New York Mets fall to the Chicago Cubs in exra innings


The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs on Saturday.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 7-1 in 14 innings.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched well, the bullpen had mixed results though.  Amed Rosario and Luis Guillorme each had two hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and a run with two walks and 13 strikeouts.  Robert Gsellman pitched an inning with a walk and three strikeouts, Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Jerry Blevins pitched an inning giving up a hit and two walks with two strikeouts.  Hansel Robles pitched an inning with a strikeout, Tim Peterson pitched two innings giving up three hits and a walk with three strikeouts and Buddy Baumann pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and four runs with two walks and he lost his second game of the season.  Gerson Bautista pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs.   

Mike Montgomery pitched six innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and four strikeouts.  Cory Mazzoni pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Justin Wilson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with four strikeouts and Luke Farrell pitched five innings giving up two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts and he won his second game of the season.  Brandon Morrow pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Jose Bautista had a hit and drew a walk, Michael Conforto had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Jose Lobaton drew a walk.  Kevin Plawecki drew a walk, Guillorme had two hits and Rosario had two hits.  Adrian Gonzalez had a hit, Bautista hit a double and Conforto hit a homerun.  The Mets were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Plaweciki committed two errors and Cabrera committed an error.  Nimmo had an outfield assist. 

Ben Zobrist had two hits, two RBI and drew two walks, Jason Heyward had four hits and Javier Baez had a hit and two RBI.  Kris Bryant had a hit, Anthony Rizzo had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Wilson Contreras had a hit and drew two walks.  Kyle Schwarber had two hits and drew a walk, Albert Almora Jr. had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Addison Russell had a hit and drew a walk, Ian Happ had a hit and drew a walk and Heyward, Almora Jr. and Zobrist each hit a double.  Baez hit a homerun and the Cubs were 6-17 with runners in scoring position and left 17 men on base.  Rizzo, Happ and Zobrist each had a stolen base.  Russell and Bryant each committed an error. 

In the sixth Rizzo hit an RBI single to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth Conforto hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the 14th Almora hit a two-run double, Zobrist hit a two-run double and Baez hit a two-run homerun to give the Cubs a 7-1 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game three of three on Sunday afternoon.

New York Mets lose a close one on a walk-off to the Atlanta Braves


The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at SunTrust Park in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 4-3.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched very well.  Devin Mesoraco and Luis Guillorme each had two hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run with three walks and eight strikeouts.  Seth Lugo lost his first game of the season and blew his first save pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Max Fried pitched five innings giving up four hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out six.  Jesse Biddle pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Sam Freeman pitched an inning with three strikeouts and Shane Carle won his third game of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts. 

Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, Michael Conforto drew a walk and Jose Bautista had a hit and drew two walks.  Mesoraco had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Guillorme had two hits and an RBI and Amed Rosario had a hit.  deGrom drew a walk, Guillorme hit a double and Mesoraco hit a homerun.  The Mets were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Rosario had a stolen base and Bautista was caught stealilng and Conforto was picked off. 

Ozzie Albies had two hits, Freddie Freeman had two hits and drew a walk and Nick Markakis had a hit and an RBI.  Tyler Flowers had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Preston Tucker drew a walk and Johan Camargo had a hit and drew a walk.  Charlie Culberson had a hit and two RBI.  Flowers and Culberson each hit a homerun and the Braves were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Dansby Swanson committed an error and Flowers had a passed ball.  Fried had two pickoffs. 

In the first Mesoraco drew an RBI walk to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Guillorme hit an RBI double to push the lead to 2-0.  In the seventh Flowers hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the eighth Markakis hit a sac fly to tie the game at two.  In the ninth Mesoraco hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the ninth Culberson hit a solo walk-off homerun to give the Braves a 4-3 victory. 

The two teams will play game two of the day at night and then another game on Tuesday night.

New York Mets defeat the Miami Marlins


The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida and the final score was 8-2.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Phillip Evans and Luis Guillorme each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Matz pitched two innings giving up three hits and no runs with no walks and a strikeout.  Marcos Molina pitched a perfect inning, David Roseboom pitched an inning with two strikeouts and Erik Goeddel pitched an inning with a hit and he struck out one.  Rafael Montero pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts, Chasen Bradford pitched an inning giving up a walk and he got the win and Josh Smoker pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout.  Ben Rowen pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Juan Lagares had a hit, Champ Stuart had a hit and an RBI and Michael Conforto had a hit.  Travis Taijeron had a hit, Travis d’Arnaud had a hit and an RBI and Evans had two hits and an RBI.  Dominic Smith had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Amed Rosario had a hit and L.J. Mazzilli had a hit and two RBI.  Guillorme had two hits and drew a walk, Patrick Biondi drew a walk and Wuilmer Becerra had a hit and drew a walk.  Gene Cone had an RBI and drew two walks, Becerra, Taijeron and Evans each hit a double.  d’Arnaud and Mazzilli each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 5-16 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Lagares, Conforto and Becerra each had a stolen base.  Guillorme and Smith each committed an error. 

In the fourth d’Arnaud hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Giancarlo Stanton hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the eighth Evans hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  Smith hit an RBI single to make it 3-1, Mazzilli hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 5-1.  Stuart hit an RBI single still in the eighth to make it a 6-1 game.  A passed ball pushed the Mets lead to 7-1.  In the bottom of the eighth Moises Sierra hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 7-2 and in the ninth Cone drew an RBI walk to make it an 8-2 game which would be the final score.
