New York Yankees take a commanding 2-0 series lead over the Minnesota Twins


The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins in Game 2 of the ALDS on Saturday evening.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-2.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched very well.  The Yankees bullpen also did a good job and Aaron Judge, Edwin Encarnacion, Didi Gregorius and Gio Urshela each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched five innings giving up a run on three hits.  He walked one and struck out seven and earned the win.  Tommy Khanle pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts, Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Tyler Lyons pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Jonathan Loaisiga pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts. 

Randy Dobnak pitched two innings giving up six hits and four runs with two walks.  Dobnak took the loss.  Tyler Duffey pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and four runs with a walk and a strikeout, Devin Smeltzer pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up two hits and three walks with four strikeouts and Cody Stashak  pitched 2/3 of an inning  giving up a hit and a walk.  Trevor May pitched to one batter and retired him, Sergio Romo pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Zack Littell pitched to one batter and retired him. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk, Judge had two hits and drew two walks and Brett Gardner had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Encarnacion had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Giancarlo Stanton had an RBI and drew a walk and Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI.  Gary Sanchez drew a walk, Gregorius had two hits, four RBI and drew a walk.  Urshela had two hits, LeMahieu hit a double and Gregorius hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 5-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. 

Nelson Cruz had a hit and drew a walk, Eddie Rosario had a hit and Mitch Garver had two hits and an RBI.  Luis Arraez had two hits and an RBI, Arraez hit two doubles and the Twins were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the first Encarnacion hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Stanton hit a sac fly to push the lead to 2-0.  Torres hit an RBI single and Gregorius hit a grand-slam and the lead was up to 7-0.  Gardner hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 8-0.  In the fourth Garver hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 8-1.  In the ninth Arraez hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 8-2 but that would be the final score.  The Yankees took a 2-0 series lead and head to Minnesota for Game 3 on Monday night with a chance to close out the series and move on to the ALCS.

The Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 10-5.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  The Yankees bullpen did pitch well and Gleyber Torres and Edwin Encarnacion each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched four innings giving up eight hits and four runs with no walks and two strikeouts.  Chad Green pitched three perfect innings with five strikeouts and he won his third game of the season, Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run and Jonathan Loaisiga pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Rick Porcello pitched four innings giving up seven hits and six runs with a strikeout.  Porcello lost his 12th game of the season.  Ryan Brasier pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with one of them being earned and he struck out one, Trevor Kelley pitched to one batter and got him out and Josh Taylor pitched to one batter and struck him out.  Jhoulys Chacin pitched an inning with a walk, Josh Smith pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out two and Marcus Walden pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked one and Hector Velazquez pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit. 

DJ LeMahieu had ah it and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had two hits and two RBI and Didi Gregorius drew a walk.  Gary Sanchez had an RBI, Encarnacion had three hits and an RBI and Torres had three hits and four RBI.  Luke Voit had a hit, Mike Tauchman had two hits and two RBI and Cameron Maybin had a hit.  Tauchman and Torres each hit a double.  Torres, Tauchman and Judge each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 5-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Torres had a stolen base. 

Mookie Betts had two hits and an RBI, Rafael Devers had a hit and Brock Holt had two hits.  Mitch Moreland had a hit and an RBI, Sandy Leon had two hits and an RBI and Jackie Bradley Jr. had a hit and two RBI.  Moreland and Leon each hit a double and Bradley Jr. and Betts each hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Devers committed three errors. 

In the second Torres hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the third Judge hit an RBI single and Sanchez hit an RBI ground out to push the lead to 4-0.  In the bottom of the third Bradley Jr. hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 4-2.  In the fourth Tauchman hit a two-run homerun and the lead was extended to 6-2.  In the bottom of the fourth Moreland hit an RBI double and Leon hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 6-4.  In the fifth Judge hit a solo homerun and Torres hit into a force out to make it 8-4.  In the eighth Betts hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 8-5.  In the ninth Encarnacion hit an RBI single and Torres hit an RBI double to make it 10-5 and that was the final score.

New York Yankees get doubled up by the Arizona Diamondbacks


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-2.  J.A. Happ started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Edwin Encarnacion and Gio Urshela each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Happ pitched six innings giving up eight hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  He took his sixth loss of the season and Luis Cessa pitched three innings giving up three hits and a run. 

Taylor Clarke pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three hits and an unearned run.  He walked two and struck out six and won his fourth game of the season.  Yoshihisa Hirano pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.  Yoan Lopez pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Andrew Chafin faced a batter and got him out and Archie Bradley picked up his first save of the season pitching 1 1/3 perfect innings. 

Aaron Judge drew a walk, Encarnacion had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Tyler Wade had a hit and an RBI.  Didi Gregorius drew a walk, Urshela had two hits and Encarnacion hit a double and Wade hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

David Peralta had a hit, Eduardo Escobar had a hit and Christian Walker had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Adam Jones had two hits and an RBI, Wilmer Flores had a hit and Nick Ahmed had a hit and an RBI.  Jake Lamb had a hit, Carson Kelly had two hits and an RBI and Jones hit a double.  Walker and Kelly each hit a homerun and the Diamondbacks were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Jones committed an error. 

In the first Jones hit a sac fly to give the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Walker hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0.  Ahmed hit an RBI single to make it a 3-0 game.  In the sixth Encarnacion hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 3-1 and in the seventh Kelly hit a solo homerun to put the lead back up to 4-1.  In the bottom of the eighth Wade hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-2 and that would be the final score. 
The two teams will play the second and final game of the series on Wednesday afternoon.  The Yankees will be off on Thursday then open a four-game series with the Boston Red Sox on Friday night at home

New York Yankees salvage final game of series in Boston


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 9-6.  Domingo German started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Edwin Encarnacion, Gio Urshela and Cameron Maybin each had two hits to lead the offense. 

German pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and nine strikeouts.  German won his 13th game of the season.  Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts, Adam Ottavino pitched 2/3 of an inning givin gup two hits and Zack Britton pitched an inning giving up a hit and two walks with a strikeout.  Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out two. 

Chris Sale pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and six runs with three walks and seven strikeouts and he took his tenth loss of the season.  Colten Brewer pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Darwinzon Hernandez pitched an inning giving up a hit and two unearned runs with two walks and two strikeouts and Marcus Walden pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk.  Heath Hembree pitched an inning. 

Aaron Hicks drew two walks, Encarnacion had two hits and Luke Voit drew two walks.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Urshela had two hits and an RBI and Maybin had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Austin Romine had a hit and two RBI, Urshela hit two doubles and Encarnacion and Maybin each hit a double.  Romine and Gregorius each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Maybin was picked off and Torres and Gregorius each committed an error.  Romine had a passed ball. 

Mookie Betts had an RBI and drew a walk, Rafael Devers had a hit and drew a walk and Xander Bogaerts had three hits.  J.D. Martinez had an RBI and drew a walk, Andrew Benintendi had three hits and four RBI and Mitch Moreland had a hit.  Sam Travis drew a walk, Jackie Bradley Jr. had a hit and Christian Vasquez had a hit.  Bogaerts and Devers each hit a double and Benintendi hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Devers, Bradley Jr. and Holt each committed an error.  Brewer had a pickoff. 

In the third Romine hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Gregorius hit a two-run homerun to push the Yankees lead to 4-0.  In the bottom of the fourth Benintendi hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 4-2.  In the sixth Urshela hit an RBI double to push the lead to 5-2 and Maybin hit an RBI single making it 6-2.  In the sixth Martinez hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 6-3.  In the seventh Gregorius hit a sac fly and a run scored on an error to make it 8-3.  In the bottom of the seventh Betts hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 8-4.  In the eighth a wild pitch made it 9-4 and Benintendi hit a two-run single in the ninth to cut the lead to 9-6 but that would be the final score. 
The Yankees were able to salvage one of the four games and will be off on Monday before beginning a brief two-game set at home with the Arizona Dia

New York Yankees lose a close back and forth game to the Tampa Bay Rays


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-4.  James Paxton started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Aroldis Chapman blew the save and DJ LeMahieu, Aaron Hicks and Edwin Encarnacion each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Paxton pitched six innings giving up seven hits and two runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Chad Green pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk and Chapman blew his fourth save of the season and lost his second game of the season.  He pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with two strikeouts. 

Blake Snell pitched five innings giving up three hits and a run with two walks and four strikeouts.  Diego Castillo pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out two, Emilio Pagan pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Andrew Kittredge pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts and he won his first game of the season.  Oliver Drake pitched 1/3 of an inning striking out the only batter he faced.  Drake picked up his first save of the season. 

LeMahieu had two hits and drew a walk, Aaron Judge drew two walks and Hicks had two hits.  Encarnacion had two hits and three RBI, Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew a walk and Gio Urshela had a hit and an RBI.  Brett Gardner drew a walk, Encarnacion hit two homeruns and Urshela hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Judge had an outfield assist and Sanchez had a pickoff. 

Travis d’Arnaud had three hits and five RBI and drew two walks, Tommy Pham had a hit and Yandy Diaz had a hit.  Avisail Garcia had a hit and drew a walk, Kevin Kiermaier had two hits and Guillermo Heredia had a hit.  Willy Adames had two hits, d’Arnaud hit three homeruns and the Rays were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Pham and Adames each had a stolen base and Adames was picked off. 

In the first d’Arnaud hit a solo homerun giving the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the third d’Arnaud hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0.  IN the fourth Encarnacion hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 2-1.  In the seventh Urshela hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  In the eighth Encarnacion hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 4-2 lead.  In the ninth d’Arnaud hit his third homerun of the game a three-run shot to give the Rays a 5-4 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of four on Tuesday night.

New York Yankees shutout the Toronto Blue Jays


The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-0.  Domingo German started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  The Yankees bullpen shut it down for the final three innings and Edwin Encarnacion had the big blow to lead the offense. 

German pitched six innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked none and struck out seven and earned his 11th win of the season.  Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up two hits and no runs with no walks or strikeouts and Chad Green pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out three. 

Aaron Sanchez lost his 13th game of the season pitching five innings giving up seven hits and four runs.  He walked two and struck out two.  Sam Gaviglio pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out two and Justin Shafer pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

DJ LeMahieu had an RBI, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk and Aaron Hicks had two hits.  Gary Sanchez had a hit, Encarnacion had two hits and three RBI and Gleyber Torres had two hits and drew a walk.  Brett Gardner had two hits, Sanchez, Hicks, Encarnacion, Gardner and Torres each hit a double.  Gardner hit a triple and the Yankees were 1-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Hicks was caught stealing and Gardner had an outfield assist. 

Eric Sogard had two hits, Freddy Galvis had a hit and Cavin Biggio had a hit.  Vlad Guerrero Jr. had a hit, Danny Jansen had a hit and the Blue Jays were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Jansen committed an error. 

In the fifth LeMahieu hit an RBI ground out to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  Encarnacion hit a three-run double and the lead was pushed to 4-0 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.

New York Yankees get beat up by the Seattle Mariners


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 10-1.  Jonathan Loaisiga started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch very well, the bullpen gave up a bunch of runs late also.  DJ LeMahieu and Mike Tauchman each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Loaisiga pitched four innings giving up six hits and four runs with two walks and three strikeouts and lost his first game of the season.  Luis Cessa pitched three innings giving up three hits and a run with five strikeouts and Jake Barrett pitched two innings giving up five hits and five runs with two walks and three strikeouts. 

Yusei Kikuchi pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts.  Kikuchi won his second game of the season.  Cory Gearrin pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Connor Sadzeck pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

LeMahieu had two hits and drew a walk, Luke Voit had an RBI and Clint Frazier had a hit.  Mike Tauchman had two hits including a double and the Yankees were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Gio Urshela committed an error. 

Dee Gordon had two hits and an RBI, Mitch Haniger had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Daniel Vogelbach drew a walk.  Edwin Encarnacion had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Domingo Santana had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Omar Narvaez had two hits and two RBI.  Ryon Healy had four hits and two RBI, Dylan Moore had a hit and an RBI.  Santana and Moore each hit a double and Healy hit three doubles.  Encarnacion, Haniger and Healy each hit a homerun.  The Mariners were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Haniger had a stolen base and Moore was caught stealing. 

In the first Encarnacion hit a sac fly to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead.  In the third Haniger hit a solo homerun to make it a 2-0 game.  In the fourth Moore hit an RBI double, Gordon hit an RBI single and the lead was pushed to 4-0.  In the fifth Encarnacion hit a solo homerun to give the Mariners a 5-0 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth Voit hit a sac fly and the lead was cut to 5-1.  In the eighth Healy hit a two-run homerun to make it 7-1 and in the ninth Santana hit an RBI double and Narvaez hit a two-run single and it was 10-1 which would be the final score of the game. 

The two teams will play the fourth and final game of the series on Thursday night.  The Yankees have won two out of the first three games.

The Toronto Blue Jays win a thrilling AL Wild Card game over the Baltimore Orioles



The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and the final score was 5-2.  Marcus Stroman started for the Blue Jays and pitched well and Chris Tillman pitched well for the Orioles.  Edwin Encarnacion was the hero as he hit the walk off homerun for the Blue Jays. 

Stroman pitched six innings giving up four hits and two runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out six.  Brett Cecil pitched 1/3 of an inning with a walk, Joe Biagini pitched to two batters and struck them both out and Jason Grilli pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Roberto Osuna pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out two and Francisco Liriano earned the win pitching 1 2/3 innings and he struck out one. 

Tillman pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Mychal Givens pitched 2 1/3 innings striking out three, Donnie Hart pitched to one batter and retired him and Brad Brach pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Darren O'Day pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out one, Brian Duensing pitched 1/3 of an inning with a strikeout and Ubaldo Jimenez took the loss pitching without recording an out.  He gave up three hits and three runs. 

Devon Travis had a hit, Josh Donaldson had two hits and Encarnacion had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk.  Jose Bautista had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Michael Saunders had a hit and Kevin Pillar had a hit.  Ezequiel Carrera had two hits and an RBI.  Saunders, Pillar and Donaldson each hit a double and Bautista and Encarnacion each hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Adam Jones had a hit, Manny Machado had a hit and Mark Trumbo had a hit and two RBI.  Chris Davis drew a walk, Michael Bourn had a hit and Trumbo hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Bourn had a stolen base. 

In the second Bautista hit a solo homerun to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Trumbo hit a two run homerun to give the Orioles a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Carrera hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  In the 11th Encarnacion hit a three run walk off homerun to give the Jays a 5-2 victory. 

The Jays will move on to play the Texas Rangers in the ALDS and the Orioles are going home.

The New York Yankees drop their series to Toronto with one bad inning by CC Sabathia



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 6-3 on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.  CC Sabathia pitched one bad inning which was also a weird inning.  The bullpen was pretty good and Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira each hit a homerun. 

Sabathia pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and five runs with four of them being earned.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out eight and took his first loss of the season.  Esmil Rogers pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and David Carpenter pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Daniel Norris won his first game of the season pitching 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Roberto Osuna pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts, Brett Cecil pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two and Miguel Castro earned his first save pitching a perfect inning. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Rodriguez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit.  Mark Teixeira had a hit and an RBI, Chase Headley drew a walk and Chris Young drew a walk.  John Ryan Murphy had two hits, Didi Gregorius had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Beltran hit a double and Murphy hit two doubles.  Rodriguez and Teixeira each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Ellsbury was caught stealing and Beltran committed an error. 

Jose Reyes had two hits and an RBI, Edwin Encarnacion had two hits and an RBI and Josh Donaldson had two hits.  Danny Valencia had two hits, Kevin Pillar had a hit and an RBI and Steve Tolleson had an RBI.  Devon Travis had an RBI, Encarnacion hit a homerun and the Jays were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Pillar had an outfield assist. 

In the second Pillar hit an RBI single, Tolleson had an RBI groundout, Travis had an RBI groundout and Reyes had an RBI single to make it 4-0 Jays.  In the fifth Gregorius had an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1.  In the sixth Valencia hit an RBI single to make ti 5-1.  Rodriguez and Teixeira each hit a solo homerun in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-3.  In the eighth Encarnacion hit a solo homerun to make it 6-3 and that was the final score. 

The Jays took two out of three in the series and the Yankees will stay home to take on the Boston Red Sox for a three game series beginning on Friday night.

New York Yankee drop fourth straight opener as they lose to the Toronto Blue Jays



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday afternoon.  The final score was 6-1 and the game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.  Masahiro Tanaka started and had a rough outing especially in the third inning.  The Yankees offense only managed three hits, Alex Rodriguez was the only player to reach base more than once. 

Tanaka pitched four innings giving up five hits and five runs with four of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out six and took his first loss of the season.  Chris Martin pitched a perfect inning striking out the side, Chasen Shreve pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run and David Carpenter pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings striking out one.  Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three walks and he struck out one and Esmil Rogers struck out the only batter that he faced. 

Drew Hutchison earned his first win of the season pitching six innings and giving up three hits nad a run with two walks and three strikeouts.  Aaron Loup pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out one and Miguel Castro pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out one. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Carlos Beltran drew a walk and Mark Teixeira drew a walk.  Brian McCann had a hit, Rodriguez had a hit and drew a walk and Gardner hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Gregorius was caught stealing and Headley committed an error. 

Jose Reyes drew a walk, Russell Martin had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Edwin Encarnacion had a hit and two RBI.  Dioner Navarro had a hit, Dalton Pompey drew a walk and Kevin Pillar had two hits.  Devon Travis had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks.  Encarnacion and Travis each hit a homerun and the Blue Jays were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Pillar and Pompey each had a stolen base. 

In the third Reyes hit a sac bunt and an error occurred to allow a run to score.  Martin hit a two run single in the third and it was 3-0 Blue Jays.  Encarnacion hit a two run homerun and it was 5-0 Blue Jays quickly.  In the sixth Gardner hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 5-1.  In the seventh Travis hit a solo homerun to make it 6-1 Blue Jays and that was the final score. 

The two teams will be off on Tuesday and then resume their series on Wednesday night.  Michael Pineda will start for the Yankees against R.A. Dickey for the Blue Jays.

The New York Yankees are blanked in Toronto as their lead is down to one game

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 6-0 on Thursday night. The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada. Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and didn’t pitch well. The Yankees offense didn’t do anything and when they had a couple of chances late they couldn’t capitalize. Brandon Morrow pitched great for the Blue Jays and their offense was led by Edwin Encarnacion. 
Nova pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with two walks and four strikeouts. Nova lost his eighth game of the season, Clay Rapada pitched to one batter and retired him, Derek Lowe pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run and David Aardsma pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout. Morrow improved to 9-7 and pitched seven innings giving up four hits and no runs. He walked three and struck out three. Brad Lincoln pitched an inning striking out one and Darren Oliver pitched an inning giving up a hit.

Derek Jeter drew a walk, Alex Rodriguez drew a walk and Robinson Cano had three hits. Nick Swisher drew a walk, Russell Martin had two hits including a double and Cano hit a double. The Yankees were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

Brett Lawrie had two hits and two RBI, Colby Rasmus had two hits and Encarnacion had three hits and three RBI. J.P. Arencebia had two hits and an RBI. Kelly Johnson drew a walk, Moises Sierra drew a walk and Anthony Gose had a hit and drew a walk. Encarnacion hit a double, Lawrie and Arencibia hit a homerun. The Blue Jays were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Gose had an outfield assist.

Lawrie hit a two run homerun in the third to give the Jays a 2-0 lead. In the fifth Encarnacion hit a two run double to make it 4-0 Jays. In the seventh Encarnacion grounded out to score a run and make it 5-0. The Jays scored the last run of the game in the ninth on an Arencibia hit a solo homerun.

The Yankees lost the first of four to the Jays and now have a one game lead in the AL East. The two teams will play game two on Friday night. The Yankees record fell to 90-66 and the Blue Jays record improved to 69-87.
