The Yankees win their fourth game in a row

The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night by the score of 6-4. The game took place at Yankees stadium in the Bronx,NY. Phil Hughes started for the Yankees and pitched brilliantly. The only blemish in the game for the Yankees was Cory Wade making it interesting in the ninth inning. Rafael Soriano picked up an easy two pitch save. The Yankees were able to score some runs without the homerun ball. They generated five of the six runs without a homerun. Justin Masterson started for the Indians and didn’t pitch so well. They didn’t hit until the ninth inning. 
Hughes pitched eight innings giving up no runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out four. Hughes won his eighth game of the season. Cory Wade pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and four runs and Soriano pitched 1/3 of an inning retiring the batter on two pitches. It was his 16th save of the season. Masterson fell to 4-7 on the season pitching six innings giving up seven hits and four runs. He walked three and struck out two. Tony Sipp pitched one inning giving up one hit and one run and Nick Hagadone pitched one inning giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout.

Derek Jeter celebrating his 38th birthday had two hits. Curtis Granderson had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Alex Rodriguez had a hit, RBI and drew a walk and Robinson Cano had a hit. Mark Teixeira had a walk and an RBI, Nick Swisher had two hits and Andruw Jones had a hit. DeWayne Wise had a hit and Chris Stewart had two hits and two RBI. Rodriguez hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-8 with runners in scoring position and they left eight men on base.

Shin-Soo Choo had a hit and drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and Jason Kipnis had a hit. Michael Brantley had a hit, Johnny Damon had two hits and an RBI and Casey Kotchman had a hit. Jack Hannahan had a hit, Jose Lopez had a hit and three RBI and Lonnie Chisenhall had a hit. Brantley and Kipnis each had a double and Lopez hit a homerun. The Indians were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and they left five men on base. Santana had a passed ball.

In the second inning Stewart had an RBI single and Granderson had a two run single to make it 3-0. In the fifth Teixeira hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0 Yankees. Rodriguez hit a solo homerun in the seventh to extend the lead to 5-0. Stewart would hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth to make it 6-0. The Indians would rally with two outs in the ninth. Damon hit an RBI single and Lopez hit a three run homerun which made it 6-4 and that would be the game.

The Yankees have now won four games in a row after losing three in a row. The Yankees record improved to 45-28. They have taken the first two games of this three game series which will conclude on Wednesday afternoon. The Indians record fell to 37-36. The Indians will try and salvage the final game of the series. The Yankees will then take on the Chicago White Sox for four games beginning on Thursday night at home. The Yankees are in the middle of hope week and after this homestand they will travel to Tampa Bay and Boston and then have the All Star Break. The Yankees have won 14 of their last 17 games and have the best record in baseball in the month of June.
