The New York Mets were doubled up by the Miami Marlins


The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins on Friday night.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 8-4.  Jason Vargas started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch well.  The offense only managed five hits and no player had more than a hit. 

Vargas pitched five innings giving up five hits and six runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Vargas lost his fifth game of the season.  Robert Gsellman pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run, Chris Mazza pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts and Luis Avilan pitched to one batter and got him out. 

Caleb Smith pitched six innings giving up three hits and two runs with five walks and six strikeouts.  Smith won his fifth game of the season.  Jarlin Garcia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Elieser Hernandez pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Adam Conley pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two strikeouts. 

Jeff McNeil had a hit, J.D. Davis drew two walks and Pete Alonso drew a walk.  Wilson Ramos had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Robinson Cano had a hit and Todd Frazier had a hit and two RBI.  Michael Conforto drew a walk, Amed Rosario had a hit and Frazier hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  McNeil had a stolen base. 

Miguel Rojas had an RBI, Curtis Granderson had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Garrett Cooper had two hits and two RBI.  Brian Anderson had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Starlin Castro had a hit and an RBI and Jorge Alfaro had a hit.  JT Riddle had a hit, Smith had a hit and Cooper hit a double.  Castro hit a triple and Granderson, Cooper and Anderson each hit a homerun and the Marlins were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. 

In the third Ramos hit a two-run single to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the third Rojas hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 2-1.  Granderson hit a two-run homerun to give the Marlins a 3-2 lead.  Cooper hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 4-2.  In the sixth Cooper hit an RBI double, Anderson hit a two-run homerun and the lead was 7-2.  In the bottom of the eighth Castro hit an RBI triple to extend the lead to 8-2.  In the ninth Frazier hit a two-run homerun to make it 8-4.
