The New York Yankees sweep the Philadelphia Phillies

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon.  The final score was 6-5 and the game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Nestor Cortes Jr. started for the Yankees, and he pitched well, the Yankees bullpen held the lead and the offense was led by DJ LeMahieu who had all six RBI. 

Cortes Jr. pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Cortes won his fifth game of the season.  Luke Weaver pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run, Tommy Khanle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Mark Leiter Jr. pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with two strikeouts.  Clay Holmes picked up his 22nd save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit. 

Cristopher Sanchez started for the Phillies, and he pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and six runs.  He walked one and struck out seven and took his seventh loss of the season.  Jose Ruiz pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Yunior Marte pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one.  Tanner Banks pitched a perfect inning and Carlos Estevez pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Juan Soto had a hit, Giancarlo Stanton had two hits and Jazz Chisholm had a hit.  Anthony Volpe had a hit; Alex Verdugo had a hit and LeMahieu had two hits and six RBI.  Carlos Narvaez had a hit, LeMahieu hit a double and a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Kyle Schwarber had a hit and drew two walks; Austin Hays had a hit and Alec Bohm had two hits and an RBI.  Nick Castellanos had two hits and three RBI, Weston Wilson had a hit and an RBI and Bryson Stott had two hits.  Brandon Marsh drew a walk, Hays and Bohm each hit a double and Bohm hit a triple.  Wilson hit a homerun and the Phillies were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the top of the second LeMahieu hit a grand slam giving the Yankees a 4-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth Bohm hit an RBI groundout cutting the lead to 4-1.  Castellanos hit an RBI single, and it was 4-2.  In the bottom of the fifth Wilson hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 4-3.  In the top of the sixth LeMahieu hit a two-run double giving the Yankees a 6-3 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth Castellanos hit an RBI groundout and it was 6-4 Yankees.  In the bottom of the eighth Castellanos hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 6-5 but that was the final score.  The Yankees swept the three-game series and will be off on Thursday.  They will begin a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night and the start of a nine game homestand.

New York Yankees lose a close one to the Angels

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Anaheim Angels on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California and the final score was 4-3.  Nestor Cortes Jr. started for the Yankees, and he pitched well and the bullpen pitched well, Luke Weaver had a little hiccup.  The offense was led by Anthony Volpe and Juan Soto who each had two hits. 

Cortes Jr. pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with no walks and four strikeouts.  Tommy Khanle pitched to two batters and retired them both, Weaver pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with three strikeouts and he took his first loss of the season.  Clay Holmes blew his third save of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up two hits. 

Griffin Canning started for the Angels, and he pitched five innings giving up nine this and three runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Hunter Strickland pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Luis Garcia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Matt Moore pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and earned his first win of the season.  Carlos Estevez pitched a perfect inning and earned his eighth save of the season. 

Volpe had two hits, Soto had two hits and two RBI and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Alex Verdugo had a hit, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew a walk.  Austin Wells had a hit and an RBI, DJ LeMahieu drew a walk.  Wells hit a double and Soto hit a homerun, the Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Cortes had a pickoff. 

Luis Rengifo had three hits, Taylor Ward had a hit and two RBI and Kevin Pillar had three hits and two RBI.  Zach Neto had a hit, Willie Calhoun had a hit and Ward hit a double and Pillar hit a homerun.  The Angels were 3-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Neto was picked off and Adell had an outfield assist. 

In the first Soto hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Pillar hit a two-run homerun giving the Angels a 2-1 lead.  In the fourth Soto hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  In the fifth Wells hit an RBI double giving the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the eighth Ward hit a two-run double giving the Angels a 4-3 lead and they would keep that lead and win the game.  The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

New York Yankees slug the way to victory over the Philadelphia Phillies

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-1.  Nestor Cortes started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The bullpen pitched very well and Gleyber Torres led the offense with a couple of hits and three walks. 

Cortes pitched five innings giving up seven hits and a run with no walks and three strikeouts.  Cortes won his first game of the season.  Ian Hamilton pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and he struck out two, Jonathan Loaisiga pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings and Clay Holmes pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Taijuan Walker started for the Phillies and he pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with three walks and five strikeouts.  Walker took his first loss of the season.  Yunior Marte pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and four runs with three walks and a strikeout, Andrew Vasquez pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two walks and Seranthony Dominguez pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

DJ LeMahieu had two hits, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk and Anthony Rizzo had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Giancarlo Stanton had an RBI and drew a walk, Torres had two hits, two RBI and drew three walks.  Franchy Cordero had a hit and two RBI, Aaron Hicks drew a walk and Jose Trevino had two hits and an RBI.  Anthony Volpe drew two walks.  Cordero hit a double, LeMahieu hit a triple and Torres and Rizzo each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Torres had a stolen base and Cordero had an outfield assist. 

Trea Turner had two hits, JT Realmuto had a hit and Alec Bohm had three hits.  Darick Hall had a hit, Edmundo Sosa had a hit and an RBI and Bryson Stott had a hit.  Brandon Marsh had two hits, Bohm and Marsh each hit a double and the Phillies were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the bottom of the first Stanton hit an RBI groundout and Torres hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the third Torres hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 3-0.  In the top of the fourth Sosa hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the fifth Rizzo hit a two-run homerun extending the Yankees lead to 5-1.  Cordero hit a two-run double making it a 7-1 game.  Trevino hit an RBI single and it was 8-1 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play on Tuesday night in game two of the three-game series.

New York Yankees roughed up the Boston Red Sox

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 12-5.  Nestor Cortes Jr. started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  The bullpen did pitch well and the offense was led by Gleyber Torres who had three hits. 

Cortes pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Miguel Castro won his fifth game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up a hit and he struck out three.  Albert Abreu pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout and Lucas Luetge pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk and he struck out six.  Luetge saved his first game of the season. 

Connor Seabold started for the Red Sox and he pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and seven runs.  He walked two and struck out two and took his second loss of the season.  Michael Feliz pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two runs with one of them being earned and he walked two and struck out four, Austin Davis pitched two innings giving up three hits and two runs and he struck out one and Jackie Bradley Jr. pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with three walks and a strikeout. 

DJ LeMahieu had two hits and drew a walk, Aaron Judge drew a walk and Matt Carpenter had three hits and two RBI.  Isiah Kiner-Falefa had an RBI and drew a walk, Torres had three hits and two RBI and Josh Donaldson had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk.  Aaron Hicks had two hits and drew two walks, Jose Trevino had two hits and Marwin Gonzalez had had an RBI and drew a walk.  Joey Gallo had a hit and two RBI, Hicks, Carpenter, Trevino and Torres each hit a double and Gallo hit a triple.  Donaldson and Carpenter each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-16 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Donaldson and Gonzalez each had a stolen base. 

Rob Refsnyder had four hits, J.D. Martinez had three hits and a walk and Xander Bogaerts had an RBI.  Christian Vazquez had three hits and two RBI, Alex Verdugo drew a walk and Trevor Story had a hit and an RBI.  Christian Arroyo had a hit, Bobby Dalbec had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Vazquez and Refsnyder each hit a double.  Story and Dalbec each hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Vazquez committed an error. 

In the first Torres hit an RBI single and Donaldson a three-run homerun to give the Yankees a 4-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Vazquez hit a two-run double cutting the lead to 4-2.  In the second Carpenter hit an RBI double pushing the Yankees lead to 5-2.  In the third Gallo hit a two-run triple extending the lead to 7-2.  Carpenter hit a solo homerun in the fourth making it 8-2 and Donaldson stole a base and scored on a throwing error making it 9-2.  In the bottom of the fourth Story hit a solo homerun and Dalbec hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 9-4.  In the bottom of the sixth Bogaerts hit an RBI groundout making it a 9-5 game.  In the seventh Gonzalez hit a sac bunt and a run scored, in the eighth Torres hit an RBI double and in the ninth IKF had an RBI walk making it 12-5 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have taken the first two games and will play game three of four on Saturday night.  The series will conclude on Sunday night.

New York Yankees lose a wild slugfest in Detroit


The New York Yankees lost to the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan and the final score was 12-11.  Nestor Cortes Jr. started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  Brett Gardner and Didi Gregorius each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Cortes Jr. pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with two of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out two.  Luis Cessa pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with one being earned, Cory Gearrin pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs and Jonathan Loaisiga pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with two walks.  Ryan Dull pitched to one batter and got him out, Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and three strikeouts and Zack Britton pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Chance Adams took his first loss of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Edwin Jackson pitched two innings giving up six hits and six runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Tyler Alexander pitched four innings giving up two hits and two runs with four strikeouts, John Schreiber pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout and Daniel Stumpf pitched giving up a hit and a run.  Jose Cisnero pitched to one batter and got him out, Buck Farmer pitched an inning giving up a walk and Joe Jimenez pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and he won his fourth game of the season. 

Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI, Gardner had two hits and three RBI and Gary Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk.  Edwin Encarnacion had a hit and two RBI, Gregorius had two hits and two RBI and Gio Urshela had a hit.  Mike Ford had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Clint Frazier had a hit and Tyler Wade had a hit and two RBI.  Urshela hit a double, Wade hit a triple and Gardner hit two homeruns.  Res and Encarnacion hit a homerun and Gregorius also hit two homeruns.  The Yankees were 3-5 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Estrada had a stolen base, Torres committed an error and Sanchez had a passed ball. 

Victor Reyes had a hit, Harold Castro had three hits and an RBI and Miguel Cabrera had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Jeimer Candelario had three hits and three RBI, Dawel Lugo drew a walk and Christin Stewart had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Travis Demeritte had a hit and an RBI, Grayson Greiner had three hits and two RBI, Jordy Mercer had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Greiner hit a double and Stewart hit a homerun and the Tigers were 8-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

In the first Gardner hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Ford hit an RBI single and Wade hit a two-run triple to push the lead to 4-0.  Gardner hit a two-run homerun and it was 6-0.  In the third Cabrera hit an RBI single, Candelario hit an RBI single and Stewart hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 6-3.  Demeritte hit an RBI single, Greiner hit a two-run single and the game was tied at six.  In the fourth Torres hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees back the lead at 7-6.  In the fifth Gregorius hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 8-6.  In the bottom of the fifth Stewart hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 8-7.  In the sixth Cabrera hit a sac fly to tie the game at eight.  Candelario hit a two-run single to give the Tigers a 10-8 lead.  In the seventh Encarnacion hit a two-run homerun tying the game at ten.  Gregorius hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 11-10 lead.  In the bottom of the seventh Castro hit an RBI single to tie the game at 11.  In the bottom of the ninth the Tigers walked off on an RBI single by Mercer to win the game 12-11. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

New York Yankees fail to sweep the road trip with extra innings loss in Kansas City


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Kaufmann Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri and the final score was 8-7 in 10 innings.  Domingo German started for the Yankees and he was roughed up.  Nestor Cortes Jr. ate up some innings out of the bullpen and Clint Frazier had three hits to lead the offense. 

German pitched five innings giving up nine hits and seven runs with six strikeouts.  Cortes Jr. pitched four innings giving up four hits and he walked two with four strikeouts and Jonathan Holder took his second loss of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout. 

Danny Duffy pitched six innings giving up five hits and four runs with one being earned.  He walked one and struck out four.  Wily Peralta pitched an inning giving up two hits, Jake Diekman pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts and Ian Kennedy pitched an inning giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Kevin McCarthy pitched an inning and he gave up a walk and won his first game of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and an RBI, Luke Voit drew two walks and Aaron Hicks had a hit and two RBI.  Gary Sanchez had a hit, Gleyber Torres had two hits and three RBI, Kendrys Morales drew two walks and Frazier had three hits and an RBI.  Gio Urshela had two hits, Cameron Maybin had a hit and Maybin hit a double.  Torres hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Frazier committed an error. 

Nicky Lopez drew a walk, Whit Merrifield had a hit and an RBI and Adalberto Mondesi had a hit.  Alex Gordon had a hit, Huner Dozier had four hits and two RBI and Jorge Soler had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Ryan O’Hearn had two hits and an RBI, Martin Maldonado had two hits and three RBI and Billy Hamilton had a hit and drew a walk.  Mondesi hit a double and Soler, O’Hearn, Dozier and Maldonado each hit a homerun.  The Royals were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Hamilton had a stolen base and Mondesi committed an error. 

In the second Frazier hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Maldonado hit a three-run homerun giving the Royals a 3-1 lead.  In the fourth O’Hearn hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 4-1.  In the fifth Dozier hit a two-run homerun to increase the lead to 6-1.  Soler hit a solo homerun and it was 7-1 Royals.  In the sixth Torres hit a three-run homerun to cut the lead to 7-4.  In the ninth LeMahieu hit an RBI single and Hicks hit a two-run single to tie the game at seven.  In the bottom of the tenth Merrifield hit an RBI walk-off single to give the Royals the 8-7 victory. 

The Yankees had won their first six games of this seven-game road trip and they won the first two games of this three game series.  The Yankees will return home on Monday after a 6-1 road trip to take on the San Diego Padres.
