New York Yankees defeat the San Francisco Giants for second straight win


The New York Yankees defeated the San Francisco Giants on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California and the final score was 6-4.  J.A. Happ started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  Gio Urshela led the Yankees offense with three hits and Gary Sanchez hit a grand slam. 

Happ pitched seven innings giving up five hits and no runs.  He walked none and struck out two and won his first game of the season.  Luis Cessa pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with two strikeouts and Aroldis Chapman saved his fifth game of the season pitching to one batter and striking him out. 

Derek Holland pitched five innings giving up six hits and six runs with three walks and six strikeouts.  Holland lost his fourth game of the season.  Trevor Gott pitched two innings and he had a strikeout and Travis Bergen pitched two innings giving up two hits and he walked two and struck out one. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Luke Voit had an RBI and Sanchez had a hit and four RBI.  Gleyber Torres had a hit, Urshela had three hits and Brett Gardner drew a walk.  Cameron Maybin had a hit and drew two walks, Thairo Estrada had a hit and Urshela and Torres each hit a double.  Sanchez hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  LeMahieu had a stolen base. 

Tyler Austin had a hit, Brandon Belt had a hit and Buster Posey had two hits.  Yangervis Solarte had two hits and three RBI, Brandon Crawford had a hit and Gerardo Parra had a hit.  Erik Kratz had a hit and an RBI, Solarte and Kratz each hit a homerun.  The Giants were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Austin had an outfield assist. 

In the third LeMahieu hit an RBI single to give the Giants a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Voit was hit by a pitch and the Yankees grabbed a 2-0 lead.  Sanchez hit a grand slam and the lead was pushed to 6-0.  In the ninth Solarte hit a three-run homerun and Kratz hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 6-4.  That would be the final score. 

The Yankees will look for the three-game sweep on Sunday afternoon.

New York Yankees take rubber game against the Oakland Athletics


The New York Yankees defeated the Oakland Athletics on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-5.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The Yankees offense got two hits from Gary Sanchez, Aaron Judge and Ronald Torreyes to lead the way. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up three hits and three runs with two of them being earned. He walked three and struck out five and won his sixth game of the season.  Chad Green pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts, Tommy Layne pitched to one batter and retired him and Adam Warren picked up his first save of the season pitching 1 1/3 perfect innings. 

Andrew Triggs pitched six innings giving up six hits and six runs with only one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out three and lost his fourth game of the season.  Josh Smith pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts and John Axford pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two walks and a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and two RBI, Sanchez had two hits and an RBI and Matt Holliday drew a walk.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Judge had two hits and four RBI and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  Aaron Hicks had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Chris Carter had an RBI and drew a walk and Torreyes had two hits and drew a walk.  Sanchez and Gardner each hit a double and Judge hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Hicks had a stolen base and he was caught stealing.  Pineda committed an error and Gardner had an outfield assist. 

Jed Lowrie drew two walks, Khris Davis had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Yonder Alonso had a hit.  Ryon Healy had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Matt Joyce had a hit and drew a walk and Alonso hit a double and Davis hit a homerun.  The Athletics were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Joyce and Phegley each committed an error. 

In the second Healy hit a two-run single to give the Athletics a 2-0 lead.  Hicks hit a sac fly in the bottom of the second to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the third Judge hit a grand slam to give the Yankees a 5-2 lead.  In the fourth Carter hit a sac fly and it was 6-2 Yankees.  The A’s cut the lead in the sixth on a fielding error and the score was 6-3.  In the seventh Sanchez hit an RBI double to push the lead to 7-3.  Davis hit a two-run homerun in the eighth to cut the lead to 7-5 and in the bottom of the eighth Gardner hit a two-run double to make it 9-5 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees took two out of three in the series and will head to Baltimore to begin a three game series on Monday afternoon.

New York Yankees defeat the Baltimore Orioles in a wild comeback victory


The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and was a wild and crazy game.  The Yankees came back from down 9-1 and 11-4 to win on a walk-off in extra innings.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched bad and Bryan Mitchell was bad out of the pen also.  Matt Holliday had three hits and three RBI, Jacoby Ellsbury had five RBI, Starlin Castro had three hits to lead the offense. 

Sabathia pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and seven runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Mitchell pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and a strikeout, Jonathan Holder pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings with a strikeout and Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning.  Aroldis Chapman picked up his first win of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Kevin Gausman pitched six innings giving up eight hits and five runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Vidal Nuno pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk, Mychal Givens pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Darren O’Day pitched an inning with a strikeout.  Brad Brach pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with two walks and a strikeout and Jayson Aquino pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and a strikeout.  He took his first loss of the season. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Kyle Higashioka drew a walk and Chase Headley had a hit and drew two walks.  Holliday had three hits and three RBI and drew a walk, Ellsbury had a hit and five RBI and Castro had three hits and two RBI.  Didi Gregorius in his return from the DL had two hits and an RBI.  Aaron Judge had two hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Greg Bird drew a walk and Austin Romine had a hit.  Aaron Hicks drew a walk, Gregorius, Holliday and Headley each hit a double.  Judge hit two homeruns, Ellsbury, Castro and Holliday each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Joey Rickard had two hits and drew a walk, Adam Jones had two hits and drew a walk and Manny Machado had three hits and three RBI and drew a walk.  Mark Trumbo had three hits and four RBI, Wilken Castillo had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Trey Mancini had a hit.  Jonathan Schoop had a hit and two RBI, J.J. Hardy had two hits and Machado, Mancini each hit a double and Castillo, Machado and Trumbo each hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the third Machado hit a two-run double to give the Orioles a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Castillo hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 4-0.  In the fifth Machado hit a blast over the CF restaurant to make it a 5-0 game.   Judge hit a homerun in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-1 and in the sixth Trumbo hit a grand slam to make it a 9-1 game.  In the bottom of the sixth Gregorius hit an RBI ground out to make it 9-2 and Judge hit his second homerun a two-run shot to cut the lead to 9-4.  In the seventh Schoop hit a two-run single to increase the lead to 11-4.  Ellsbury hit a grand-slam in the seventh to cut the lead to 11-8.  In the ninth Ellsbury hit into a force out and a run scored cutting the lead to 11-9 and Castro hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at 11.  In the tenth Holliday hit a walk-off three-run homerun to give the Yankees the 14-11 victory.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.  Michael Pineda starts for the Yankees and Ubaldo Jiminez for the Orioles.

The New York Mets blow out the St. Louis Cardinals


The New York Mets blew out the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday afternoon.  The game took place at First Data Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final score was 16-2.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and pitched pretty well.  Wilmer Flores led the offense with a couple of hits and six RBI. 

Matz pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with three walks and three strikeouts.  Matz picked up the win.  Paul Sewald pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts, Josh Smoker pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Erik Goeddel pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a couple of strikeouts.  Jerry Blevins pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew two walks, Ian Strom had an RBI and Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits and drew a walk.  Yoenis Cespedes had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Michael Conforto had two hits and Neil Walker had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Gavin Cecchini had a hit, Jay Bruce had a hit and two RBI and Travis Taijeron had a hit.  Lucas Duda had a hit and drew a walk, Flores had two hits, six RBI and drew a walk and Ty Kelly had a hit and an RBI.  Travis d’Arnaud had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Xorge Carrillo had a hit and Juan Lagares had a hit.  Granderson, Dduda, Flores, Carrillo and Conforto each hit a double.  Flores hit a homerun and the Mets were 9-17 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Alonso committed an error.  Matz had a pickoff. 

In the first Cespedes hit a sac fly to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Bruce hit an RBI single to make it a 2-0 game, Flores hit a two-run double to push the lead to 4-0.  In the second Eric Fryer hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1.  In the second Walker drew an RBI walk, Bruce hit a sac fly and Flores hit a grand-slam to give the Mets a 10-1 lead.  In the third Cespedes hit an RBI single, Walker hit an RBI single and d’Arnaud hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 14-1 lead.  In the sixth Strom hit an RBI ground out to make it a 15-1 game and in the seventh Jose Adolis Garcia hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 15-2.  The Mets added one more run in the seventh on a Kelly RBI single to make it 16-2 and that would be the final score.

New York Yankees offense breaks out and pounds the Cleveland Indians



The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 13-7.  Michael Pineda started and he pitched ok, Johnny Barbato struggled out of the bullpen.  Starlin Castro hit his first career grand slam, Jacoby Ellsbury had four hits and Gary Sanchez had a couple of RBI. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up six hits and a walk with six strikeouts.  He won his sixth game of the season.  Richard Bleier retired both batters that he faced, Tyler Clippard pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Johnny Barbato gave up three hits and three runs with a walk and he didn't record an out.  Adam Warren pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Nick Goody pitched an inning giving up two walks and two strikeouts. 

Josh Tomlin lost his fourth game of the season pitching 4 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and seven runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Zach McAllister pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Shawn Morimando pitched an inning giving up three hits and four runs with four walks and a strikeout and Kyle Crockett pitched two innings giving up three hits and two runs with two walks and a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had two hits and two RBI, Ellsbury had four hits and an RBI and Mark Teixeira had two hits and drew a walk.  Brian McCann had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Chase Headley had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Castro had two hits, four RBI and drew two walks.  Sanchez had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Rob Refsnyder had two hits and drew a walk and Aaron Hicks had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Teixeira, Ellsbry, McCann and Sanchez each hit a double and Garner hit a triple.  Castro and Hicks each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 7-13 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. 

Carlos Santana had a hit and drew a walk, Jeff Kipnis had a hit and drew a walk and Francisco Lindor had a hit.  Mike Napoli had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Jose Ramirez had three hits and Brandon Guyer had a hit and an RBI.  Tyler Naquin had an RBI, Abraham Almonte had two hits and an RBI and Chris Gimenez had a hit and three RBI.  Almonte and Ramirez each hit a double and Gimenez hit a homerun.  The Indians were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Kipnis and Napoli were each caught stealing. 

In the first McCann hit an RBI groundout giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third McCann hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 2-0.  Castro hit a grand slam and the score was 6-0 Yankees still in the third.  In the fifth Gimenez hit a three run homerun to cut the lead to 6-3.  Sanchez hit an RBI double in the fifth to push the lead to 7-3.  Headley hit an RBI single in the sixth making it a 8-3 game and Sanchez had an RBI walk making it 9-3.  In the seventh Naquin hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 9-4.  Hikcs hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh and it was 10-4.  Ellsbury hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 11-4.  In the eighth Napoli hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 11-5, Guyer hit an RBI single to make it 11-6 and Almonte hit a sac fly to make it 11-7.  Gardner hit a two run single in the bottom of the eighth to make it a 13-7 game which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.  The Yankees will try to make it two in a row and get to two games over 500.

New York Mets train keeps rolling with a rout of the San Francisco Giants



The New York Mets defeated the San Francisco Giants on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 13-1.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and pitched well, Michael Conforto had two hits and two RBI and Yoenis Cespedes had two hits and six RBI. 

Matz pitched six innings giving up seven hits and no runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Matz won his third game of the season.  Jerry Blevins pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Logan Verrett pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked one and Antonio Bastardo pitched an inning with two walks and a strikeout. 

Jake Peavy started for the Giants and lost his second game of the season.  He pitched two innings giving up four hits and six runs with five walks and three strikeouts.  Mike Broadway pitched three innings giving up five hits and six runs with a walk and a strikeout, Steven Okert pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with two strikeouts and Javier Lopez pitched an inning striking out one. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, David Wright had a hit and drew two walks and Conforto had two hits, two RBI.  Cespedes had two hits and six RBI, Lucas Duda drew two walks and Neil Walker had two hits and an RBI.  Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits and two RBI, Kevin Plawecki had a hit and drew a walk and Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI.  Conforto, Walker and Cabrera each hit a double.  Cespedes hit a homerun and the Mets were 9-16 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Wright committed an error. 

Denard Span had a hit and drew two walks, Joe Panik had a hit and Matt Duffy had a hit.  Buster Posey had a hit, Trevor Brown drew a walk and Hunter Pence drew a walk.  Brandon Belt had a hit and drew a walk, Brandon Crawford had two hits and Gregor Blanco had a hit.  Kelby Tomlinson drew a walk, Angel Pagan had a hit and an RBI and Blanco hit a double.  Pagan hit a homerun and the Giants were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.  Belt was caught stealing. 

In the third Conforto hit an RBI double, Cespedes hit a two run single, Walker hit an RBI double, Cabrera hit a two run double and Granderson hit an RBI single to make it 7-0.  Conforto hit an RBI single still in the third inning and Cespedes hit a grand slam to make it 12-0 Mets.  In the seventh Pagan hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 12-1 and in the bottom of the seventh Lagares hit an RBI single making it 13-1 which would be the final score of the game. 

The New York Mets have won seven games in a row now.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Yankees comeback for a thrilling win over the Minnesota Twins



The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-4 Yankees.  CC Sabathia started and pitched ok, Andrew Miller was great out of the pen.  Alex Rodriguez hit a grand slam to propel the Yankees and Greg Bird, Chase Headley, Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran each had two hits. 

Sabathia pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up four runs on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts.  Nick Rumbelow won his first major league game by pitching 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Justin Wilson pitched to two batters and retired them both and Andrew Miller pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out three and earned his 27th save of the season. 

Mike Pelfrey pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and four strikeouts.  Ryan O'Rourke pitched an inning giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and a strikeout, J.R. Graham pitched an inning giving up five hits and four runs with a strikeout and A.J. Achter pitched to two batters retiring them both and had one strikeout. 

Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI, Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk and Rodriguez had a hit and four RBI.  Brian McCann drew a walk, Beltran had two hits and Bird had two hits and an RBI.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Headley had two hits and two RBI and Brendan Ryan drew a walk.  Ellsbury, Beltran and Headley each hit a double and Rodriguez hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base and Gardner had an outfield assist. 

Joe Mauer drew a walk, Miguel Sano had a hit and two RBI and Trevor Plouffe drew a walk.  Eduardo Escobar had three hits, Kurt Suzuki had two hits and an RBI and Shane Robinson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Suzuki and Escobar each hit a double and Sano hit a homerun.  The Twins were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the fourth Bird hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Suzuki hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  In the seventh Sano hit a two run homerun and it was 3-1 Twins.  Robinson hit an RBI single to push the Twins lead to 4-1.  In the seventh Rodriguez hit a grand-slam to make it 5-4 Yankees.  In the bottom of the eighth Headley hit a two run double to make it 7-4 Yankees and Ellsbury hit an RBI single to make it 8-4 Yankees which was the final score.  The Yankees will look for the three game sweep on Wednesday afternoon.

The New York Yankees pick up victory and first series win of the year in Tampa Bay



The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday night.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 9-0.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and dominated.  Brian McCann had three hits and Chris Young hit a grand slam to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched seven innings giving up no runs and two hits.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out eight and also earned his second victory of the season.  David Carpenter pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Brandon Pinder pitched a scoreless inning  allowing a hit and two walks and striking out one. 

Jake Odorizzi pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with two walks and nine strikeouts.  He took his first loss of the season.  C.J. Riefenhauser pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs, Grant Balfour pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three runs with three walks and Jose Dominguez pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out two. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits, Brett Gardner had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Alex Rodriguez drew two walks.  Mark Teixeira had an RBI, McCann had three hits and two RBI and Young had a hit and four RBI.  Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk, Stephen Drew had a hit and drew a walk and Gregorio Petit had an RBI.  Drew hit a double, McCann hit a triple and Young hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Gardner had two stolen bases. 

David DeJesus had two hits, Tim Beckham drew a walk and Ryan Brett drew a walk.  Brandon Guyer hit a double and the Rays were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the sixth McCann hit a two run triple to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the seventh the Yankees scored seven runs to break the game open.  Petit hit a sacrifice fly, Teixeira hit a sacrifice fly and Young hit a grand slam to increase the Yankees lead to 9-0 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have won the first two games of the three game series.  The Yankees will look for the sweep on Sunday afternoon with Michael Pineda on the hill.

The San Francisco Giants take care of business in Pittsburgh with a blowout win



The San Francisco Giants defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night.  The game took place at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the final score was 8-0.  The Giants are no strangers to the postseason as they won it all in 2010 and 2012.  If they continue the streak they would win it all again this season.  Madison Bumgarner showed that he is one of the best young pitchers and Edinson Volquez was not that good.  Brandon Crawford hit a grand slam to lead the Giants offense. 

Bumgarner pitched a complete game shutout.  He gave up four hits and a walk with ten strikeouts. 

Volquez took the loss pitching five innings and giving up five hits and five runs.  He walked three and struck out three.  Justin Wilson pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Jared Hughes pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Bobby LaFromboise pitched 2/3 of an inning.  John Holdzkom pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Mark Melancon pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Gregor Blanco drew a walk, Panik had three hits and Buster Posey had two hits and an RBI.  Pablo Sandoval had two hits and drew a walk, Hunter Pence had a hit and drew a walk and Brandon Belt had two hits, three RBI and drew two walks.  Crawford had a hit and four RBI, Ishikawa drew a walk and Crawford hit a homerun.  The Giants were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Crawford and Arias each committed an error. 

Josh Harrison had two hits, Andrew McCutchen drew a walk and Russell Martin had a hit.  Starling Marte had a hit and the Pirates were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the fourth Crawford hit a grand slam to give the Giants a 4-0 lead.  In the sixth Belt hit an RBI single to increase the lead to 5-0.  In the seventh Belt hit a two run single and it was 7-0 and then the Giants added another run in the eighth on a Posey RBI single to make it 8-0 and that was the final score.  The Giants will move on to play the Washington Nationals in the NLDS.

The New York Yankees win a slugfest over the Cleveland Indians



The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 10-6.  Esmil Rogers started for the Yankees and pitched well, the bullpen was a little shaky.  Carlos Beltran led the offense with five RBI. 

Rogers pitched five innings giving up one run on four hits.  He walked one and struck out three and won his second game of the season.  David Huff pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run with two strikeouts, Shawn Kelley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and four runs with two walks and Adam Warren pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.  Rich Hill retired the only two batters that he faced and Dellin Betances pitched an inning allowing two hits and striking out two. 

Trevor Bauer pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs.  He walked four and struck out three and took his seventh loss of the season.  Nick Hagadone pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with a strikeout, John Axford pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and four runs with three walks and Marc Rzepczynski pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run.  Bryan Shaw pitched to one batter and retired him, Josh Tomlin pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and striking out one and Cody Allen pitched to two batters and retired them both. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Derek Jeter had a hit which tied him with Honus Wagner for sixth place on the all-time hits list.  Jacoby Ellsbury drew three walks, Beltran had two hits and five RBI and Brian McCann had a hit and drew a walk.  Francisco Cervelli had two hits, Chase Headley had an RBI and drew a walk and Stephen Drew had a hit and an RBI.  Martin Prado had a hit and an RBI, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and drew a walk and Gardner and Cervelli each hit a double.  Beltran hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Suzuki had two stolen bases. 

Jeff Kipnis had two hits and drew a walk, Alex Aviles had a hit and Michael Brantley had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks.  Carlos Santana had three hits and three RBI, David Murphy had two hits and two RBI and Nick Swisher had a hit.  Jose Ramirez drew a walk, Roberto Perez had two hits and Kipnis, Brantley and Santana each hit a double.  The Indians were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Kipnis and Ramirez each committed an error. 

In the first Santana hit an RBI single to give the Indians a 1-0 lead.  The Yankees came right back and scored five in the bottom of the first.  Beltran hit an RBI single, Headley had an RBI walk and Drew hit an RBI single.  Prado hit a two run single.  In the sixth Murphy hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-2.  The Yankees scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 10-2 lead.  Beltran hit a grand slam and Drew had an RBI groundout.  The Indians scored four runs in the seventh to get back in the game but that was it for the scoring.  Brantley had an RBI walk, Santana hit a two run double and Murphy hit a sacrifice fly.  The final score was 10-6 Yankees.  The two teams will play game two of their three game set on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Mets end their six game losing streak



The New York Mets defeated the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-2.  Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched well and the bullpen was pretty good.  Taylor Teagarden hit a grand slam. 

Matsuzaka pitched six innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and five strikeouts.  Matsuzaka won his third game of the season.  Vic Black pitched an inning giving up a hit, Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts and Jennry Mejia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Marco Estrada pitched six innings giving up four hits and six runs with four walks and five strikeouts.  Estrada lost his third game of the season.   Mike Fiers pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Zach Duke pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and David Wright drew a walk.  Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Chris Young had a hit and Lucas Duda drew a walk.  Teagarden had a hit and four RBI, Matt den Dekker had a hit and Tejada hit a double.  Murphy and Teagarden each hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Young had a stolen base. 

Scooter Gennett had a hit and drew a walk, Ryan Braun drew a walk and Jonathan Lucroy had a hit.  Carlos Gomez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Lyle Overbay had two hits and an RBI and Estrada had a hit.  Overbay and Gomez each hit a double and the Brewers were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Braun had a stolen base and Overbay committed an error. 

Murphy hit a two run homerun in the third to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Overbay hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the sixth Teagarden hit a grand slam to give the Mets a 6-1 lead.  Gomez hit an RBI double in the eighth to make it a 6-2 game but that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Wednesday night.

The New York Mets blow out the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 11-2.   Bartolo Colon started and pitched pretty well for the Mets.  The bullpen was good and Wilmer Flores led the Mets with six RBI. 

Colon pitched seven innings giving up six hits and three runs with three walks and five strikeouts.  Colon won his fifth game of the season, Dana Eveland pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout, Jeurys Familia faced one batter and retired him and Carlos Torres pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Roberto Hernandez lost his third game of the season pitching 5 1/3 innings and giving up five hits and five runs with four of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out five.  Mario Hollands pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts, Cesar Jimenez pitched an inning and walked one and Jake Diekman pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and four runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Phillippe Aumont pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout. 

Matt den Dekker had a hit, Daniel Murphy had two hits and David Wright had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Curtis Granderson had a hit and two RBI, Bobby Abreu had a hit and drew a walk and Eric Campbell drew a walk.  Lucas Duda had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Flores had two hits and six RBI and Travis d'Arnaud drew two walks.  Chris Young drew a walk, Abreu, Duda, Wright and Flores each hit a double and Flores hit a homerun.  The Mets were 5-12 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Wright was caught stealing and den Dekker had an outfield assist. 

Ben Revere had two hits, Cesar Hernandez had a hit and drew a walk and Chase Utley had a hit.  Ryan Howard had an RBI and drew a walk, Marlon Byrd drew a walk and Dominic Brown had a hit.  Reid Brignac had two hits, Utley hit a double and the Phillies were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Utley committed an error and Byrd had an outfield assist. 

Duda hit an RBI double in the second to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Wright hit a two run double in the sixth, Flores hit a two run double also in the sixth and it was 5-0 Mets.  Howard had an RBI groundout in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-1.  Revere scored on a wild pitch in the eighth to make it 5-2 and then Granderson hit a two run single and Flores hit a grand slam to extend the Mets lead to 11-2 in the ninth.  11-2 was the final score and the Mets won four out of the five games.  The Mets will now head to Chicago to take on the Cubs in a three game series.

The New York Mets win in grand style on a walk-off grand slam

The New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at

Citi Field in Flushing, New York.  Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched well.  Ike Davis was the

offensive star for the Mets.  The Mets bullpen was also good which is a rarity.  The Mets offense

only managed six hits but the biggest one was the walk-off by Ike Davis. 

Gee pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Scott Rice pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one and Carlos Torres picked up his first win pitching an inning and giving up a hit and striking out two batters. 

Johnny Cueto pitched seven innings giving up five hits and two runs with three walks and nine strikeouts.  Sam LeCure pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and J.J. Hoover didn't record an out and gave up a hit and four runs with two walks. 

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and David Wright drew a walk.  Curtis Granderson had a hit and two RBI, Juan Lagares had a hit and drew two walks and Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew two walks.  Davis had a hit and four RBI.  Tejada hit a double, Granderson and Davis each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Brandon Phillips had a hit and two RBI, Ryan Ludwick had a hit and an RBI and Todd Frazier had a hit and drew a walk.  Barnhart had two hits, Cueto had a hit and Heisey had a hit.  Heisey hit a double, Ludwick and Phillips each hit a homerun.  The Red were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Phillips committed an error. 

Ludwick hit a solo homerun in the fifth to give the Reds a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Granderson hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  Phillips hit a two run homerun in the eighth to give the Reds a 3-2 lead.  In the ninth Davis hit a walk-off grand slam to give the Mets a 6-3 victory. 

The two teams will play the finale of their three game series on Sunday afternoon.  Jon Niese will be activated from the disabled list to make the start and try to give the Mets a three game sweep.

The New York Yankees sweep the Toronto Blue Jays as the offense explodes

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 10-7 on Thursday night. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Phil Hughes started and threw too many pitches but he was able to get the win. The Yankees bullpen other then Cory Wade was good. Ichiro Suzuki had another couple of hits and Nick Swisher hit a grand slam. Aaron Laffey started for the Blue Jays and didn’t pitch great and their bullpen was up and down. Kelly Johnson led the Jays offense. 
Hughes won his 16th game of the season pitching five innings and giving up four hits and four runs with three walks and nine strikeouts. Derek Lowe pitched two innings giving up a hit and two walks with two strikeouts, Wade pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a strikeout and Joba Chamberlain pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits. Dave Robertson picked up his second save of the season with a 1-2-3 inning. He struck out the side, Laffey pitched three innings giving up two hits and five runs with four of them being earned. He walked five and struck out three and lost his sixth game of the season. Brad Lincoln pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout, Brett Cecil pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout and Jason Frasor pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. Joel Carreno pitched two innings with a walk and five strikeouts.

Derek Jeter had two hits and two RBI, Swisher had a hit, four RBI and drew a walk and Robinson Cano drew a walk. Alex Rodriguez had a hit, Russell Martin drew two walks and Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk. Casey McGehee drew a walk, Suzuki had two hits and three RBI and Jayson Nix had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks. Suzuki, Granderson and Nix each hit a double. Suzuki and Swisher each hit a homerun. The Yankees were 5-11 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Martin had a stolen base and two passed balls.

Brett Lawrie had a hit and an RBI, Mike McCoy had an RBI and Edwin Encarnacion had two hits and drew a walk. Adam Lind had a hit and drew two walks, Moises Sierra had a hit and three RBI and Johnson had two hits and two RBI. J.P. Arencibia had a hit, Hechavarria had a hit and Anthony Gose had a hit and drew two walks. Lind, Johnson and Gose each hit two doubles, Sierra and Johnson each hit a homerun. The Blue Jays were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Gose was caught stealing and Johnson committed an error.

In the second inning Johnson hit an RBI double to give the Jays a 1-0 lead. Sierra was hit by a pitch in the third inning to give them a 2-0 lead. Suzuki hit a solo homerun to make it a 2-1 game. In the fourth Suzuki hit a two run double to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead. Jeter hit an RBI single to make it 4-2 and Swisher hit a grand slam to make it 8-2. In the fifth Sierra hit a two run homerun to make it 8-4. Nix had an RBI double and Jeter an RBI single in the fifth to make it 10-4. Johnson hit a solo homerun in the eighth and Lawrie hit an RBI single to make it 10-6. McCoy had an RBI groundout to make it 10-7 and that would be the final score.

The Yankees swept the three game series and have won five straight games. The Yankees are one game in front of the Baltimore Orioles for first place in the AL East and will begin a three game series with the Oakland Athletics on Friday night. The Yankees record improved to 86-63 and the Jays record dropped to 66-82.

The New York Mets sweep the Miami Marlins

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins by the score of 5-1 on Sunday afternoon. Chris Young started for the Mets and pitched well, the bullpen pitched very well. Jason Bay led the Mets offense. Mark Buehrle started for the Marlins and didn’t pitch so well, the bullpen pitched well. The Marlins offense was led by Justin Ruggiano. 
Young pitched five innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts. Young earned his fourth win of the season, Bobby Parnell pitched a perfect inning, Josh Edgin pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Jon Rauch pitched a perfect inning striking out two. Frank Francisco pitched a perfect inning. Buehrle lost his 12th game of the season pitching seven innings giving up six hits and five runs with a walk and three strikeouts. Ryan Webb pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out one and Carlos Zambrano pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.

Ronny Cedeno had a hit, Justin Turner had two hits and David Wright had an RBI. Ike Davis had a hit and drew a walk, Bay had two hits and four RBI and Andres Torres had two hits. Cedeno, Torres and Turner each hit a double. Bay hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and they left three men on base.

Bryan Petersen had a hit and drew a walk, Ruggiano had two hits and an RBI and Jose Reyes had a hit. Donovan Solano had a hit, Rob Brantly had a hit and drew a walk and Ruggiano hit a double. The Marlins were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Reyes had two stolen bases.

In the first Wright had an RBI groundout and Bay hit a grand slam making it 5-0 Mets. The Marlins scored their only run in the fifth inning. Ruggiano hit an RBI double to make it 5-1 and that would be the final score.

The Mets swept the three game series in Miami. The Mets record improved to 64-70 and the Marlins record dropped to 59-75. The Mets have now won seven of their last eight games. The Mets will begin a three game series in St. Louis on Monday afternoon.

Chicago,IL(June 27, 2012)-The New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs by the score of 17-1 on Wednesday afternoon. The Mets got a lot of hitting and some good pitching from Jon Niese. Jeff Samardzija had a rough day starting for the Cubs and Barney led their offense.

Niese pitched seven innings giving up eight hits and a run with a walk and six strikeouts. Niese is now 6-3 on the season. Ramon Ramirez pitched two innings giving up a hit and struck out two. Samardzija lost his seventh game of the season and pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits and nine runs. He walked four and struck out one. Coleman pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up six hits and seven runs with a couple of walks and a strikeout. The Cubs used three other relievers who pitched three innings giving up four hits and a run. They walked one and struck out two.

Andres Torres had a hit and drew a walk, Ruben Tejada had three hits and David Wright had two hits and five RBI. Justin Turner had a hit, Lucas Duda drew three walks and Ike Davis had three hits and four RBI. Scott Hairston had two hits and four RBI, Daniel Murphy had three hits and four RBI and Josh Thole had a hit. Niese drew two walks and Mike Nickeas drew a walk. Murphy, Davis, Tejada, Wright and Thole each had a double. Murphy had two homeruns, Davis and Hairston each hit a homerun. The Mets were 7-13 with runners in scoring position and they left four men on base. Torres had a stolen base, Thole had a passed ball. Niese had a pickoff.

The Mets scored three runs in the fourth and six each in the fifth and sixth innings. Wright had a sacrifice fly to give the Mets a 1-0 lead in the first inning. In the second Valbuena had an RBI double to tie the game at one. In the fourth Davis had an RBI double and Murphy had a two run homerun and it was 4-1 Mets. Wright hit a two run double in the fifth, Davis hit a three run homerun and Murphy hit a solo homerun making it 10-1 Mets. In the sixth Wright hit a two run single and Hairston hit a grand slam and it was 16-1 Mets. In the eighth Murphy grounded out to make it 17-1.

The Mets salvaged the final game of the three game series. The Mets improved their record to 40-36 and the Cubs record fell to 26-49. The Mets will head to Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers in a four game series beginning on Thursday night.

The Yankees with a big comeback win in Atlanta to win their fifth straight

The New York Yankees defeated the Atlanta Braves by the score of 6-4. The Yankees were completely shutdown for seven innings. They struck for six runs in the eighth inning and the bullpen was able to hold it down. Alex Rodriguez was the star of the game for the Yankees. CC Sabathia started and struggled once again although he was able to battle and give them seven innings. Mike Minor pitched great but was lifted in the eighth due to pitch count. The Braves bullpen struggled and blew the game for them. 
Sabathia pitched seven innings giving up ten hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts. Sabathia is now 8-3 on the season as he got the win. Clay Rapada pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out one, Rafael Soriano saved his tenth game of the season with a 1-2-3 inning including two strikeouts. Minor pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up one run on five hits, he walked one and struck out four. Jonny Venters lost his third game of the season giving up three hits and four runs with a walk without recording an out. Cory Gearrin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run and he struck out one and Cristhian Martinez pitched an inning walking one and striking out one.

Derek Jeter had two hits, Curtis Granderson had two hits and Mark Teixeira drew three walks. Rodriguez had a hit and four RBI, Robinson Cano had a hit and Nick Swisher had two hits and two RBI. Chris Stewart had a hit, Swisher had a double and Rodriguez had a homerun which was a grand slam. The grand slam was the 23rd of his career tying him with Lou Gehrig for most all-time. The Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Wise had a stolen base.

Michael Bourn had a hit for the Braves. Martin Prado had a hit, Brian McCann had two hits and Dan Uggla had a hit and drew two walks. Matt Diaz had a hit and three RBI, Jason Heyward had an RBI and Chipper Jones had two hits. Andrelton Simmons had two hits and drew a walk, McCann had two doubles and Diaz had a double. Uggla and Simmons each had a double. The Braves were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and they left nine men on base. Bourn had a stolen base.

Diaz hit a three run double in the first to give the Braves a 3-0 lead. The Braves extended their lead to 4-0 in the seventh on a Heyward RBI groundout. The Yankees struck in the eighth after doing basically nothing for seven innings. Rodriguez hit a grand slam and Swisher hit a two run homerun and it was 6-4 Yankees. The Yankees bullpen would hold on and that would be the final score.

The win was the Yankees fifth in a row and brought them a season high 11 games over 500. They have a record of 36-25. They are now alone in first place in the AL East one game ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays who lost to the New York Mets on Tuesday night. The Braves record dropped to 34-28. The Yankees will be looking for the three game sweep on Wednesday night. The Yankees will then have a day off on Thursday and play a three game weekend series in Washington against the Nationals.
