New York Yankees are blown out in Houston


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Houston Astros on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas and the final score was 8-1.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Severino pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up nine this and six runs with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Severino lost his fourth game of the season.  Tyler Webb pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Domingo German pitched two innings giving up four hits and two runs with a strikeout. 

Mike Fiers pitched four innings giving up two hits and no runs with four walks and seven strikeouts.  Chris Devenski pitched two perfect innings with four strikeouts and picked up his fifth win of the season, Michael Feliz pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and James Hoyt pitched an inning giving up two hits.  Ashur Tolliver pitched giving up two hits and a run with a walk and he didn’t record an out and Dayan Diaz pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Judge had two hits, Sanchez had two hits and drew a walk and Didi Gregorius drew a walk.  Chase Headley had a hit, Chris Carter had a hit and an RBI and Tyler Wade drew a walk.  Rob Refsnyder drew a walk, Clint Frazier drew a walk and Judge and Headley each hit a double.  The Yankees were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left nien men on base.  Wade had a stolen base and Sanchez committed two errors. 

George Springer had two hits, Josh Reddick had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Jose Altuve had a hit.  Carlos Correa had four hits and three RBI, Carlos Beltran had two hits and Marwin Gonzalez had a hit and two RBI.  Yuli Gurriel had three hits and two RBI, Nori Aoki drew a walk and Correa hit two doubles and Beltran, Gurriel, Reddick each hit a double.  Springer hit two doubles.  Gonzalez and Gurriel each hit a homerun and the Astros were 6-17 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. 

In the second Gonzalez hit a two-run homerun giving the Astros a 2-0 lead.  Reddick hit an RBI double to push the lead to 3-0.  In the fourth Correa hit a two-run double to extend the Astros lead to 5-0.  In the sixth Correa hit an RBI single to make it 6-0.  In the seventh Gurriel hit a two-run homerun and the lead was 8-0.  The Yankees got on the board in the ninth on a Carter RBI single to cut the lead to 8-1 and that was the final score. 

The Yankees lost two out of three in the series and went 3-4 on the road trip.  They will now head home to face the Blue Jays for three followed by an off day and the Milwaukee Brewers for three to close out the first half of the season.

New York Yankees comeback falls just short to the Texas Rangers


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Texas Rangers on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-6.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and he pitched awful.  The Yankees bullpen was good and Chase Headley had three hits and Aaron Judge had two hits to lead the offense. 

Pineda pitched four innings giving up six hits and seven runs.  He walked one and struck out four and lost his fourth game of the season.  Tyler Webb pitched an inning giving up two walks and he struck out one, Chad Green pitched two perfect innings with a couple of strikeouts and Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts. 

Nick Martinez pitched five innings giving up six hits and four runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Martinez won his third game of the season.  Ernesto Frieri pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Jose Leclerc pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and Alex Claudio pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit.  Keone Kela pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Matt Bush saved his ninth game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Aaron Hicks had a hit, Judge had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks and Gary Sanchez had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI, Headley had three hits and Tyler Austin had a hit.  Mason Williams had a hit, Ronald Torreyes had a hit and an RBI and Headley hit a double and Sanchez and Torreyes each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Headley was caught stealing. 

Delino DeShields had a hit and drew a walk, Shin-Soo Choo had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk and Elvis Andrus had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Adrian Beltre had a hit and two RBI, Roughned Odor had a hit and Jonathan Lucroy had a hit.  Drew Robinson had two hits and an RBI, DeShields and Robinson each hit a double and Beltre, Choo and Robinson each hit a homerun.  The Rangers were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Odor had a stolen base and Choo had an outfield assist. 

In the first Andrus hit an RBI single to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.  Beltre hit a two-run homerun to make it 3-0.  In the second Choo hit a three-run homerun to extend the lead to 6-0.  In the fourth Robinson hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 7-0.  In the fifth Judge hit an RBI single, Sanchez hit a three-run homerun and the lead was cut to 7-4.  In the seventh Torreyes hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 7-5 and Gregorius hit an RBI single to make it 7-6.  That was as close as the Yankees got as their comeback fell just short and they lost two out of three in the series. 

They will head to Chicago to begin a four game set on Monday night.
