The Toronto Blue Jays win a thrilling AL Wild Card game over the Baltimore Orioles



The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and the final score was 5-2.  Marcus Stroman started for the Blue Jays and pitched well and Chris Tillman pitched well for the Orioles.  Edwin Encarnacion was the hero as he hit the walk off homerun for the Blue Jays. 

Stroman pitched six innings giving up four hits and two runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out six.  Brett Cecil pitched 1/3 of an inning with a walk, Joe Biagini pitched to two batters and struck them both out and Jason Grilli pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Roberto Osuna pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out two and Francisco Liriano earned the win pitching 1 2/3 innings and he struck out one. 

Tillman pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Mychal Givens pitched 2 1/3 innings striking out three, Donnie Hart pitched to one batter and retired him and Brad Brach pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Darren O'Day pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out one, Brian Duensing pitched 1/3 of an inning with a strikeout and Ubaldo Jimenez took the loss pitching without recording an out.  He gave up three hits and three runs. 

Devon Travis had a hit, Josh Donaldson had two hits and Encarnacion had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk.  Jose Bautista had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Michael Saunders had a hit and Kevin Pillar had a hit.  Ezequiel Carrera had two hits and an RBI.  Saunders, Pillar and Donaldson each hit a double and Bautista and Encarnacion each hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Adam Jones had a hit, Manny Machado had a hit and Mark Trumbo had a hit and two RBI.  Chris Davis drew a walk, Michael Bourn had a hit and Trumbo hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Bourn had a stolen base. 

In the second Bautista hit a solo homerun to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Trumbo hit a two run homerun to give the Orioles a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Carrera hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  In the 11th Encarnacion hit a three run walk off homerun to give the Jays a 5-2 victory. 

The Jays will move on to play the Texas Rangers in the ALDS and the Orioles are going home.

The New York Yankees fail to sweep the Baltimore Orioles



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-1.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched ok and Chad Green was good out of the bullpen.  The Yankees offense only had five hits. 

Sabathia pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  He lost his eighth game of the season and Green pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out one. 

Chris Tillman won his 14th game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up four hits and a run with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Brad Brach pitched an inning giving up a hit and Zach Britton saved his 30th game of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and Brian McCann drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Starlin Castro had a hit and an RBI and Ronald Torreyes had a hit.  Gregorius hit a double and the Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Sabathia committed an error. 

Jonathan Schoop had two hits and two RBI, Manny Machado had two hits and Chris Davis drew a walk.  J.J. Hardy had two hits and two RBI, Caleb Joseph had two hits and Julio Borbon had a hit.  Schoop hit a double and the Orioles were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the first Hardy hit a two run single to give the Orioles a 2-0 lead.  In the second Castro hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the seventh Schoop hit a two run double to push the Orioles lead to 4-1 and that would be the final score of the game. 

The Yankees took three out of four in the series.  They will remain at home and begin a three game series with the San Francisco Giants on Friday night.

New York Yankees blow late lead in Baltimore and fall to the Orioles



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 6-5.  Nathan Eovaldi started for the Yankees and he didn't pitch that well.  Brett Gardner, Didi Gregorius and Chase Headley each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Eovaldi piitched 5 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and five runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Kirby Yates pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Dellin Betances lost his third game of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Richard Bleier pitched a perfect inning. 

Chris Tillman pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and five runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  T.J. McFarland pitched an inning giving up a hit, Mychal Givens pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings and earned his fifth win of the season and Zach Britton saved his 16th game of the season and pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Gardner had two hits and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit and two RBI.  Alex Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI, Starlin Castro had a hit and Gregorius had two hits.  Headley had two hits and an RBI, Austin Romine had a hit and an RBI and Gregorius hit a double.  Beltran, Rodriguez and Romine each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Gardner was caught stealing. 

Adam Jones had a hit, Hyun Soo Kim had three hits and Manny Machado had an RBI.  Chris Davis had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Mark Trumbo had three hits, Matt Wieters had a hit and two RBI and Pedro Alvarez had a hit and an RBI.  Jonathan Schoop had a hit and an RBI, Trumbo and Schoop each hit a double and Davis hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Flaherty committed an error. 

In the second Alvarez hit an RBI single to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Beltran hit a two run homerun and the Yankees grabbed a 2-1 lead.  Rodriguez hit a solo homerun to go back-to-back and it was 3-1 Yankees.  In the bottom of the fourth Davis hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the fifth Romine hit a solo homerun making it 4-2 Yankees.  In the sixth Headley hit an RBI single and the score was 5-2 Yankees.  In the bottom of the sixth Wieters hit a two run single to cut the lead to 5-4.  Schoop hit an RBI double to tie the game at five.  In the seventh Machado hit an RBI groundout to give the Orioles a 6-5 lead and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees and Orioles will play game two of three on Saturday night.  The final game of the series will be on Sunday afternoon.

New York Yankees losing streak hits six as they fall in Baltimore



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 4-1.  This game was like so many during the Yankees struggles in the last 2 1/2 weeks.  They put guys on but can't drive them in and Luis Severino started and was just ok and hurt himself with a couple of fielding errors. 

Severino pitched six innings giving up four runs and five hits and three of them were earned.  He took his fourth loss of the season and he walked two and struck out four.  Kirby Yates pitched a perfect inning and Johnny Barbato pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Chris Tillman won his third game of the season and he pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run with four walks and nine strikeouts.  Brad Brach pitched an inning giving up a hit and Darren O'Day saved his second game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk and Dustin Ackley had a hit.  Mark Teixeira drew a walk, Brian McCann had a hit and drew two walks and Carlos Beltran had two hits.  Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI, Gardner hit a double and the Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Severino committed two errors. 

Manny Machado had a hit and drew a walk, Mark Trumbo had two hits and three RBI and Matt Wieters had a hit.  Pedro Alvarez drew a walk, Jonathan Schoop had a hit including a double and Machado also hit a double.  Trumbo hit two homeruns and the Orioles were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the second Gregorius hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Trumbo hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the fourth Flaherty reached on a missed catch error by Severino and a run scored making it 2-1 Orioles.  In the fifth Trumbo hit a two run homerun to extend the Orioles lead to 4-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have lost six straight games and the two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.  The Yankees will look to even the series and try to win the series to end the roadtrip on Thursday night.

The Yankees get pounded by the Orioles to lose their fourth straight

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles by the score of 11-5 on Tuesday night. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and was terrible. The Yankees offense was good early and then went to sleep the rest of the game. Chris Tillman started for the Orioles and was horrible in the first inning and then settled down. The Orioles bullpen also did a good job. The offense of the Orioles was led by Nick Markakis and Wilson Betemit. 
Nova pitched five innings giving up nine runs on ten hits. He walked one and struck out five and lost his fifth game of the season. Boone Logan pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two, Cody Eppley pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run and Clay Rapada pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run. Tillman won his fourth game of the season pitching five innings giving up eight hits and five runs, four of them were earned. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out three batters. Troy Patton pitched two innings giving up two hits and striking out three, Matt Lindstrom pitched a perfect inning and Luis Ayala pitched an inning giving up a hit.

Derek Jeter had three hits, Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI and Robinson Cano had a hit and two RBI. Nick Swisher had a hit, Raul Ibanez had a hit and Eric Chavez had a hit. Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and an RBI, Russell Martin had a hit and an RBI and Ramiro Pena had a hit. Jeter and Ibanez each hit a double. Cano hit a homerun. The Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base.

Markakis had three hits and two RBI, J.J. Hardy drew a walk and Chris Davis had a hit and four RBI. Adam Jones had a couple of hits, Matt Wieters had a hit and Lew Ford had a hit. Betemit had three hits and two RBI, Mark Reynolds had a hit and an RBI and Omar Quintanilla had a hit and two RBI. Reynolds, Ford, Betemit and Jones each hit a double. Davis and Markakis each hit a homerun. The Orioles were 6-14 with runners in scoring position and they left three men on base. Tillman committed an error and Ford had an outfield assist.

The Yankees scored five runs in the bottom of the first and the Orioles scored seven in the top of the second inning. Cano hit a two run homerun in the first for the Yankees. The Orioles scored all of their runs with two outs and Nova just missed having a ground ball back to him that would of ended the inning with just one run allowed. The big blow for the Orioles was the grand slam by Davis. Betemit hit an RBI double in the third to make it an 8-5 Orioles lead. Betemit hit an RBI single in the fifth to make it 9-5. In the eighth Markakis hit a two run homerun making it 11-5. That would be the final score.

The Yankees have now lost four games in a row and are trying to avoid a three game sweep on Wednesday afternoon. The Yankees record fell to 60-43. The Orioles improved their record to 55-49. They are six games behind the Yankees in the loss column for first place in the AL East.
