The Yankees win their fourth game in a row

The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night by the score of 6-4. The game took place at Yankees stadium in the Bronx,NY. Phil Hughes started for the Yankees and pitched brilliantly. The only blemish in the game for the Yankees was Cory Wade making it interesting in the ninth inning. Rafael Soriano picked up an easy two pitch save. The Yankees were able to score some runs without the homerun ball. They generated five of the six runs without a homerun. Justin Masterson started for the Indians and didn’t pitch so well. They didn’t hit until the ninth inning. 
Hughes pitched eight innings giving up no runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out four. Hughes won his eighth game of the season. Cory Wade pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and four runs and Soriano pitched 1/3 of an inning retiring the batter on two pitches. It was his 16^th save of the season. Masterson fell to 4-7 on the season pitching six innings giving up seven hits and four runs. He walked three and struck out two. Tony Sipp pitched one inning giving up one hit and one run and Nick Hagadone pitched one inning giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout.

Derek Jeter celebrating his 38^th birthday had two hits. Curtis Granderson had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Alex Rodriguez had a hit, RBI and drew a walk and Robinson Cano had a hit. Mark Teixeira had a walk and an RBI, Nick Swisher had two hits and Andruw Jones had a hit. DeWayne Wise had a hit and Chris Stewart had two hits and two RBI. Rodriguez hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and they left eight men on base.

Shin-Soo Choo had a hit and drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and Jason Kipnis had a hit. Michael Brantley had a hit, Johnny Damon had two hits and an RBI and Casey Kotchman had a hit. Jack Hannahan had a hit, Jose Lopez had a hit and three RBI and Lonnie Chisenhall had a hit. Brantley and Kipnis each had a double and Lopez hit a homerun. The Indians were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and they left five men on base. Santana had a passed ball.

In the second inning Stewart had an RBI single and Granderson had a two run single to make it 3-0. In the fifth Teixeira hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0 Yankees. Rodriguez hit a solo homerun in the seventh to extend the lead to 5-0. Stewart would hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth to make it 6-0. The Indians would rally with two outs in the ninth. Damon hit an RBI single and Lopez hit a three run homerun which made it 6-4 and that would be the game.

The Yankees have now won four games in a row after losing three in a row. The Yankees record improved to 45-28. They have taken the first two games of this three game series which will conclude on Wednesday afternoon. The Indians record fell to 37-36. The Indians will try and salvage the final game of the series. The Yankees will then take on the Chicago White Sox for four games beginning on Thursday night at home. The Yankees are in the middle of hope week and after this homestand they will travel to Tampa Bay and Boston and then have the All Star Break. The Yankees have won 14 of their last 17 games and have the best record in baseball in the month of June.

He missed all of last season, and should be one of the guys the Blue Jays look too as he was up and coming before he got hurt. The Yankees PR Dept released this info this morning. Of the 66 players in camp 37 were either originally drafted by the Yankees or signed with the Yankees as non drafted free agents. 23 played in at least one game for the Yankees last season and 27 have appeared in a game for the Yankees at some point in their careers. Andrew Brackman is scheduled to make his spring debut today. The other pitchers who are scheduled for today are: Jonathan Albaladejo, Boone Logan,Mark Melancon, Jason Hirsch,Romulo Sanchez, Amaury Sanit. The position players scheduled to come in the game are Jaime Hoffman getting his first turn in CF, Mike River(C), Jorge Vazquez(1B),Kevin Russ(2B), Eduardo Nunez(SS), Brandon Laird(3B),Colin Curtis(LF), David Winfree(RF) and Austin Romine(DH). Tomorrows scheduled pitchers are Sergio Mitre, Chad Gaudin, Kei Igawa, Wilkens Arias, D.J. Mitchell,Ryan Pope, Amaury Sanit and Kevin Whelan. The game tomorrow is in Fort Myers against the Twins and obviously they aren't sending any of the big guys. Christian Garcia is throwing a bullpen today and scheduled to make his spring debut on Monday. The other guys who are throwing side sessions today are CC Sabathia, Zack Segovia, Zach McAllister and Ivan Nova. Mariano Rivera and Damaso Marte got up to 30 pitches in their bullpens yesterday. They are scheduled to throw tomorrw. Mo said he thinks it is BP tomorrow. Today is Francisco Cervellis 24th birthday so Happy Birthday to him. The Yankees have signed Can Am league player Myron Leslie to a minor league deal. It is on the Can Am website. This is the same league that the New Jersey Jackals play in. Yankees at Rays

The Yankees begin a 3 game series in Tampa tonight at 7:10 on YES. This is also the start of a 9 game 3 city roadtrip that will see them go to Chicago and Toronto next. The Yankees have the second best road record in the league behind Anaheim so the road doesn't really intimidate them. Here are the pregame notes and lineup via Peter Abraham of the Journal News. The Dodgers have the best record in baseball but the Yankees are only 2 games behind them with the 2nd best record. The Yankees are 4-4 against the Rays this year. Derek Jeters Birthday

Happy Birthday to Derek Jeter who turns 35 today. He was born in Pequannock, NJ at the old Chilton Hospital same hospital I was born at 3 years later. I am really starting to feel old, it seems like just yesterday that he came up and started playing shortstop and winning world series and here we are 13 years later and he is becoming an old man, well not really but in baseball he is. Derek is having one of his best years defensively in a while though, so maybe he is getting better with age. I hope he celebrates his birthday with a couple of hits and a Yankees win tonight.

Wangs celebrate birth of their child

Chien-Ming Wang are celebrating the birth of their first child this morning. Justin Jesse Wang came into this world this morning in NYC, he weighs in 7 pounds and 12 ounces. In Taiwanese culture a new baby is supposed to bring good luck to the parents so lets hope this is true when the proud father takes the mound as he is pitching for his life. Congratulations to the proud parents and lets hope JJ Wang brings some good luck to Chien. Peter Abraham had this on his blog so I will acknoledge the information from him. I don't think he could be pitching against a better team though to try and get his first win.

Bizarre ending to Subway Series

I must say I am pretty much speechless, I have never seen a game end the way it did tonight. The Yankees really have to thank the mets and kiss their lucky stars as they got a nice gift tonight. The Mets Luis Castillo dropped a pop up by A-rod in the bottom of the ninth that would of ended the game and instead became a 2 run walkoff error. The Yankees had just lost 3 straight to Boston and were about to go down to the Mets when boom a dropped pop up happened. I really don't know what to say because I have never seen anything like that before and I have seen lots of baseball games in my lifetime. Joba Chamberlain got the start and just had no command, he walked 5 and hit 2. Brett Tomko came on in the fifth and wasn't good at all, the first batter he faced was a fly ball that Nick Swisher turned into a double and then the barrage began as Tomko just couldn't get anyone out. Mariano Rivera came in to the 8th inning in a tie game and gave it up again with a walk and a rbi double. Phil Coke was the only guy that came in and gave up nothing in 1 1/3 innings. The offensive star was Mark Teixeira, yes he hit a long homerun but he is remembered for running hard on what should of been the last out and scored the winning run, young guys take notice, that is how you should play the game and why Mark Teixeira is a true pro. Big Tex is truly everything you could want in a ballplayer and you have to love that. Derek Jeter hit a solo homerun and Hideki Matsui hit another homerun on his birthday a 3 run shot. Robinson Cano also hit a homerun. The Yankees will send Andy Pettitte to the hill tomorrow looking for some length out of him, as the bullpen is pretty much shot. Brian Bruney will pitch in Trenton tomorrow and then should be ready to go if everything is ok.
