New York Yankees shutdown by the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-1.  Sonny Gray started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch that well.  The Yankees offense was non-existent after the second batter of the game. 

Gray pitched seven innings giving up five hits and four runs with a walk and nine strikeouts.  Gray took his ninth loss of the season.  Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out the side and Adam Warren pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Doug Fister won his fourth game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up four hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts.  Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning and Craig Kimbrel pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and he earned his 32nd save of the season. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Aaron Judge had a hit and an RBI and Greg Bird drew a walk.  Chase Headley had a hit, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and Gardner and Judge each hit a double.  The Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Eduardo Nunez had a hit and two RBI, Andrew Benintendi had two hits and an RBI and Mookie Betts had a hit.  Dustin Pedroia had a hit, Rafael Devers had a hit and Hanley Ramirez had a hit and an RBI.  Brock Holt drew a walk, Nunez, Benintendi and Ramirez each hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Betts had a stolen base. 

In the first Judge hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Nunez hit a two-run homerun giving the Red Sox a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Benintendi hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 3-1 and in the seventh Ramirez hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 4-1 and that was the final score. 
The two teams will play game three of four on Saturday afternoon.

New York Yankees are roughed up by the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 10-5.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched poorly.  Gary Sanchez, Didi Gregorius and Chase Headley each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Severino lost his fifth game of the season pitching 4 1/3 innings and giving up eight hits and ten runs.  He gave up eight earned runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Gio Gallegos pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out four and Bryan Mitchell pitched two innings giving up three hits. 

Drew Pomeranz won his 12th game of the season pitching 6 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Brandon Workman pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings and Robby Scott pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Aaron Hicks drew a walk and Sanchez had two hits and two RBI.  Gregorius had two hits, Todd Frazier drew a walk and Headley had two hits and an RBI.  Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and two RBI, Ronald Torreyes had a hit and Sanchez hit a double and a homerun, Headley and Ellsbury each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  T. Frazier committed an error and Gregorius committed an error.  Gardner had two outfield assists. 

Eduardo Nunez had a hit, Mookie Betts had two hits and two RBI and Andrew Benintendi had two hits and six RBI.  Hanley Ramirez had a hit, Mitch Moreland had two hits and Rafael Devers had two hits and two RBI.  Christian Vazquez had a hit and drew a walk, Jackie Bradley Jr. had a hit and drew a walk and Betts, Moreland and Devers each hit a double.  Benintendi hit two homeruns and the Red Sox were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Pomeranz and Devers each committed an error. 

In the first Sanchez hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees the lead.  In the third Betts hit a two-run single to tie the game at two.  Benintendi hit a three-run homerun to give the Bosox a 5-2 lead.  In the fourth Ellsbury hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 5-3.  In the fifth Benintendi hit a three-run homerun to extend the lead to 8-3.  Devers hit a two-run double to push the lead to 10-3.  In the ninth Headley and Ellsbury each hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 10-5 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game of the three game series on Sunday night.
