The New York Yankees lose to the Boston Red Sox and will have to wait to clinch a postseason spot



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-1 Red Sox.  Ivan Nova started and pitched good for five innings and then gave up a couple of homeruns in the sixth and seventh.  John Ryan Murphy had two hits and although the offense had lots of guys on base they didn't do anything with it. 

Nova pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and four runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Nova lost his 10th game of the season.  Andrew Bailey pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Chris Capuano pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out two and Caleb Cotham pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run.  James Pazos walked his only batter and Nick Rumbelow pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit. 

Eduardo Rodriguez won his 10th game of the season pitching six innings and giving up seven hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts.  Heath Hembree pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Noe Ramirez pitched 2/3 of an inning and Matt Barnes pitched a perfect inning.  Robbie Ross Jr. pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and a walk, Brett Gardner had a hit and Alex Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI.  Carlos Beltran had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and Greg Bird had a hit.  Murphy had two hits, Didi Gregorius drew a walk and Rob Refsnyder had a hit.  Ellsbury and Murphy each hit a double and the Yankees were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. 

Mookie Betts had two hits, Dustin Pedroia drew a walk and Xander Bogaerts had two hits.  Travis Shaw had three hits and two RBI, Blake Swihart had a hit and Deven Marrero had a hit and an RBI.  Jackie Bradley Jr. had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks.  Betts hit two doubles, Bogaerts hit a double and Shaw, Bradley and Marrero each hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Bogaerts was caught stealing and Pedroia committed an error. 

In the first Rodriguez hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Shaw hit a two run homerun to give the Red Sox a 2-1 lead.  In the seventh Bradley Jr. hit a two run homerun to extend the Red Sox lead to 4-1 and in the ninth Marrero hit a solo homerun to make it 5-1 which would be the final score.

The New York Yankees rally to beat the Baltimore Orioles



The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-5.  Michael Pineda started and he had one bad inning early and then settled down.  Alex Rodriguez, John Ryan Murphy and Greg Bird each hit a homerun. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up six hits and four runs.  He walked two and struck out five.  Justin Wilson pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and he picked up the victory.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning walking three and striking out three and Andrew Miller pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  Miller picked up his 32nd save of the season. 

Wei-Yin Chen pitched five innings giving up nine hits and five runs with four of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out five.  Jorge Rondon lost his first game of the season pitching an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk, Brian Matusz pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Zach Britton pitched an inning striking out two. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI.  Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew a walk, Chris Young had three hits and two RBI and Bird had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk.  Murphy had two hits and two RBI, Didi Gregorius had  a hit and Jose Pirela had a hit.   Young hit a double and Rodriguez, Murphy and Bird each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Manny Machado had two hits and two RBI, Gerardo Parra had a hit and Steve Pearce drew a walk.  Chris Davis had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Jimmy Paredes had a hit and drew a walk and Jonathan Schoop had a hit and three RBI.  Nolan Reimold had a hit and drew a walk, Ryan Flaherty had a hit and drew a walk and Parra hit a double.  Schoop and Machado each hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Flaherty committed an error. 
In the first Young hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Schoop hit a three run

homerun to give the Orioles a 3-1 lead.  Machado hit an RBI single and it was 4-1 Orioles.  In the third Young

hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 4-2.  In the fifth Rodriguez hit a solo homerun to cut the lead down to 4-3

and then Murphy hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 5-4 lead.  In the seventh Machado hit a solo

homerun to tie the game at five.  Bird hit a three run homerun in the bottom of the seventh to give the

Yankees an 8-5 lead.  In the ninth Davis hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 8-6 but that would be the final

score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.

The New York Yankees defeat the Minnesota Twins with a great comeback



The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins on Saturday night.  The game took place at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the final score was 8-5.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and wasn't very good.  Adam Warren was great out of the pen.  Alex Rodriguez led the offense with three homeruns and John Ryan Murphy hit the game winning homerun. 

Sabathia pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  Warren won his sixth game of the season pitching 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Andrew Miller saved his 23rd game of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Tommy Milone pitched six innings giving up four hits and four runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Brian Duensing pitched a pefect inning, Trevor May pitched an inning giving ujp a hit and he struck out one and Glen Perkins pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up five hits and four runs.  Perkins blew his second save of the season and took his second  loss of the season.  Ryan O'Rourke retired the only batter that he faced. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Chris Young had a hit and drew a walk and Rodriguez had three hits and four RBI.  Mark Teixeira had two hits, Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI and Murphy had a hit and three RBI.  Stephen Drew had a hit, Young and Teixeira each hit a double and Rodriguez hit three homeruns.  Murphy hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Drew committed an error. 

Brian Dozier had a hit and drew two walks, Aaron Hicks had two hits and two RBI and Miguel Sano had a hit and drew a walk.  Torii Hunter had a hit and three RBI, Shane Robinson had a hit and Kurt Suzuki had a hit and drew a walk.  Hicks and Hunter each hit a homerun and the Twins were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  May committed an error. 

In the first Hicks hit a two run homerun to give the Twins a 2-0 lead.  In the third Hunter hit a three run homerun and it was 5-0 Twins.  Rodriguez hit a solo homerun in the fourth to make it 5-1 and in the seventh he hit a two run homerun to make it 5-3 Twins.  Headley hit a sac fly in the seventh to make it a 5-4 game.  In the ninth Rodriguez hit his third homerun of the game a solo shot to tie the game at five.  Murphy hit a three run homerun to make it 8-5 and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play the rubber game on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Yankees sweep the Baltimore Orioles



The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-3.  Masahiro Tanaka started and pitched well.  Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits, Didi Gregorius and John Ryan Murphy also had three hits to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up three runs on five hits.  He didn't walk a batter and he struck otu seven and earned his seventh win of the season.  Chris Capuano pitched an inning with a strikeout and Branden Pinder retired the only batter that he faced. 

Ubaldo Jimenez lost his sixth game of the season pitching 2 1/3 innings and giving up eight hits and seven runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  Tommy Hunter pitched 1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts, Bud Norris pitched two innings giving up four hits and two runs with two strikeouts and Chaz Roe pitched an inning giving up a hit.  Zach Britton pitched a perfect inning. 

Ellsbury had three hits and four RBI, Brett Gardner drew a walk and Ale Rodriguez drew a walk.  Mark Teixeira drew a walk, Carlos Beltran had a hit and Chase Headley had two hits and three RBI.  Gregorius had three hits and an RBI, Murphy had three hits and Stephen Drew had a hit and an RBI.  Headley, Drew and Ellsbury each hit a double and Ellsbury hit a homerun.  The Yankees were4-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Manny Machado had a hit and an RBI, Jimmy Paredes had a hit and Chris Davis had two hits and an RBI.  J.J. Hardy had a hit and an RBI, Davis and Paredes each hit a double and Davis, Hardy and Machado each hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. 

In the first Headley hit a three run double giving the Yankees a 3-0 lead.  Gregorius hit an RBI single to make it 4-0 Yankees.  In the second Davis hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-1.  Ellsbury hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the second to increase the lead to 5-1 Yankees.  In the third Drew hit an RBI double to make it a 6-1 game.  Ellsbury hit a sac fly and it was 7-1 Yankees.  In the fifth Ellsbury hit a two run double to make it a 9-1 game.  In the eighth Hardy and Machado each hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 9-3 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees swept the three game series to stretch their lead in the AL East over the Orioles to seven games.  The Yankees will now head out on a ten game road trip through Minnesota, Texas and Chicago.

The New York Yankees avoid the sweep with win over the Baltimore Orioles



The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 5-3.  Adam Warren started and had a rough first inning and didn't last long in the game.  The bullpen was great and John Ryan Murphy had three hits. 

Warren pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with three walks and five strikeouts.  Chasen Shreve won his third game of the season and pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and a strikeout, Justin Wilson pitched two innings striking out three and Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a walk and a strikeout saving his third game of the season. 

Mike Wright pitched four innings giving up six hits and five runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  He lost his second game of the season.  Brian Matusz pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with four strikeouts and Tyler Wilson pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk and Alex Rodriguez drew a walk.  Mark Teixeira had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Garrett Jones had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Stephen Drew had two hits.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Murphy had three hits and two RBI and Teixeira, Murphy and Drew each hit a double.  The Yankees were 2-12 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. 

Manny Machado had a hit and drew two walks, Jimmy Paredes had a hit and Adam Jones had a hit.  Chris Davis drew two walks, Nick Reimold had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and J.J. Hardy had a hit.  Corban Joseph had a hit and an RBI, Joseph hit a double and the Orioles were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

In the first Teixeira hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Reimold hit a two run single to give the Orioles a 2-1 lead.  In the second Gardner hit a sac fly to tie the game at two.  In the fourth Joseph hit an RBI double to give the Orioles a 3-2 lead.  Jones had an RBI walk in the fifth to tie the game at three and Murphy hit a two run double giving the Yankees a 5-3 lead.  The final score was 5-3.  The Yankees salvaged the final game of a three game series and will head to Miami for the first of two before returning home to play Miami two games.

The New York Yankees end the road trip with a win in St. Louis



The New York Yankees defeated the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri and the final score was 7-4.  Hiroki Kuroda started and pitched ok, the bullpen was ok.  Jacoby Ellsbury led the offense with three hits.  John Ryan Murphy had a couple of RBI. 

Kuroda pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and three runs.  He walked none and struck out three and won his fourth game of the season.  Matt Thornton faced one batter and gave up a hit, Dellin Betances faced one batter and retired him and Adam Warren pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk.  David Robertson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with four strikeouts. 

Shelby Miller lost his fourth game of the season pitching five innings and giving up nine hits and seven runs.  He walked two and struck out one.  Sam Freeman pitched an inning walking one, Seth Maness pitched an inning giving up two hits and striking out one and Randy Choate pitched an inning striking out one.  Jason Motte pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Brian Roberts had two hits and drew a walk and Ellsbury had three hits and three RBI.  Brian McCann had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Murphy had a hit and two RBI and Ichiro Suzuki had an RBI.  Brendan Ryan had two hits, Kelly Johnson had two hits and Roberts hit a double.  The Yankees were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.   Ellsbury had two stolen bases and Ryan committed an error. 

Matt Carpenter had two hits and an RBI, Kolten Wong had four hits and an RBI and Matt Holliday had a hit.  Allen Craig had a hit and an RBI, Yadier Molina had two hits and drew two walks and John Jay had a hit.  Daniel Descalso had two hits and an RBI, Molina, Wong each hit a double and Carpenter hit two doubles.  The Cardinals were 3-15 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.  Maness committed an error. 

In the third Ellsbury hit an RBI single, Murphy hit a two run single and Suzuki hit an RBI groundout to give the Yankees a 4-0 lead.  In the fourth Ellsbury hit a two run single and McCann had an RBI single to give the Yankees a 7-0 lead.  Descalso hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 7-1 game.  Craig hit an RBI groundout in the fifth to cut the lead to 7-2.  In the bottom of the sixth Carpenter hit an RBI double to make it a 7-3 game.  Wong hit an RBI single in the eighth to make it a 7-4 game and that was the final score.  The Yankees won two out of three in the series and were 5-4 on the road trip.  They will have a day off on Thursday before opening a three game weekend series against the Minnesota Twins.

The New York Yankees hold off the Anaheim Angels



The New York Yankees defeated the Anaheim Angels on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3.  Vidal Nuno was ok but not great and the bullpen was excellent.  John Ryan Murphy led the offense with a couple of hits including his first major league homerun. 

Nuno pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up three runs on five hits.  He walked two and struck out four.  Dellin Betances got his first major league win pitching two innings.  He gave up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts, Shawn Kelley pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout and Matt Thornton pitched to one batter and retired him.  David Robertson earned his third save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit with two strikeouts. 

Hector Santiago took the loss his fourth of the season.  He pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Kevin Jepsen pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one, Nick Maronde pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and had a strikeout and Michael Kohn pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out one.  Ernesto Frieri pitched a perfect inning.   

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Derek Jeter had a hit and Alfonso Soriano had a hit.  Brett Gardner had two hits, Brian Roberts drew a walk and Murphy had two hits and three RBI.  Murphy hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base and Roberts committed an error. 

Collin Cowgill had a hit, Mike Trout had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks and Albert Pujols had two hits.  Howie Kendrick drew a walk, Chris Iannetta had two hits and an RBI and Ian Stewart had  a hit and drew a walk.  David Freese had a hit, Iannetta hit a double, Trout hit a homerun and the Angels were 2-14 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Trout had a stolen base. 

In the first inning Trout hit a solo homerun to give the Angels a 1-0 lead.  In the second Teixeira scored on a balk and then Murphy hit a two run single to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead.  In the fourth the Angels came back to tie the game at three.  Erick Aybar grounded into a force out which scored a run and Iannetta hit an RBI double.  In the fifth Murphy hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play the rubber game of their three game series on Sunday night.

New York Yankees win exhibition opener 8-3 over Florida State University


The New York Yankees defeated the Florida State Seminoles on Tuesday afternoon. The final score was 8-3 and the game took place at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida. Vidal Nuno started the game for the Yankees and threw two scoreless innings. The only Yankees regulars who played were Brett Gardner, Francisco Cervelli and Kelly Johnson. The players who had the best days were John Ryan Murphy. He used to be J.R. Murphy but now goes by the name of John Ryan. He had two doubles and an RBI. Jose Gil and Ramon Flores each had two hits also. Flores hit the first homerun of the spring for the Yankees. Brendan Ryan had a hit and an RBI, Dean Anna had a hit and Yangervis had a hit and an RBI. Corban Joseph had a hit and an RBI, Gary Sanchez had an RBI and Zoilo Almonte had a hit.

Nuno got the win pitching two scoreless and giving up a hit. He walked none and struck out three. Nuno kicked off the fifth starter derby and David Phelps and Adam Warren will get their turns in the next couple of days. Nuno was in a no-win situation here, if college kids hit him around it wouldn’t look good and if he did well he is supposed too. He did well and that is better then not pitching well. Brian Gordon pitched two innings giving up four hits and no runs with a strikeout. Shane Greene pitched two innings giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout. Bryan Mitchell pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts and Francisco Rondon pitched an inning giving up a hit with two strikeouts.

Ryan hit an RBI double in the second to make it 1-0 Yankees. In the third Sanchez hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 Yankees. Solarte hit an RBI single, Murphy hit an RBI double and a wild pitch scored another run. The Yankees had a 5-0 lead. Florida State scored three runs in the top of the sixth to make it a game at 5-3 but then the Yankees pulled away again. The Yankees scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth on a Corban Joseph RBI single and an error scored another run. In the eighth the Yankees added a final run to make it 8-3 and that was the final score.

The Yankees will head to Bradenton to open the grapefruit league schedule on Wednesday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Ivan Nova will get the start and Dellin Betances, Cesar Cabral, Bruce Billings, Preston Claiborne, Matt Daley, Chris Leroux, Jose Ramirez and Chase Whitley are listed as relievers. The Yankees will look to win their second in a row before returning home on Thursday for the first televised game of the spring. Thursday will also mark the debut of Derek Jeter in his final season.
