth Alvarez hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 11-6 and that would be the final score. 
The Mets spring record fell to 9-12 and they will take on the Washington Nationals on Sunday.
