New York Mets get shutout in San Diego


The New York Mets were defeated by the San Diego Padres on Monday night.  The game took place at Petco Park in San Diego, California and the final score was 4-0.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched well, the Mets offense couldn’t get anything going. 

deGrom pitched seven innings giving up four hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out seven and took his fourth loss of the season.  Justin Wilson pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout. 

Chris Paddack pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up four hits and no runs with a walk and 11 strikeouts.  He earned his third win of the season.  Craig Stammen pitched 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout. 

Jeff McNeil had two hits, Robinson Cano drew a walk and Todd Frazier had a hit.  DeGrom had a hit and the Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

Greg Garcia had a hit, Manuel Margot had a hit and Manny Machado had a hit.  Eric Hosmer had two hits and two RBI, Hunter Renfroe had two hits and an RBI and Ty France had an RBI.  Wil Myers drew a walk, Renfroe and Hosmer each hit a double and Renfroe hit a homerun.  The Padres were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the fifth Renfroe hit a solo homerun giving the Padres a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh France hit a sac fly to make it 2-0.  In the eighth Hosmer hit a two-run double to push the lead to 4-0 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two on Tuesday night.
