Regular Season Game 2-Yankees at Red Sox

Tonight will be all about A.J. Burnett and Jorge Posada working together again. Last year they had trouble and it ended up at the end of the year that Jose Molina caught A.J. Burnett including through the playoffs. A.J. Burnett said he never had a problem and they worked together all spring and have appeared to get over whatever happened between them. Tonight will be the first official start together in a long time. I know everyone will be curious to see how they work together and that will be the big story. Here are the game notes and tonights lineup. I would love to here from you guys under this post as to how your feeling, what you think of the lineup?? What do you think of A.J. and Jorge?? Whatever else you want to discuss lets get it going here. This is game 2 of the 3 game opening series in Boston, it will be A.J. Burnett and Jon Lester on the mound. After this series the Yankees will be off on Thursday and head to Tampa for a weekend series before returning home next tuesday. Curtis Granderson homered in his first at bat and plate appearance as a Yankee. This was the first Yankees to accomplish that feat since Cody Ransom did so on 8/17/08 vs Kansas City. It was the first time a Yankee did it in his first plate appearance on Opening Day since Jim Wynn on 4/7/77 vs Milwaukee. The only players to homer in their first Yankees at bat at Fenway Park other then Granderson were Andy Phillips(2004), Graig Nettles(1973) and John Miller(1966). The season opening telecast on the YES network marked the second highest rated and second most watched regular season live sporting event ever on a NY regional sports network. It was second only to the YES networks 4/3/05 Yankees-Red Sox game. Chan Ho Park became the first Korean born Yankee in franchise history with his appearance on Sunday night. The Yankees fell to 14-19 on Easter with their loss on Sunday. The opening loss dropped them to 18-11-1 in 30 previous all time opening day games vs Boston. Yankees Lineup: Jeter(SS) Johnson(DH) Teixeira(1B) Rodriguez(3B) Cano(2B) Posada(C) Swisher(RF) Thames(LF) Granderson(CF)

CC is Back

CC Sabathia pitched a brilliant game tonight going 7 2/3 innings giving up 0 runs on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts. Jose Veras came in to finish the game with 1 1/3 innings giving up a couple of hits, 1 run with 1 walk and strikeout. The Yankees offense got out to an early lead again and then tacked on. Jorge Posada had a couple of doubles and 3 rbi. Nick Swisher continued to be red hot having a 2 run homerun and a rbi triple with 2 walks. Derek Jeter had a walk and a hit, Johnny Damon had a hit and walk. Hideki Matsui who has been struggling had a doube and walk and Xavier Nady had 2 singles. The Yankees go for the sweep tomorrow on Easter with Joba Chamberlain making his first start against Gil Meche, I wonder who will sit because I don't think Nick Swisher can be taken out of the lineup. Happy Easter and Passover to everyone, I will try and post in the morning but not sure how much I will be able to do tomorrow.

The season is rescued

I am being funny here but to some they really feel this way. Brian Cashman says around here it is 162 1 game seasons and that is how a lot of fans treat it and even some in the media. The Yankees played a great game today winning by the score of 11-2. AJ Burnett looked good going 5 1/3 innings, 2 runs with 6 strikeouts. Nick Swisher made his first start and had 5 rbi, Robbie Cano continued to be the All Star version having 3 hits a homerun and a couple of rbi's. The bullpen was just pure dominance again with Phil Coke striking out both batters he faced then Jose Veras, Brian Bruney and Mo pitching perfect innings. Mark Teixera had a couple of hits, a homerun and rbi. Ramiro Pena got one at bat and had his first major league hit. The Yankees head to KC now and will play tomorrow afternoon at 4:00pm with Andy Pettitte going against ex teammate Sidney Ponson. Saturday night at 7:00pm Joba will square off against Horacio Ramirez and Sunday afternoon Easter Sunday CC Sabathia will face Gil Meche. I hope the Yankees will take a deep breath now and relax and get at least 2 out of 3 in KC if not sweep them. I know it is early but I really like what I see out of Nick Swisher so far and think he needs to get some more at bats, I am sure he will be playing tomorrow and if he continues to hit he will keep playing. I do like Xavier Nady but he is more of a free swinger and I also like the fact that Swisher is a switch hitter and just brings a lot of enery to the team. The Yankees need to get their pitching right and they will be fine, if there pitching keeps them in it they will win because they can score enough runs even without Alex Rodriguez. I fully expect that all the pitchers will get going and be very potent and tough to beat.
