New York Yankees clinch AL East with win over the Toronto Blue Jays

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.  The game took place in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 5-2.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  Aaron Judge in his quest for 61 walked four times, Gleyber Torres and Kyle Higashioka each had three hits. 

Taillon pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs.  He didn’t walk a batter and struck out six.  Taillon picked up his 14th win of the season.  Lou Trivino picked up his 11th save of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings and giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Jose Berrios started for the Blue Jays and he lost his seventh game of the season.  He pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and five runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Zach Pop pitched 2/3 of an inning givin gup a hit and he walked one, David Phelps pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.  Anthony Bass pitched 1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts. 

Judge drew four walks, Anthony Rizzo had two hits and an RBI and Torres had three hits and three RBI.  Oswaldo Cabrera had two hits, Higashioka had three hits and Aaron Hicks had a hit and an RBI.  Higashioka and Hicks each hit a double and the Yankees were 5-13 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Judge and Hicks each had an outfield assist. 

George Springer had two hits and an RBI, Bo Bichette had a hit and Vlad Guerrero Jr. had a hit and an RBI.  Alejandro Kirk had a hit, Raimel Tapia had a hit and Whit Merrifield had a hit.  Cavan Biggio had a hit, Bichette hit a double and Springer hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Bichette committed an error and Tapia had an outfield assist. 

In the bottom of the first Springer hit a solo homerun to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the third Rizzo hit an RBI single to tie the score at one.  Torres hit an RBI single to make it 2-1 Yankees.  In the fifth Torres hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 3-1 for the Yankees.  In the sixth Hicks hit an RBI double and it was 4-1 Yankees.  Torres hit an RBI single and the lead was extended to 5-1.  In the bottom of the sixth Guerrero Jr. hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 5-2 but that would be the final score. 

The Yankees with the win clinched the AL East.  It was their first division title since 2019 and 20th overall.  The Yankees will now play out the string and try to get Aaron Judge to break the AL record for homeruns which is 61.

New York Yankees offense shutdown in loss to the Brewers

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday night.  The game took place at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the final score was 4-1.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he pitched just ok, the bullpen was good.  The Yankees offense was very limited by Woodruff the Milwaukee pitcher. 

Taillon pitched five innings giving up four hits and four runs.  He walked two and struck out four and lost his fifth game of the season.  Greg Weissert pitched a perfect inning, Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout and Ron Marinaccio pitched an inning with a walk and three strikeouts. 

Brandon Woodruff won his 11th game of the season pitching eight inning and giving up five hits and a run with a walk and ten strikeouts.  Devin Williams pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and saved his 13th game of the season. 

Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk, Gleyber Torres had a hit and Josh Donaldson had a hit and an RBI.  Oswald Peraza had a hit, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Torres and Judge each hit a double.  Donaldson hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Peraza and Hicks each had a stolen base. 

Christian Yelich had two hits and an RBI, Willy Adames had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk and Hunter Renfroe drew a walk.  Luis Urias drew a walk, Victor Caratini drew a walk and Garrett Mitchell had a hit.  Yelich hit a double and Adames hit a homerun.  The Brewers were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Adames had a stolen base and he committed an error. 

In the bottom of the third Adames hit a three-run homerun to give the Brewers a 3-0 lead.  In the fourth Donaldson hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the fifth Yelich hit an RBI double extending the lead to 4-1.  4-1 would be the final score and the Yankees will try to salvage the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.

New York Yankees defeat the Minnesota Twins with some good offense

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the final score was 10-4.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well, the bullpen was great.  DJ LeMahieu led the offense with three hits and three other players had two hits. 

Taillon pitched four innings giving up nine hits and four runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Lucas Luetge picked up his second win of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings and giving up a hit, Wandy Peralta pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one and Ron Marinaccio pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out three. 

Cole Sands started for the Twins and he pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Sands also lost his second game of the season.  Juan Minaya pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with three walks and three strikeouts, Yennier Cano pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two walks and he struck out one and Tyler Duffey pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Trevor Megill pitched two innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout. 

LeMahieu had three hits, an RBI and drew two walks, Aaron Judge had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Anthony Rizzo had a hit and three RBI.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Josh Donaldson had a hit and drew a walk, Aaron Hicks had two hits and drew two walks and Isiah Kiner-Falefa had a hit.  Jose Trevino had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Joey Gallo had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Judge, Stanton and Rizzo each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.  Rizzo, Donaldson and Luetge each committed an error. 

Luis Arraez had two hits, Byron Buxton had a hit and Jorge Polanco had four hits and two RBI.  Max Kepler had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Gio Urshela had two hits and Gilberto Celestino had a hit.  Jermaine Palacios  had a hit and an RBI, Buxton and Polanco each hit a double and Polanco hit a homerun.  The Twins were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the first Judge hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  Stanton hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the bottom of the first Kepler hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the third Polanco hit an RBI double making it 3-2.  In the fourth Judge hit an RBI single pushing the Yankees lead to 4-2.  In the bottom of the fourth Palacios hit a sac fly cutting the lead to 4-3.  In the fifth LeMahieu drew an RBI walk making it a 5-3 game.  In the bottom of the fifth Polanco hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 5-4.  In the seventh Rizzo hit a three-run homerun extending the Yankees lead to 8-4.  In the eighth Trevino hit an RBI single and Gallo hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 10-4 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

New York Yankees win behind Aaron Judge power

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 5-4.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he pitched well and Michael King was great out of the pen.  The offense was led by Aaron Judge who had four hits. 

Taillon won his fourth game of the season pitching five innings and giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  King pitched three perfect innings with six strikeouts and Aroldis Chapman picked up his ninth save of the season pitching an inning and giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Spenser Watkins started for the Orioles and he pitched four innings giving up four hits and two runs with three walks and a strikeout.  Joey Krehbiel pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run, Dillon Tate pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with one being earned.  Tate also walked a batter and picked up his second loss of the season.  Cionel Perez pitched to one batter and struck him out and Logan Gillaspie pitched two innings giving up three hits and he struck out one. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and an RBI, Judge had four hits and three RBI and Anthony Rizzo had a hit and drew a walk.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and drew a walk, Josh Donaldson had a hit and drew a walk and Gleyber Torres had two hits.  Kyle Higashioka had a hit and drew a walk, Judge, Rizzo, Donaldson and Torres each hit a double and Judge hit two homeruns.  The Yankees were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Torres committed an error. 

Cedric Mullins had a hit and drew a walk, Trey Mancini had two hits and Roughned Odor had a hit.  Ramon Urias had a hit and two RBI, Tyler Nevin had two hits and an RBI and Robinson Chirinos had a hit.  Ryan McKenna had a hit and an RBI, Odor, Mancini and McKenna each hit a double and Urias hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Urias committed an error and Hays had an outfield assist. 

In the first Judge hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second Urias hit a solo homerun tying the game at one.  In the third Judge hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth Urias reached on an error and a run scored to tie the game at two.  Nevin hit a sac fly and the Orioles had a 3-2 lead.  In the fifth Judge hit a solo homerun to tie the game at three.  In the sixth LeMahieu hit an RBI groundout and it was 4-3 Yankees.  In the seventh Torres reached on an error and the lead was pushed to 5-3.  In the bottom of the ninth McKenna hit an RBI double cutting the lead to 5-4 and that would be the final score of the game. 

The two teams will play the third of four on Wednesday night.  They will finish the series on Thursday afternoon.

New York Yankees get past the Guardians with some Aaron Judge power

 The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night.  The game took place at 

Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-1.  Jameson Taillon started and 

pitched well but Michael King dominated out of the pen.  Aaron Judge led the offense with two 

homeruns.  


Taillon pitched five innings giving up seven hits and a run.  He walked none and struck out five and

earned his first win of the season.  King pitched three innings giving up a hit and he struck out eight.

Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out two earning his fourth save of the 

season.  


Eli Morgan started for the Guardians and he pitched three innings giving up a hit and two runs with 

two walks and five strikeouts.  Morgan lost his first game of the season.  Logan Allen pitched an inning

giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts, Tanner Tully pitched two innings giving up 

two hits and a run with a walk and Konnor Pilkington pitched two innings giving up two hits and he 

struck out two.  


DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk, Judge had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Anthony 

Rizzo had a hit.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, Josh Donaldson drew two walks and Gleyber Torres had a

hit.  Isiah Kiner-Falefa had a hit and an RBI, Judge hit two homeruns and the Yankees were 1-5 with 

runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Judge had an outfield assist.  


Steven Kwan had two hits, Franmil Reyes had a hit and an RBI and Josh Naylor had two hits.  

Amed Rosario had two hits, Bryan Lavastida had a hit and Andres Gimenez had a hit.  Kwan and 

Naylor each hit a double and Reyes hit a homerun.  The Guardians were 0-8 with runners in scoring

position and left seven men on base.  


In the bottom of the third Judge hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth 

Reyes hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 2-1.  In the bottom of the fourth Kiner-Falefa hit an 

RBI single extending the Yankees lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the fifth Judge hit a solo homerun

making it a 4-1 game and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on 

Saturday afternoon.

New York Yankees are shutout by the Toronto Blue Jays

 The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night.  The game took place 

at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-0.  Jameson Taillon started for the 

Yankees making his first start of the season and he pitched well, the bullpen used two relievers and they

looked good as well.  The offense only managed four hits and two by Joey Gallo.  

Taillon pitched five innings giving up five hits and two runs with no walks and six strikeouts.  Taillon 

 took his first loss of the season.  Michael King pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up five hits and a run with 

 three strikeouts and Ron Marinaccio pitched 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout.  


Alek Manoah started for the Blue Jays and was great pitching six innings and giving up a hit and no runs.  

He walked four and struck out seven and won his first game of the season.  Trevor Richards pitched 1/3 

of an inning giving up a hit and he walked one, Adam Cimber pitched 1 2/3 innings with a strikeout 

 and Jordan Romano earned his third save of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits with 

strikeout.  


Anthony Rizzo drew a walk, Aaron Judge drew a walk and Gallo had two hits.  Gleyber Torres had a hit.

Aaron Hicks had a hit and drew a walk, Marwin Gonzalez drew a walk and the Yankees were 0-4 with 

runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  


George Springer had three hits and three RBI, Teoscar Hernandez had three hits and Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

had a hit.  Santiago Espinal had three hits, Hernandez and Springer each hit a double and Springer hit a 

homerun.  The Blue Jays were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Espinal

had a stolen base.  


In the third inning Springer hit a two-run homerun to give the Jays a 2-0 lead.  In the seventh Springer

hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 3-0 and that would be the final score.

New York Yankees pick up first spring win over the Philadelphia Phillies

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 5-2.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and pitched well.  No player had more then a hit. 

Taillon pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Nestor Cortes pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts, Michael King pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Reggie McClain pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with one being earned and he walked a batter and struck out a batter.  Greg Weissert pitched two innings giving up two walks and he struck out one. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Joey Gallo drew a walk and Miguel Andujar had a hit.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Aaron Hicks had a hit and an RBI and Max McDowell drew a walk.  Kyle Higashioka had a hit, Andres Chaparro had a hit and drew a walk and Phillip Evans had a hit and an RBI.  Tyler Hardman drew a walk, LeMahieu, Stanton, Hicks, Evans and Chaparro each hit a double.  The Yankees were 2-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Chaparro had a stolen base.  Torrealba committed an error. 

In the bottom of the first Stanton hit a two-run double to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  Hicks hit an RBI double and it was 3-0 Yankees.  In the bottom of the fourth Evans hit an RBI double to push the Yankees lead to 4-0.  In the bottom of the sixth Evans reached on an error and the score was 5-0.  In the top of the seventh Didi Gregorius hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-1.  Adam Haseley hit an RBI single making it 5-2.  5-2 would be the final score. 

The Yankees picked up their first spring victory of the season and they will play the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday afternoon.

New York Yankees erupt late to bury the Baltimore Orioles

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 10-3.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  DJ LeMahieu led the offense with three hits and four RBI. 

Taillon pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up four hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out ten.  Jonathan Loaisiga won his eighth game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Clay Holmes pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Albert Abreu pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Matt Harvey started for the Orioles and he pitched four innings giving up three hits and two runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Cesar Valdez pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run, Cole Sulser pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and he lost his second game of the season.  Paul Fry pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk, Dillon Tate pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Dusten Knight pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout. 

LeMahieu had three hits and four RBI, Anthony Rizzo had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Joey Gallo drew a walk, Giancarlo Stanton had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Gleyber Torres had two hits and two RBI.  Kyle Higashioka had a hit and drew a walk, Jonathan Davis had a hit and Gary Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk.  Higashioka, Stanton, Torres and LeMahieu each hit a double.  Rizzo hit a homerun and the Yankees were 6-14 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Gallo committed an error and Judge had an outfield assist. 

Cedric Mullins had two hits, Ramon Urias had a hit and Ryan Mountcastle had a hit and two RBI.  Austin Hays had a hit and an RBI, DJ Stewart drew a walk and Pedro Severino had a hit.  Mountcastle hit a homerun and the Orioles were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Hays had a stolen base. 

In the first Mountcatle hit a sac fly to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  Hays hit an RBI single making it 2-0.  In the fourth Mountcastle hit a solo homerun pushing the Orioles lead to 3-0.  In the bottom of the fourth Rizzo hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 3-1.  Torres hit an RBI single and it was a 3-2 game.  In the bottom of the fifth LeMahieu hit an RBI single tying the game at three.  In the bottom of the seventh LeMahieu hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 4-3 lead.  Stanton hit a three-run double and it was 7-3.  Torres hit an RBI double and the lead was pushed to 8-3.  In the bottom of the eighth LeMahieu hit a two-run double extending the lead to 10-3 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees took two out of three in the series and will now remain at home to begin a four-game series with the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night.

New York Yankees defeat the Miami Marlins

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Miami Marlins on Friday night.  The game took place at Loan Depot Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 3-1.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he pitched very well, the bullpen did a good job also.  Anthony Rizzo had two hits to lead the offense in his first game as a Yankee. 

Taillon pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and no runs.  He walked two and struck out five and won his seventh game of the season.  Jonathan Loaisiga pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two, Zack Britton pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and earned his 21st save of the season. 

Zach Thompson started for the Marlins and he pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with four walks and five strikeouts.  Thompson lost his fourth game of the season.  Ross Detwiler pitched to one batter and struck him out, Anthony Bender pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two and Richard Bleier pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a strikeout.  Zach Pop pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and Austin Pruitt pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

DJ LeMahiue had a hit, Joey Gallo drew a walk and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Rizzo had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Gio Urshela had a hit and Roughned Odor had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Tyler Wade had a hit and drew a walk, Taillon drew a walk and Rizzo hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Wade was caught stealing and Odor committed an error. 

Magneuris Sierra had two hits and drew a walk, Miguel Rojas had a hit and Jazz Chisholm Jr. had two hits.  Jesus Aguilar had a hit, Brian Anderson had a hit and drew a walk and Brian Miller had a hit.  The Marlins were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the sixth Rizzo hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the eighth Odor hit a two-run single to push the Yankees lead to 3-0.  In the bottom of the eighth Anderson hit into a double play and a run scored to cut the lead to 3-1 and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.

New York Yankees romp the Seattle Mariners

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night.  The game took place at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington and the final score was 12-1.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he pitched very well.  Luke Voit had five hits to pace the offense and DJ LeMahieu added three hits. 

Taillon pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and nine strikeouts.  Taillon earned his fourth win of the season.  Wandy Peralta pitched an inning with a walk and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit and two walks with three strikeouts. 

Justus Sheffield started for the Mariners and he pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up five hits and six runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  Sheffield took his eighth loss of the season.  Hector Santiago pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Will Vest pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out three and Rafael Montero pitched two innings giving up five hits and three runs with a strikeout. 

LeMahieu had three hits and an RBI, Aaron Judge had two hits and an RBI and Gary Sanchez drew two walks.  Giancarlo Stanton had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk, Voit had five hits and three RBI and Gio Urshela had a hit.  Roughned Odor had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk, Miguel Andujar had two hits and Tim Locastro had a hit and drew a walk.  Judge and Voit each hit a double and Stanton and Odor each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 7-15 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Judge had a stolen base. 

J.P. Crawford drew a walk, Mitch Haniger had a hit and Kyle Seager had a hit.  Ty France had two hits and an RBI, Luis Torrens drew a walk and Dylan Moore drew a walk.  Shed Long Jr. had a hit and drew a walk.  The Mariners were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

In the first Stanton hit a three-run homerun to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead.  In the second Sanchez drew an RBI walk to extend the lead to 4-0.  Voit hit a two-run single and it was 6-0.  In the third LeMahieu hit an RBI single to push the lead to 7-0.  Judge hit an RBI double and it was 8-0 Yankees.  In the fifth Voit hit an RBI single extending the lead to 9-0.  In the bottom of the sixth the Mariners finally got on the board with a France RBI single.  In the eighth Odor hit a three-run homerun pushing the lead to 12-1.  12-1 would be the final score.  The Yankees have now won two in a row and will play game two of the three game series on Wednesday night.

Yankees rally only to fall in extra innings to the Philadelphia Phillies

 The New York Yankees were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday afternoon.  The game took

place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 8-7 in ten innings.  

Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he was terrible only recording one out in the game.  The 

bullpen pitched well and DJ LeMahieu, Gary Sanchez and Roughned Odor each had two hits to lead the

offense.  

Taillon pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up five hits and four runs with a walk.  Nestor Cortes pitched 3 2/3

innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and six strikeouts.  Luis Cessa pitched an inning giving

up three hits and two runs with a walk, Wandy Peralta pitched an inning with a walk and Zack Britton 

pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Chad Green pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk

with a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman lost his second game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning

and giving up a hit and an unearned run.  

Vince Velasquez started for the Phillies and he pitched five innings giving up six hits and two runs

with a walk and five strikeouts.  Sam Coonrod pitched two innings and he gave up a hit and a run with a

walk and two strikeouts, Ranger Suarez pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run and Hector Neris

pitched an inning giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Archie Bradley

pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and he earned his second win of the season.  

LeMahieu had two hits and three RBI, Aaron Judge had a hit and Sanchez had two hits and two RBI.  

Odor had two hits and an RBI, Miguel Andujar had a hit and Brett Gardner had two hits, an RBI and 

drew two walks.  Chris Gittens drew a walk, Tyler Wade drew a walk and LeMahieu hit a double.  

Gardner hit a triple and Sanchez, Odor and LeMahieu each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-12 with

runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Chapman committed an error.  

Odubel Herrera had two hits, Jean Segura had three hits and two RBI and JT Realmuto had a hit and 

drew a walk.  Bryce Harper had three hits and two RBI, Rhys Hoskins drew three walks and Andrew

McCutchen had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Alec Bohm had two hits and two RBI, Ronald Torreyes

had two hits and an RBI and Herrera, Torreyes and Harper each hit a double.  The Phillies were 

8-19 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  

In the first Harper hit a two-run single, McCutchen hit a sac fly and Bohm hit an RBI single to give

the Phillies a 4-0 lead.  In the second Sanchez hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 4-1.  Gardner hit

a triple to make it a 4-2 game.  In the bottom of the fourth Segura hit an RBI single pushing the lead

to 5-2.  In the bottom of the fifth Bohm hit an RBI single and Torreyes hit an RBI double pushing the 

lead to 7-2.  In the sixth Odor hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 7-3.  In the eighth Sanchez hit an 

RBI single making it 7-4.  In the ninth inning LeMahieu hit a three-run homerun tying the game at

seven.  In the bottom of the tenth Segura hit an RBI walk-off single to give the Phillies an 8-7 victory.  

The two teams will play game two of two on Sunday afternoon.

New York Yankees defeat the Texas Rangers

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas and the final score was 7-4.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  The bullpen was good and Aaron Judge, Roughned Odor, Miguel Andujar and Mike Ford each had two hits. 

Taillon pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs.  He walked two and struck out three.  Wandy Peralta earned his third win of the season pitching an inning with a walk and a strikeout, Jonathan Loaisiga pitched 1 2/3 innings with a strikeout and Chad Green pitched a perfect inning.  Aroldis Chapman picked up his tenth save of the season.  He pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out the side. 

Mike Foltynewicz started for the Rangers and he pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs.  He walked one and struck out one and lost his fourth game of the season.  Kolby Allard pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Hunter Wood pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts and Brett de Geus pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout.  Brett Martin pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and three RBI, Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk and Judge had two hits.  Gio Urshela had a hit and two RBI, Odor had two hits and Gary Sanchez had a hit and an RBI.  Kyle Higashioka had a hit, Andujar had two hits and an RBI and Ford had two hits and drew a walk.  Ryan LaMarre drew a walk, Urshela, Sanchez, LeMahieu and Odor each hit a double.  The Yankees were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Willie Calhoun had a hit, Nick Solak had two hits and two RBI and Nate Lowe drew two walks.  Joey Gallo drew a walk, Adolis Garcia had a hit and two RBI and David Dahl had a hit.  Andy Ibanez had a hit, Jonah Heim had a hit and Calhoun, Heim and Ibanez each hit a double.  Solak hit a homerun and the Rangers were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Garcia had a stolen base. 

In the third Solak hit an RBI single, Garcia hit a two-run single and it was 3-0 Rangers.  In the fourth Urshela hit an RBI double, Sanchez hit an RBI double, Andujar hit an RBI single and LeMahieu hit a two-run double giving the Yankees a 5-3 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Solak hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 5-4.  In the sixth LeMahieu hit a sac fly to push the Yankees lead to 6-4 and in the ninth Urshela hit an RBI groundout extending the lead to 7-4 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game three of four on Wednesday night with each team having one a game.

New York Yankees win second straight over the Detroit Tigers

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-4.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Aaron Judge had three hits and three RBI to lead the offense and Gleyber Torres added two hits and three RBI. 

Taillon pitched five innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and eight strikeouts.  He won his first game of the season and first game in exactly two years.  Jonathan Loaisiga pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk, Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two walks and a strikeout and Chad Green pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts.  Aroldis Chapman earned his fifth save of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts.   

Spencer Turnbull started for the Tigers and he pitched five innings giving up five hits and four runs with three walks and a strikeout.  He lost his second game of the season.  Jose Cisnero pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two walks and a strikeout, Alex Lange pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Derek Holland pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout. 

DJ LeMahieu had two hits and drew a walk, Judge had three hits and three RBI and Roughned Odor drew a walk.  Torres had two hits and three RBI, Mike Ford drew a walk and Aaron Hicks had a hit.  Gary Sanchez drew a walk, Clint Frazier drew a walk and Brett Gardner drew a walk.  Judge hit a double and the Yankees were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  LeMahieu had a stolen base and Frazier committed an error.  Sanchez had a passed ball. 

Robbie Grossman drew two walks, Willi Castro drew a walk and Jonathan Schoop had a hit and two RBI.  Jeimer Candelario had three hits and an RBI, Akil Baddoo drew a walk and Niko Goodrum had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Jacoby Jones had a hit and drew a walk, Candelario and Goodrum each hit a homerun and the Tigers were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Goodrum and Baddoo each had a stolen base.  Castro and Greiner each committed an error.  In the third Torres hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Candelario hit a solo homerun tying the game at one.  In the bottom of the fifth Judge hit an RBI double giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth Judge hit a two-run single to push the Yankees lead to 4-1.  Torres hit a two-run single making it 6-1 Yankees.  In the seventh Schoop hit a two-run single to make it a 6-3 game.  Goodrum hit a solo homerun in the eighth and the game ended at 6-4 Yankees. 

The Yankees will go for the three-game sweep on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Yankees can't complete the sweep of the Cleveland Indians

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 7-3.  Jameson Taillon started and he pitched well in the beginning but had one bad inning.  The bullpen wasn’t good and the offense only produced six hits, with no one having more than a hit. 

Taillon pitched four innings giving up five hits and four runs with six strikeouts.  He took his second loss of the season.  Nick Nelson pitched two innings giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts and Luis Cessa pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts. 

Triston McKenzie started for the Indians and he pitched four innings giving up four hits and three runs with four walks and five strikeouts.  Sam Hentges pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out one and he won his first game of the season.  Cal Quantrill pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk, James Karinchak pitched a perfect inning striking out the side and Emmanuel Clase pitched a perfect inning. 

Clint Frazier drew a walk, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Roughned Odor drew a walk, Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew a walk and Gio Urshela had a hit and two RBI.  Mike Ford had a  hit and an RBI, Gary Sanchez drew a walk and Mike Tauchman had a hit and drew a walk.  Tauchman hit a double and Urshela and Ford each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

Cesar Hernandez had two hits, Jose Ramirez had a hit and an RBI and Eddie Rosario had a hit and an RBI.  Franmil Reyes had three hits and three RBI, Jordan Luplow had a hit and an RBI and Austin Hedges had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Luplow hit a double and F. Reyes hit a triple and a homerun.  The Indians were 5-9 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  F. Reyes had a stolen base and Naylor committed an error. 

In the fourth Urshela hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  Ford hit a solo homerun to go back-to-back and make it 3-0.  In the bottom of the fourth Rosario hit an RBI single, Reyes hit a three-run homerun and the Indians grabbed a 4-3 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Ramirez hit a sac fly pushing the lead to 5-3.  In the bottom of the sixth Luplow hit an RBI double and Hedges an RBI single making it a 7-3 game and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees took three of four in the series and will head to Baltimore to begin a four-game series on Monday night.

New York Yankees hold off the Atlanta Braves to break losing streak

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-1.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The Yankees bullpen was great and the offense showed a little life late but still only managed five hits. 

Taillon pitched five innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts.  Lucas Luetge pitched an inning giving up two walks, Chad Green pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he struck out two and Justin Wilson pitched to one batter and got him out.  Jonathan Loaisiga won his second game of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Aroldis Chapman earned his second save of the season pitching an inning with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Charlie Morton started for the Braves and he pitched six innings giving up three hits and a run with two walks and six strikeouts.  A.J. Minter pitched a perfect inning, Tyler Matzek pitched giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and he took his second loss of the season and Nate Jones pitched an inning giving up two walks. 

DJ LeMahieu had two hits, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk and Giancarlo Stanton drew two walks.  Mike Ford had an RBI and drew a walk, Gio Urshela had two hits and an RBI and Aaron Hicks drew a pinch-hit walk.  Urshela hit a double and a homerun.   The Yankees were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Ehire Adrianza had a hit and an RBI, Freddie Freeman had a hit and Travis d’Arnaud drew a walk.  Ozzie Albies drew a walk, Pablo Sandoval had a hit and drew a walk and Austin Riley had a hit and drew a walk.  Guillermo Heredia had two hits including a double and Adrianza hit a double.  The Braves were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

In the third Adrianza hit an RBI double to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Urshela hit a solo homerun tying the game at one.  In the eighth a wild pitch brought home a run for the Yankees to make it 2-1 and then Ford drew an RBI walk to push the lead to 3-1.  3-1 was the final score as the Yankees finally ended their five-game losing streak.  The two teams will play game two and the final game of the series on Wednesday night.

New York Yankees late rally falls short in loss to the Jays

 

The New York Yankees lost to the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at TD Ballpark in Dunedin, Florida and the final score was 7-3.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  The Yankees offense was led by Aaron Hicks who had three hits and DJ LeMahieu added two hits. 

Taillon pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and five runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  He took his first loss of the season.  Lucas Luetge pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with three strikeouts, Luis Cessa pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Albert Abreu pitched an inning giving up a run and two walks with a strikeout. 

Hyun Jin Ryu started for the Blue Jays and he pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up four hits and an unearned run.  He walked one and struck out seven and earned his first win of the season.  David Phelps pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run, Jordan Romano pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Julian Merryweather pitched to one batter and got him out.  Tim Mayza pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

LeMahieu had two hits and drew a walk, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and two RBI and Gary Sanchez drew a walk.  Hicks had three hits, Roughned Odor had an RBI and Clint Frazier had a hit.  Jay Bruce had a hit which was a double, Hicks and LeMahieu each hit a double.  The Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Urshela committed an error. 

Marcus Semien had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Bo Bichette had two hits and an RBI and Vlad Guerrero Jr. had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Randal Grichuk had a hit and an RBI, Cavan Biggio had two hits and Rowdy Tellez had a hit and an RBI.  Danny Jansen drew a walk, Josh Palacios had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Bichette and Guerrero Jr. each hit a double and Semien and Tellez each hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Biggio committed an error. 

In the second Palacios hit a two-run single giving the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead.  In the third Grichuk hit a sac fly pushing the lead to 3-0.  In the bottom of the fourth Semien hit a solo homerun extending the Blue Jays lead to 4-0.  Guerrero Jr. hit an RBI double and it was 5-0.  In the bottom of the fifth Tellez hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 6-0.  In the seventh Odor hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 6-1.  In the eighth Stanton hit a two-run single making it a 6-3 game.  The Yankees had two men on and two outs with Hicks up and ran themselves out of an inning.  In the bottom of the eighth Bichette hit a sac fly making it 7-3 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game on Wednesday afternoon.  The Yankees will then have an off day on Thursday before returning home on Friday to begin a three game set with the Tampa Bay Rays.

New York Yankees drop a close one in extras to the Baltimore Orioles

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3 in 11 innings.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The bullpen looked good as well, the offense not so good.  DJ LeMahieu, Giancarlo Stanton, Gary Sanchez, Gio Urshela and Brett Gardner each had two hits. 

Taillon pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with no walks and seven strikeouts.  Nick Nelson pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out two, Darren O’Day pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jonathan Loaisiga pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect inning striking out the side, Chad Green pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two unearned runs.  The reason they are unearned is because the runner starts at second in extra innings.  I hate this rule and not just because they lost, I just don’t think it is baseball but it seems here to stay.  Green walked one and struck out one and took his first loss of the season.  Luis Cessa pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and striking out two. 

John Means started for the Orioles and he pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and a run with two walks and four strikeouts.  Dillon Tate pitched an inning giving up a hit, Tanner Scott pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out three, Shawn Armstrong pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run and Cesar Valdez pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits and an unearned run with three strikeouts.  Valdez earned his first win of the season.  Paul Fry pitched a perfect inning and picked up his first save of the season. 

LeMahieu had two hits, Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew a walk and Aaron Hicks had a hit and an RBI.  Stanton had two hits, Sanchez had two hits and drew a walk and Kyle Higashioka had a hit and an RBI.  Urshela had two hits and an RBI, Gardner had two hits and Sanchez and Urshela each hit a double.  The Yankees were 3-14 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Torres committed an error. 

Cedric Mullins had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Trey Mancini drew a walk and Anthony Santander had a hit and an RBI.  Rio Ruiz had a hit, Chance Sisco had a hit and an RBI and Mullins and Santander each hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Santander had an outfield assist. 

In the bottom of the third Hicks hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Mullins hit a solo homerun and Santander hit a solo homerun giving the Orioles a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the eighth Urshela hit an RBI double tying the game at two.  In the tenth Severino reached on a throwing error by Torres and a run scored to give the Orioles a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the tenth Higashioka hit an RBI single to tie the game at three.  In the eleventh Sisco hit an RBI single to give the Orioles a 4-3 lead and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees took two out of three in the series and their record is now 3-3.  They will have an off day on Thursday before beginning a three-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays in Tampa on Friday afternoon.

New York Yankees defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates with a late onslaught


The New York Yankees defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the final score was 11-5.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and he pitched ok, the bullpen was pretty much outstanding.  Ronald Torreyes led the offense with four hits but Starlin Castro and Chris Carter each hit huge homeruns. 

Pineda pitched five innings giving up five hits and three runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Jonathan Holder pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout, Tyler Clippard pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Dellin Betances picked up his second win of the season pitching to two batters and retired them both.  Bryan Mitchell pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning with a walk and he struck out one.

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Aaron Hicks had a hit and drew two walks and Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI.  Castro had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had two hits and an RBI and Austin Romine had two hits.  Torreyes had four hits and two RBI, Carter had a hit and three RBI and Judge, Torreyes, Hicks and Headley each hit a double.  Castro, Carter and Judge each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 5-11 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Hicks had a stolen base. 

Adam Frazier had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Josh Bell had a hit and drew a walk and Andrew McCutchen had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks.  David Freese had a hit and an RBI, Francisco Cervelli had a hit and Jordy Mercer had a hit and an RBI.  Taillon had a hit, Cervelli hit a double and McCutchen and Freese each hit a homerun.  The Pirates were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  McCutchen had a stolen base, Frazier and McCutchen each committed an error. 

McCutchen hit a solo homerun in the first to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Freese hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0.  In the fifth McCutchen hit a sac fly and it was 3-0 Pirates.  Castro hit a three-run homerun in the sixth to tie the game at three.  Torreyes hit a two-run double and the Yankees had a 5-3 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth Mercer hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-4.  Frazier hit an RBI single to tie the game at five.  In the eighth Carter hit a three-run homerun to give the Yankees an 8-5 lead, a wild pitch made it 9-5 and Headley hit an RBI double to make it a 10-5 game.  Judge hit a solo homerun in the ninth to make it an 11-5 game and that would be the final score.   

The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Sunday afternoon.  The Yankees will have off on Monday and then head to Boston for a three game series beginning on Tuesday night.
