New York Yankees even series with the Toronto Blue Jays

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-3.  Carlos Rodon started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen pitched very well and Aaron Judge, Austin Wells and Anthony Volpe each had two hits. 

Rodon pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with two walks and eight strikeouts.  He won his 12th game of the season.  Jake Cousins pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Luke Weaver pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out three and Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Mark Leiter Jr. pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and Clay Holmes faced one batter and struck him out earning his 23rd save of the season. 

Jose Berrios started for the Blue Jays and he pitched five innings giving up seven hits and six runs with five of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out six and took his ninth loss of the season.  Erik Swanson pitched a perfect inning, Ryan Burr pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and a strikeout and Yerry Rodriguez pitched an inning giving up two hits and an unearned run with a strikeout. 

Juan Soto had a hit, Judge had two hits, two RBI and drew two walks and Wells had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew a walk, Jazz Chisholm Jr. had a hit and drew a walk and Volpe had two hits and three RBI.  Trent Grisham had a hit and two RBI, Judge, Grisham and Volpe each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

George Springer drew a walk, Joey Loperfido had a hit and Vlad Guerrero Jr. had three hits and an RBI.  Alejandro Kirk had a hit and two RBI, Spencer Horwitz had a hit and drew a walk and Daulton Varsho had a hit.  Leo Jimenez had a hit, Addison Barger drew a walk and Guerrero Jr. hit a double.  Guerrero Jr. hit a homerun and the Blue Jays were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Horwitz and Jimenez each committed an error. 

In the top of the first Guerrero Jr. hit a solo  homerun giving the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Judge hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the second Grisham hit a two-run homerun extending the lead to 4-1.  In the bottom of the fifth Volpe hit a two-run homerun pushing the lead to 6-1.  In the top of the sixth Kirk hit a two-run single cutting the lead to 6-3.  In the bottom of the seventh Volpe hit an RBI single making it 7-3 and in the bottom of the eighth Wells hit an RBI single making it an 8-3 game and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play the rubber game of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon.

New York Yankees fall to the Toronto Blue Jays

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-5.  Marcus Stroman started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  The bullpen was good and the offense was led by Anthony Volpe who had three hits. 

Stroman pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and seven runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Stroman lost his sixth game of the season.  Michael Tonkin pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with three strikeouts, Tim Hill pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Enyel De Los Santos pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Jake Cousins pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Kevin Gausman started for the Blue Jays and he pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and five runs with four of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out two.  Genesis Cabrera pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Bendon Little pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and won his first game of the season and Zach Pop pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Chad Green picked up his eighth save of the season pitching a perfect inning with three strikeouts. 

Juan Soto had a hit and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Austin Wells had two hits.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, Gleyber Torres had a hit and Ben Rice drew two walks.  Volpe had three hits and two RBI.  Soto, Volpe and Stanton each hit a double and Judge and Volpe each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-7 with runnners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Verdugo and Soto each had an outfield assist. 

George Springer had a hit, Joey Loperfido had two hits and Vlad Guerrero Jr. had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Spencer Horwitz had two hits and two RBI, Daulton Varsho had a hit and Ernei Clement had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk.  Davis Schneider had a hit, Leo Jimenez drew a walk and Brian Serven had two hits and two RBI.  Clement, Guerrero Jr. and Schneider each hit a double.  Loperfido hit a triple and the Blue Jays were 7-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Varsho committed an error and Loperfido had an outfield assist. 

In the top of the first Guerrero Jr. hit an RBI single and Clement hit a two-run double giving the Jays a 3-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Judge hit a two-run homerun cutting the lead to 3-2.  In the top of the third Horwitz hit an RBI single and Clement hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 5-2.  Serven hit a two-run single extending the lead to 7-2.  In the bottom of the fifth Volpe hit a two-run homerun cutting the lead to 7-4.  Wells hit an RBI single and it was a 7-5 game.  In the top of the sixth Horwitz hit an RBI single making it 8-5 Jays and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.

New York Yankees lose a close one to the Angels

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Anaheim Angels on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California and the final score was 4-3.  Nestor Cortes Jr. started for the Yankees, and he pitched well and the bullpen pitched well, Luke Weaver had a little hiccup.  The offense was led by Anthony Volpe and Juan Soto who each had two hits. 

Cortes Jr. pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with no walks and four strikeouts.  Tommy Khanle pitched to two batters and retired them both, Weaver pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with three strikeouts and he took his first loss of the season.  Clay Holmes blew his third save of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up two hits. 

Griffin Canning started for the Angels, and he pitched five innings giving up nine this and three runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Hunter Strickland pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Luis Garcia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Matt Moore pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and earned his first win of the season.  Carlos Estevez pitched a perfect inning and earned his eighth save of the season. 

Volpe had two hits, Soto had two hits and two RBI and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Alex Verdugo had a hit, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew a walk.  Austin Wells had a hit and an RBI, DJ LeMahieu drew a walk.  Wells hit a double and Soto hit a homerun, the Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Cortes had a pickoff. 

Luis Rengifo had three hits, Taylor Ward had a hit and two RBI and Kevin Pillar had three hits and two RBI.  Zach Neto had a hit, Willie Calhoun had a hit and Ward hit a double and Pillar hit a homerun.  The Angels were 3-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Neto was picked off and Adell had an outfield assist. 

In the first Soto hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Pillar hit a two-run homerun giving the Angels a 2-1 lead.  In the fourth Soto hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  In the fifth Wells hit an RBI double giving the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the eighth Ward hit a two-run double giving the Angels a 4-3 lead and they would keep that lead and win the game.  The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

New York Yankees win second straight in San Diego

 

The New York Yankees defeated the San Diego Padres on Saturday night.  The game took place at Petco Park in San Diego, California and the final score was 4-1.  Marcus Stroman started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen pitched well and the offense was led by Anthony Volpe, Aaron Judge and Alex Verdugo each had two hits. 

Stroman won his fourth game of the season pitching six innings and giving up three hits and no runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Luke Weaver pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with two walks and a strikeout and Clay Holmes pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and he earned his 15th save of the season. 

Dylan Cease started for the Padres and he pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs with no walks and nine strikeouts.  Cease lost his fourth game of the season.  Yuki Matsui pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts and Enyel De Los Santos pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. 

Volpe had two hits, Judge had two hits and two RBI and Verdugo had two hits.  Anthony Rizzo had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI and Oswaldo Cabrera had a hit.  Judge hit a double and a homerun and the Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Luis Arraez had a hit, Fernando Tatis Jr. had a hit and an RBI and Jurikson Profar drew a walk.  Jake Cronenworth had a hit, Manny Machado had a hit and Luis Campusano drew two walks.  Cronenworth hit a triple and Tatis Jr. hit a homerun and the Padres were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the first Judge hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Rizzo hit an RBI single extending the lead to 3-0 and Torres hit a sac fly making it 4-0.  In the bottom of the eight Tatis Jr. hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 4-1 and that was the final score.  The Yankees will look for the three game sweep on Sunday afternoon.

New York Yankees slug the Oakland Athletics

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-3.  Clarke Schmidt started for the Yankees, and he pitched well, the bullpen pitched great.  Anthony Volpe, Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo, and Austin Wells each had two hits to lead the offensive attack.   

Schmidt started for the Yankees, and he pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and three runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Schmidt won his second game of the season.  Luke Weaver pitched 2 2/3 perfect innings with three strikeouts and Ian Hamilton pitched a perfect ninth inning. 

Joe Boyle started for the Athletics, and he pitched three innings giving up three hits and two runs with four walks and six strikeouts.  Boyle picked up his fourth loss of the season.  Michael Kelly pitched two innings giving up three hits and three runs with a strikeout, Dany Jimenez pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Kyle Muller pitched two innings giving up four hits and a run. 

Volpe had two hits and an RBI, Juan Soto had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Judge had two hits and two RBI.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, Rizzo had two hits and an RBI and Gleyber Torres had a hit.  Alex Verdugo had an RBI and drew two walks; Wells had two hits and drew a walk and Volpe hit a triple.  Judge, Rizzo and Soto each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Tyler Nevin had a hit, JJ Bleday had a hit and Brent Rooker had a hit, three RBI and drew two walks.  Lawrence Butler had a hit, Bleday and Nevin each hit a double and Rooker hit a homerun.  The Athletics were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Noda and Allen each committed errors.  Butler had an outfield assist. 

In the bottom of the first Judge hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth Volpe hit an RBI triple pushing the lead to 3-0 and in the bottom of the fifth Rizzo hit a two-run homerun extending the lead to 5-0.  In the top of the sixth Rooker hit a three-run homerun cutting the lead to 5-3.  In the bottom of the sixth Soto hit a solo homerun making it 6-3 and in the bottom of the seventh Verdugo hit a sac fly pushing the lead to 7-3 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees will try and win the series on Thursday night.

New York Yankees double up the Cleveland Guardians to even series

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-2.  Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and he had to grind it out.  The bullpen pitched well and Anthony Volpe and Anthony Rizzo led the offense with two hits each. 

Cole pitched six innings giving up five hits and two runs with three walks and eight strikeouts.  Ron Marinaccio pitched 2/3 of an inning and walked one, Wandy Peralta won his second game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up one hit and Michael King saved his second game of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings and giving up a walk and he struck out three. 

Tanner Bibee started for the Guardians and he pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with no walks and five strikeouts.  James Karinchak pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a  walk and a strikeout and he lost his fourth game of the season and Eli Morgan pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run. 

Volpe had two hits and an RBI, Gleyber Torres had a hit and Rizzo had two hits and an RBI.  DJ LeMahieu had a hit and an RBI, Harrison Bader had a hit and Willie Calhoun had a hit and an RBI.  Oswaldo Cabrera had a hit, Jose Trevino drew a walk and Torres hit a double and Volpe and Calhoun each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Volpe had two stolen bases and Rizzo was caught stealing.  Cole committed an error. 

Steven Kwan drew a walk, Amed Rosario had a hit and drew a walk and Jose Ramirez had two hits and drew a walk.  Josh Naylor had a hit and an RBI, Josh Bell had a hit and drew two walks and Andres Gimenez had an RBI.  Will Brennan had a hit, Naylor hit a double and the Guardians were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Kwan had a stolen base and Bibee committed an error. 

In the third Naylor hit an RBI double and Gimenez hit an RBI groundout giving the Guardians a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth Volpe hit a solo homerun and Rizzo hit an RBI single tying the game at two.  In the bottom of the seventh Calhoun hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 3-2 lead and in the bottom of the eighth LeMahieu hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 4-2 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game on Wednesday night.

New York Yankees win on a walk-off over the Blue Jays

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen was good and Gleyber Torres led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Cole pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up four hits and no runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Ron Marinaccio pitched an inning with a walk, Clay Holmes pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and Wandy Peralta pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and tow runs with a walk.  Jimmy Cordero earned his first win of the season pitching to two batters and retiring them both. 

Alek Manoah started for the Blue Jays and he pitched seven innings giving up two hits and no runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Yimi Garcia pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs and Jordan Romano pitched giving up three hits and a run with a walk and he didn’t record an out.  Romano lost his first game of the season. 

Anthony Volpe had a hit and two RBI, Anthony Rizzo had a hit and Torres had two hits.  Willie Calhoun drew a walk, DJ LeMahieu had a hit and an RBI and Oswaldo Cabrera had a hit.  Oswald Peraza had a hit and drew a walk, Cabrera and Rizzo each hit a double and Volpe hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Cabrera and Peraza each had a stolen base. 

George Springer had a hit and a walk, Bo Bichette had a hit and Vlad Guerrero Jr. had a hit and drew a walk.  Daulton Varsho had a hit, Alejandro Kirk had a hit and drew two walks and Danny Jansen had a hit and two RBI.  Whit Merrifield had a hit, Guerrero Jr., Kirk and Bichette each hit a double and Jansen hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Varsho had a stolen base and Springer was caught stealing.  Kirk committed an error. 

In the bottom of the eighth Volpe hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the top of the ninth Jansen hit a two-run homerun to tie the game.  In the bottom of the ninth LeMahieu hit a pinch hit walk-off RBI single to give the Yankees a 3-2 victory. 

The two teams will play game three the rubber game of the series on Sunday afternoon.
