New York Yankees even series with the Toronto Blue Jays

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-3.  Carlos Rodon started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen pitched very well and Aaron Judge, Austin Wells and Anthony Volpe each had two hits. 

Rodon pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with two walks and eight strikeouts.  He won his 12th game of the season.  Jake Cousins pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Luke Weaver pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out three and Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Mark Leiter Jr. pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and Clay Holmes faced one batter and struck him out earning his 23rd save of the season. 

Jose Berrios started for the Blue Jays and he pitched five innings giving up seven hits and six runs with five of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out six and took his ninth loss of the season.  Erik Swanson pitched a perfect inning, Ryan Burr pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and a strikeout and Yerry Rodriguez pitched an inning giving up two hits and an unearned run with a strikeout. 

Juan Soto had a hit, Judge had two hits, two RBI and drew two walks and Wells had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew a walk, Jazz Chisholm Jr. had a hit and drew a walk and Volpe had two hits and three RBI.  Trent Grisham had a hit and two RBI, Judge, Grisham and Volpe each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

George Springer drew a walk, Joey Loperfido had a hit and Vlad Guerrero Jr. had three hits and an RBI.  Alejandro Kirk had a hit and two RBI, Spencer Horwitz had a hit and drew a walk and Daulton Varsho had a hit.  Leo Jimenez had a hit, Addison Barger drew a walk and Guerrero Jr. hit a double.  Guerrero Jr. hit a homerun and the Blue Jays were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Horwitz and Jimenez each committed an error. 

In the top of the first Guerrero Jr. hit a solo  homerun giving the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Judge hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the second Grisham hit a two-run homerun extending the lead to 4-1.  In the bottom of the fifth Volpe hit a two-run homerun pushing the lead to 6-1.  In the top of the sixth Kirk hit a two-run single cutting the lead to 6-3.  In the bottom of the seventh Volpe hit an RBI single making it 7-3 and in the bottom of the eighth Wells hit an RBI single making it an 8-3 game and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play the rubber game of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon.

New York Yankees slug the Oakland Athletics

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-3.  Clarke Schmidt started for the Yankees, and he pitched well, the bullpen pitched great.  Anthony Volpe, Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo, and Austin Wells each had two hits to lead the offensive attack.   

Schmidt started for the Yankees, and he pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and three runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Schmidt won his second game of the season.  Luke Weaver pitched 2 2/3 perfect innings with three strikeouts and Ian Hamilton pitched a perfect ninth inning. 

Joe Boyle started for the Athletics, and he pitched three innings giving up three hits and two runs with four walks and six strikeouts.  Boyle picked up his fourth loss of the season.  Michael Kelly pitched two innings giving up three hits and three runs with a strikeout, Dany Jimenez pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Kyle Muller pitched two innings giving up four hits and a run. 

Volpe had two hits and an RBI, Juan Soto had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Judge had two hits and two RBI.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, Rizzo had two hits and an RBI and Gleyber Torres had a hit.  Alex Verdugo had an RBI and drew two walks; Wells had two hits and drew a walk and Volpe hit a triple.  Judge, Rizzo and Soto each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Tyler Nevin had a hit, JJ Bleday had a hit and Brent Rooker had a hit, three RBI and drew two walks.  Lawrence Butler had a hit, Bleday and Nevin each hit a double and Rooker hit a homerun.  The Athletics were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Noda and Allen each committed errors.  Butler had an outfield assist. 

In the bottom of the first Judge hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth Volpe hit an RBI triple pushing the lead to 3-0 and in the bottom of the fifth Rizzo hit a two-run homerun extending the lead to 5-0.  In the top of the sixth Rooker hit a three-run homerun cutting the lead to 5-3.  In the bottom of the sixth Soto hit a solo homerun making it 6-3 and in the bottom of the seventh Verdugo hit a sac fly pushing the lead to 7-3 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees will try and win the series on Thursday night.
