The New York Mets are shutout by the Philadelphia Phillies

The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 4-0 on Friday night. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched ok. The Mets offense only managed three hits. 
Gee pitched six innings giving up seven hits and four runs with a walk and four strikeouts. Gee picked up his fourth loss of the season. Jeurys Familia pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Josh Edgin pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts.

Ruben Tejada had a hit, David Wright had a hit and Ike Davis drew a walk. Justin Turner had a hit, the Mets were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and they left four men on base. Gee had a pickoff.

Kyle Kendrick started for the Phillies and pitched the complete game shutout. He gave up three hits and a walk with five strikeouts to pick up his second win of the season.

Jimmy Rollins had a hit and drew a walk, Chase Utley had a hit and Michael Young had three hits and an RBI. Ryan Howard had a hit and three RBI, Lance Nix had a hit and Kratz had a hit and drew a walk. Nix hit a double and Howard hit a homerun. The Phillies were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Rollins was picked off.

The Phillies scored four runs in the sixth inning to take the 4-0 lead and that would be the final score. Young hit an RBI single and Howard a three run homerun.

The Mets record dropped to 10-11 on the season and the Phillies record improved to 10-14 on the season. The two teams will play game two of the three game series on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Yankees suffer more injuries and keep fighting, defeat the Toronto Blue Jays

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 6-4 on Friday night. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. The Yankees starting battery left the game due to injuries. They lost what had become their starting catcher Francisco Cervelli to a broken hand after taking a ball off of it. Ivan Nova left just a little while later after experiencing pain in his elbow. Nova is set to undergo an MRI and the Yankees should know in the next day or two what is going to happen with him. 
Ivan Nova pitched two innings giving up giving up four hits and two runs. He walked none and struck out two. David Phelps pitched four strong innings in relief. Phelps is on the same day as Nova so he could slide right into the rotation if Nova has to go on the disabled list. Phelps got the win giving up two hits and a run with two walks and nine strikeouts. Joba Chamberlain pitched a scoreless inning, David Robertson pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run and Mariano Rivera earned his eighth save of the season. Rivera pitched an inning giving up three hits and striking out two.

Brett Gardner had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Jayson Nix drew two walks and Robinson Cano had a hit and drew a walk. Vernon Wells had two hits and an RBI, Chris Stewart drew two walks and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and drew a walk. Eduardo Nunez had an RBI and made a couple of defensive gems, Lyle Overbay had a hit and an RBI and Ben Francisco drew a walk. Travis Hafner drew two walks, Cano hit a double and Overbay hit a triple. Gardner hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and they left nine men on base. Stewart had a passed ball.

In the second the Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead on a Encarnacion solo homerun. The Yankees tied the game at one in the second on a Nunez RBI groundout. Rasmus hit an RBI single in the third to give the Jays a 2-1 lead. In the third Wells hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at two. Overbay hit an RBI triple in the fourth to make it 3-2 and a wild pitch would make it 4-2 Yankees. Encarnacion hit his second homerun of the game in the sixth to make it 4-3 and the Yankees would get a run to make it 5-3 in the seventh. The Jays would get a homerun from Bautista in the eighth to make it 5-4 and then Gardner would hit a homerun in the eighth to make it 6-4 which would be the final score.

The Yankees have won the first two of this four game series. The Yankees record improved to 13-9 and the Jays record fell to 9-14. The two teams will play game three of the four game series on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Mets lose the rubber game matinee to the Los Angeles Dodgers

The New York Mets lost by the score of 3-2 on Thursday afternoon to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Jeremy Hefner started for the Mets and pitched well, his best game of the season. There wasn’t a Mets player who had more then one hit and they only managed five hits as a team. 
Hefner pitched seven innings giving up three hits and a run. He walked three and struck out four. Brandon Lyon pitched 2/3 of an inning retiring both batters that he faced, Scott Rice took the loss pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and Bobby Parnell pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit.

Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit and drew a walk and David Wright had an RBI and drew a walk. Lucas Duda had a hit, Marlon Byrd had a hit and Ike Davis had a hit and an RBI. Colin Cowgill drew a walk, Byrd hit a double and Davis hit a homerun. The Mets were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Byrd had an outfield assist

Hyun-Jin Ryu pitched seven innings giving up three hits and a run. He walked three and struck out eight. Kenley Jansen picked up the win his first of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Brandon League picked up his sixth save of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.

Carl Crawford had a hit, Nick Punto had a hit and Matt Kemp had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk. Andre Ethier had a hit and an RBI, Juan Uribe had a hit and an RBI with three walks and Punto hit a double. The Dodgers were 3-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Sellers committed an error.

Kemp hit an RBI single in the first giving the Dodgers a 1-0 lead. David Wright hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth to tie the game at one. In the ninth Ethier hit an RBI single and Uribe hit an RBI single to make it 3-1 Dodgers. Davis hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the ninth to make it 3-2 but that was the final score.

The Mets dropped two out of three in the series and their record overall fell to 10-10. The Dodgers record improved to 10-11 on the season. The Mets will begin a three game series with the Philadelphia Phillies at home on Friday night.

New York Yankees earn the victory over the Toronto Blue Jays

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 5-3. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Hiroki Kuroda started for the Yankees and pitched well after a rough start. The bullpen was great and Robinson Cano and Vernon Wells each homered for the Yankees. 
Kuroda pitched six innings giving up three runs on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Kuroda earned his third victory of the season. Joba Chamberlain pitched an inning giving up a hit, David Robertson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Mariano Rivera earned his seventh save of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts.

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Ben Francisco had a hit and Cano had a hit and three RBI. Wells had a hit and an RBI, Francisco Cervelli had a hit and an RBI and Ichiro Suzuki had a couple of hits. Mark Buehrle took the loss pitching 5 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs with three strikeouts. Buehrle took his first loss of the season, Brad Lincoln pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Brett Cecil pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.

Rajai Davis had a hit, Kawasaki had a hit and Jose Bautista drew a walk. Edward Encarnacion had a hit and two RBI, Melky Cabrera had a hit and J.P. Arencibia had a hit. Brett Lawrie had two hits and an RBI, Kawasaki hit a double, Encarnacion and Lawrie each hit a homerun. The Blue Jays were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.

In the first Encarnacion hit a two run homerun to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead. Lawrie hit a solo homerun in the second to extend the Blue Jays lead to 3-0. Wells hit a solo homerun in the second to make it 3-1 Blue Jays. In the bottom of the third Cano hit a three run homerun to make it 4-3 Yankees and they added a run in the fourth on a Cervelli solo homerun and that completed the scoring. The Yankees won the game 5-3.

The Yankees record improved to 12-9 on the season and the Blue Jays record fell to 9-14. The two teams will play game two of the four game series on Friday night.

The New York Mets even the series with the Los Angeles Dodgers with an extra inning win

The New York Mets defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers by the score of 7-3 on Wednesday night. 

The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York.  Matt Harvey started and was good but not as

good as he has been.  Harvey has been must see television this season as he is quickly becoming a star. 

Lucas Duda led the Mets offense with two hits and Jordany Valdespin had four RBI. 

Harvey pitched six innings giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and seven strikeouts.  LaTroy

Hawkins pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Scott Rice pitched 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout and Scott

Atchison pitched 2/3 of an inning walking a batter.  Bobby Parnell earned the win pitching an inning walking

one batter and striking out a batter. 

Ruben Tejada had a hit and an RBI, Daniel Murphy had a hit and David Wright had a hit, an RBI and drew

a walk.  John Buck had a hit, Ike Davis had a hit and drew a walk and Marlon Byrd had a hit and drew a

walk.  Duda had two hits and drew two walks, Juan Lagares drew a walk and Valdespin had a hit and four

RBI.  Harvey had a hit, Justin Turner had an RBI and Mike Baxter had a hit.  Duda, Harvey, Byrd and

Baxter each hit a double.  Valdespin hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-14 with runners in scoring position

and left nine men on base.  Wright had a stolen base and was caught stealing. 

Ted Lilly started for the Dodgers and pitched five innings giving up six hits and a run with two walks and

seven strikeouts.  J.P. Howell pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a run and two walks, Ronald Belisario

pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no runs and no hits and struck out two and Kenley Jansen pitched an inning

giving up a hit and struck out one.  Brandon League blew a save pitching an inning giving up two hits and a

run.  Josh Wall took the loss pitching 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and four runs with two walks. 

Mark Ellis had a hit, Adrian Gonzalez had a hit and drew a walk and Matt Kemp had a hit, three RBI and

drew a walk.  Andre Ethier ahd a hit, A.J. Ellis drew a walk and Kemp hit a homerun.  The Dodgers were

0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

The Dodgers took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Kemp ground out.  Tejada hit an RBI single in the fifth to

tie the game at one.  In the sixth Kemp hit a homerun on a play that was reviewed and overturned, it made

it 3-1 Dodgers.  Turner hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-2 in the sixth.  In the ninth Wright hit an RBI single to

tie the game at three and send it to extra innings.  In the tenth Valdespin hit a walk off grand slam to win it

for the Mets and make the final score 7-3. 

The Mets record improved to 10-9 and the Dodgers dropped to 9-11.  The two teams will play the rubber

game of the series on Thursday afternoon.
