The New York Mets shutout the Philadelphia Phillies behind a brilliant Jacob deGrom performance



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 5-0.  James Loney had two hits and Asdrubal Cabrera had two RBI to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched a complete game shutout for the Mets.  He gave up one hit and one walk and struck out seven to earn his sixth win of the season. 

Zach Eflin pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  He lost his third game of the season.  Daniel Stumpf pitched an inning giving up a hit, Andrew Bailey pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout and Brett Oberholtzer pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Jose Reyes had a hit and an RBI, Curtis Granderson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes drew a walk.  Loney had two hits, Cabrera had a hit and two RBI and Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI.  Rene Rivera had a hit, deGrom had a hit and Reyes hit a double.  Lagares hit a triple, Granderson and Cabrera each hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Reyes and Granderson each had a stolen base. 

Ryan Howard drew a walk and Eflin had a hit.  The Phillies left one man on base and Eflin committed an error. 

In the second Lagares hit an RBI triple to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Granderson hit a solo homerun in the third to extend the lead to 2-0.  In the fifth Reyes hit an RBI double and the lead was now 3-0 Mets.  Cabrera hit a two run homerun in the eighth to complete the scoring at 5-0. 

The Mets took two out of three in the series and will head to Chicago to take on the Cubs beginning on Monday night.
