Mets lose their first grapefruit league game

The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves today at Disneys Wide World Of Sports. The final score was 9-5, the Mets spring record is now even at 1-1. Pat Misch got the start for the Mets and was impressive pitching 3 scoreless innings, he did give up a couple of walks. He only allowed one hit. Eric Niesen pitched 2 scoreless innings giving up a hit and a walk. Eddie Kunz didn't fare so well giving up 4 runs and 2 hits in 1/3 of an inning. He also gave up 3 walks, his era stands at a horrible 108.00. Josh Stinson pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up 3 hits and 5 runs with a strikeout. Only one of the runs was earned. Neal Musser pitched 1 inning giving up a hit and a walk but no runs. I don't know any of these guys except for Misch and Kunz. Angel Pagan, Josh Thole and Daniel Murphy all had rbi singles. Fernando Martinez had a rbi triple. He had a good day going 2 for 3. Mike Cervenak had a rbi single. The Mets committed four errors in the seventh inning, I thought they were working on fundamentals, that is pretty hard to do. Matthew Cerrone has some video and pictures from todays action. He also has a good interview with Gary Matthews Jr. It can all be found at http://metsblog.com. The Mets will take on the St. Louis Cardinals at 1:00PM tomorrow in Port St. Lucie at Tradition Field.

New York Mets Pre Spring Training Workout

The New York Mets got to work today ahead of the Thursday report day for pitchers and catchers. David Wright, Daniel Murphy, Mike Jacobs, John Maine, Jon Niese, Ryota Igarashi and Hisanori Takahashi. Sandy Koufax was a guest of new minor league field coordinator Terry Collins and Guy Conti. They both once worked for the Dodgers. Here are a couple of pictures from Port St. Lucie, these pictures are courtesy of the NY Daily News and Adam Rubins blog Surfing the Mets. There wasn't much news coming out of today down there but Omar Minaya did say there is competition between Mike Jacobs and Daniel Murphy for first base. I don't know how the Mets could not have Murphy win that job though since there isn't any other spot for him and they really have high hopes for him and have continued to support him.

The Calm before the Storm

The title says it all, as we all wait for the snow up here in the Tristate area we can start thinking of spring training. The Yankees truck day will be on Monday. That is the day where all the equipment and stuff needed for spring training is loaded up and heads down to Tampa. Pitchers and catchers will be reporting to spring training in 13 days. Derek Jeter is already down there working out and Joba Chamberlain will be heading there on Monday. I am sure there may be some others. It has been a long cold winter and I am sure we will be getting hammered with snow this month but at least we can think spring with pitchers and catchers about to report to spring training. It is time to get excited and feel the warmth of spring. It has been quiet for a couple of weeks now but we will be geared up now to bring all the news and notes from spring training. I will be posting pictures of spring training as well so come back and check it out once spring training begins. The Minnesota Twins signed Orlando Cabrera. The Toronto Blue Jays signed reliever Kevin Gregg. Melvin Mora signed with the Colorado Rockies for 1 yr and 1.275 million. There aren't many free agents left out there but one notable is Johnny Damon. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. His agent Scott Boras is still claiming there are 3 or 4 teams out there. I haven't seen one that has offered him anything. Detroit has been the chatter lately but they were clearing money off of their books so who knows.

My Citi Field experience

I went to Citi Field on Saturday night to see the Yankees play the Mets. The first cool thing to happen was on my way there on the Grand Central Parkway, all of the sudden we heard all these sirens and saw police cars coming and everyone moving out of the way well wouldn't you know that it was the Yankees team bus coming to the game. The bus drove right past us, it was a really nice bus of course. The first thing I noticed about Citi Field was how impressive it looked from the outside and how good the employees were with getting everyone into the parking lot and parked in a safe and orderly manner. I walked up to the stadium and just stared in amazement at how impressive it is, Shea was just terrible and I always hated it there, Citi Field immediatel was 30 times better then Shea. I really though that it was set up nice and was pretty intimate for a big stadium. I loved how the scoreboards were set up and the between innings activities that they do. I thought there was a lot of legroom and a lot of room to walk in the corridors, the section we were in had the Caesars Club which was a really nice lounge. It felt like being in a VIP lounce in Atlantic City or Las Vegas. It had nice leather couches and chairs and tables to sit and relax along with the high end concessions and bar. There was a bunch of flat screen televisions. I really liked that area. The level I was in was in the middle third base line in the outfield and other then the left field corner you could see the whole field perfectly, i thought the site lines were great and they had flat screen televisions to the left and right all through the section which was a nice touch. I didn't get to see everything and I definitely want to go back and see more but a really cool thing they have there is a mini Citi Field that is a wiffle ball field for the kids to play in, they even had a homerun hitting contest from there in between one of the innings. The Jackie Robinson Rotunda was very nice and a great spot to take pictures. I definitely thought it was a great park and plan on going back, I am not sure if it was better then Yankees Stadium but it may be. I will post pictures as soon as I can get them downloaded to my computer. I hope everyone that lives around here will get a chance to go at least once, it is definitely worth it.

My Day at the New Yankee Stadium

This is a picture of inside the Yankee Museum. Here is Thurmans Locker
I t I took an assortment of field and all over the stadium, to the right is the great hall and above it is just a concession stand. I have the Old Stadium below since it is still standing.
Here is the outside of the main entrance to the Stadium.
