The New York Yankees were defeated by the score of 3-0 to the Tampa Bay Rays. The game took place
on Wednesday night at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. Andy Pettitte started for the Yankees
and he pitched well but their offense didn't do anything.
Pettitte pitched six innings giving up three runs and only two were earned. He gave up seven hits, walking
one batter and striking out ten. Pettitte took his first loss of the season. Shawn Kelley pitched two innings
giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.
Brett Gardner had a hit, Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and Travis Hafner drew a walk. Eduardo Nunez had a hit,
Jayson Nix had a hit and the Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and they left four men on
base. Boesch committed an error.
Alex Cobb earned his third win of the season pitching 8 1/3 innings giving up no runs on three hits with a
walk. Cobb struck out seven batters. Fernando Rodney earned his third save of the season pitching 2/3 of
an inning giving up a hit.
Desmond Jennings had a hit, Ben Zobrist had two hits and two RBI and Sean Rodriguez had two hits and
an RBI. James Loney drew a walk, Yunel Escobar had a hit and Sam Fuld had a hit. Shelly Duncan drew
a walk, Kelly Johnson had a hit and Zobrist hit a double. Rodriguez hit a homerun and the Rays were 1-7
with runners in scoring position and they left eight men on base.
Zobrist hit a two run doublen the fifth giving the Rays a 2-0 lead. In the sixth Rodriguez hit a solo homerun
to extend the lead to 3-0 and that would be the final score. The Rays took two out of three in the series
and the Yankees record dropped to 11-9. The Rays record improved to 10-11. The Yankees head home
to begin a four game series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday night.

CC has rough first inning and the Yankees can't recover as they fall to the Tampa Bay Rays
The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays by the score of 5-1 on Monday night. The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and had a very rough first inning giving up four runs and four hits. He settled down after that but it was too late. Matt Moore started for the Rays and he pitched great. Robinson Cano was the only guy that did anything offensively for the Yankees.
Sabathia pitched seven innings giving up five runs on seven hits. He walked two and struck out eight. Adam Warren pitched a 1-2-3 inning.
Brett Gardner drew two walks, Cano had two hits and an RBI and Eduardo Nunez drew a walk. Cano hit a homerun, the Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Sabathia committed an error and had a pickoff.

New York Yankees postgame notes after a series in Toronto
The New York Yankees lose the game 8-4 today but they took two out of three in Toronto. The Yankees have been winning series lately and that is the most important thing. If you keep winning series then come September you will be right in a race for the playoffs and that is what you want.
Ivan Nova started today for the Yankees and was just ok. He wasn’t terrible but he also wasn’t good. He hasn’t been a very good pitcher overall to this point. Girardi said that he thought he threw the ball pretty well but that last inning he pitched was an inning they needed and he couldn’t get it done. Nova said that he isn’t throwing strikes and that is making him mad. He said he knows he can do better then this. He isn’t blaming anyone or anything just not making his pitches is what he is saying.
If you are into the win losses thing then this isn’t a good day for you. Boone Logan gave up a broken bat single to the only batter he faced and took the loss. David Phelps for the second straight outing wasn’t very good. He said he is frustrated and that he is getting behind guys without anyone on base, he just isn’t making pitches and not putting guys away when he needs too.
Travis Hafner tried to bunt on the last out of the game. Girardi said he didn’t have a problem with it. He said if it was a two run game he probably would have had a problem with it but not down four runs. He said they just needed base runners and however they felt they could get on. Hafner had the whole left side of the infield open and he tried to take advantage of it. Hafner also stole a base in this game which was his 10th career. He said it was a milestone joking after the game.
Vernon Wells has reached base in seven straight games. Robinson Cano has reached base in 15 of the 17 games played this season. Girardi said Youkilis is much better and will probably play against Tampa Bay tomorrow.

The New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals by the score of 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched well and so did the bullpen. The Mets only managed four hits but two of them were RBI hits.
Gee pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up three hits and three walks with six strikeouts. Gee picked up his first win of the season. LaTroy Hawkins faced one batter and struck him out, Brandon Lyon pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Scott Rice gave up a hit in one inning and walked one and struck out one. Bobby Parnell picked up his second save pitching a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts.
