CC fails to get 20
The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays by the score of 13-4 tonight. CC Sabathia only lasted 2 2/3 innings giving up 9 runs, 5 earned. He just didn't have his fastball command at all and was terrible. I guess the good thing is you want to get a bad one out of the way before the postseason. I am sure it was hard for him to focus on a individual goal rather then winning for the team. He will get to redeem himself in game 1 one Wed at Yankee Stadium. He will set the tone for the series and I would hate to be his opponent as I am sure he will be very angry and focused. The Yankees have nothing to play for and just wanted to remain healthy, they suffered a scare in the first inning when Mark Teixeira was hit in the hand and stayed down on the ground for a while. It was originally thought that it hit him in the shoulder but he said it grazed his hand and he was scared and wanted to make sure he had all his faculties before he got up. I don't know if it was on purpose or not but it could have been retaliation for Carlos Pena getting hit on the wrist and breaking it last time these two teams met at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees will send out Andy Pettitte tomorrow for his final tuneup before the playoffs.

Yanks keep rolling
The New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners tonight by the score of 4-2. Andy Pettitte got the start and pitched great going 7 innings giving up 6 hits and 2 runs with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. Alfredo Aceves came in to get one out and then Phil Coke got a groundout and strikeout. Mariano Rivera had a 1-2-3 ninth for his 20th save of the year and 502nd of his career. Phil Hughes was warming up but I found it very strange that Alfredo Aceves pitched in the 8th, why not Phil Hughes???
The offense was led by A-rod hitting a 2 run homerun, he also had a single. Mark Teixeira had 2 hits, Derek Jeter had a hit and Johnny Damon had a hit, rbi and walk. Robinson Cano and Nick Swisher each had a hit and Melky Cabrera hit a solo homerun. The Yankees were crisp defensively making no errors. The Yankees are really on a roll now and will look for the sweep tomorrow with CC Sabathia on the mound. Jose Molina is going to start a rehab assignment with Scranton tomorrow.

Yanks/Rangers recap
The Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers by the score of 8-6 today. Chien-Ming Wang got the start and looked good in his first 2 innings but then gave up 5 runs in the next 2 2/3 innings. He gave up 7 hits with a walk and 5 strikeouts. It was better but I wouldn't call it good at all. His next start will be on Tuesday in Boston which could be bad as he has always struggled with Boston. The Yankees offense picked Wang up though with Melky Cabrera hitting a game winning 2 run homerun in the 8th inning.
Mark Teixeira had a couple of hits and 3 rbi's and A-rod had a rbi single. Robinson Cano had a hit and a walk, Cervelli and Pena had a hit each. Johnny Damon led off the game with a homerun and also had a walk. Nick Swisher had 2 hits and a rbi. Dave Robertson got the winning by getting one batter out. Alfredo Aceves gave up one run in 1 2/3 innings and Phil Coke was impressive in 1 1/3 getting 2 strikeouts with no hits or walks. MO got the save in the ninth after giving up a couple of hits. The New York Yankees will take on the Tampa Bay Rays in a 4 game wraparound series beginning tomorrow night at the stadium.

Yankees minor leagues
The Trenton Thunder AA affiliate of the New York Yankees opened their season last night, losing to the Binghamton Mets by the score of 5-3. Erik Hacker got the start and went 5 1/3 innings giving up 6 hits and 1 run with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. He was in camp with the major league club this year and Jorge Posada said he is a guy to watch for. The other Yankee pitchers didn't fare so well Kevin Whelan pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up 2 hits and 2 runs with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts and Mike Dunn pitched 2 innings giving up 4 hits, 2 runs only 1 of which was earned and 5 strikeouts. He was also in major league camp and did impress some, he is worth watching but I am not sure how much of a prospect he is, he was converted to a reliever from starting. The offensive side didn't produce much as no player had more then 1 hit, Colin Curtis did have a double and Eduardo Nunez had a hit. I am not too sure how many legit position prospects are at this level, I think you can look more at AAA and A for that.
The rest of the minor league affiliates kick off their seasons tonight. The Scranton Yankees play Lehigh Valley with Jason Johnson making the start. Austin Jackson will be in CF and they also have Shelly Duncan to watch.

New York Mets Recap
The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves by a score of 12-1 today. John Maine got the start and got rocked, I wonder if the Mets are starting to worry about him. He threw 4 innings giving up 5 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks. Nelson Figueroa also had a rough day going 1 inning giving up 5 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks. Ron Villone pitched 1 inning giving up 2 runs on 3 hits.
Bobby Kielty had the best day for the offense going 3-4 with a rbi, Nick Evans was 1-4. Ryan Church was 2-3. Daniel Murphy was 0-3.
