New York Yankees win on a walk-off over the Blue Jays

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen was good and Gleyber Torres led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Cole pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up four hits and no runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Ron Marinaccio pitched an inning with a walk, Clay Holmes pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and Wandy Peralta pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and tow runs with a walk.  Jimmy Cordero earned his first win of the season pitching to two batters and retiring them both. 

Alek Manoah started for the Blue Jays and he pitched seven innings giving up two hits and no runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Yimi Garcia pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs and Jordan Romano pitched giving up three hits and a run with a walk and he didn’t record an out.  Romano lost his first game of the season. 

Anthony Volpe had a hit and two RBI, Anthony Rizzo had a hit and Torres had two hits.  Willie Calhoun drew a walk, DJ LeMahieu had a hit and an RBI and Oswaldo Cabrera had a hit.  Oswald Peraza had a hit and drew a walk, Cabrera and Rizzo each hit a double and Volpe hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Cabrera and Peraza each had a stolen base. 

George Springer had a hit and a walk, Bo Bichette had a hit and Vlad Guerrero Jr. had a hit and drew a walk.  Daulton Varsho had a hit, Alejandro Kirk had a hit and drew two walks and Danny Jansen had a hit and two RBI.  Whit Merrifield had a hit, Guerrero Jr., Kirk and Bichette each hit a double and Jansen hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Varsho had a stolen base and Springer was caught stealing.  Kirk committed an error. 

In the bottom of the eighth Volpe hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the top of the ninth Jansen hit a two-run homerun to tie the game.  In the bottom of the ninth LeMahieu hit a pinch hit walk-off RBI single to give the Yankees a 3-2 victory. 

The two teams will play game three the rubber game of the series on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon. The final score was 1-0 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched well, the bullpen was excellent. Daniel Murphy and Travis d’Arnaud who each had two hits led the Mets offense.

Gee pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up six hits and no runs. He walked two and struck out eight. Pedro Feliciano pitched 1/3 of an inning walking one, Scott Atchison pitched to one batter and retired him and LaTroy Hawkins pitched an inning giving up a hit. Gonzalez Germen pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out five and Vic Black picked up his first win pitching a perfect inning.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Juan Lagares drew a walk and Murphy had two hits. Lucas Duda drew a walk, Wilmer Flores had a hit and d’Arnaud had two hits and an RBI. Gee had a hit, Young hit a double and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Murphy was picked off and committed an error.

Tom Koehler pitched eight innings giving up three hits and no runs with no walks and five strikeouts. A.J. Ramos pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Mike Dunn pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Chad Qualls pitched an inning giving up a hit and a strikeout. Zach Phillips gave up a hit and a run with two walks and didn’t record an out and Ryan Webb pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit.

Chris Coughlan had a hit and drew a walk, Donovan Solano had a hit and Christian Yelich drew a walk. Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk, Justin Ruggiano had two hits and Logan Morrison had two hits. Ed Lucas had two hits, Ruggiano hit a double and Morrison hit a triple. The Marlins were 0-12 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. Ruggiano was caught stealing and Koehler had a pickoff.

In the 12th inning d’Arnaud hit an RBI single to win the game. It was the only run of the game as the Mets won 1-0 in 12 innings.

The Mets record improved to 67-82 and the Marlins record fell to 55-94. The Mets will have the day off on Monday.

The Mets win on a walkoff homerun to beat the Kansas City Royals


The New York Mets defeated the Kansas City Royals on Friday night. The final score was 4-2 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched well, the bullpen pitched pretty well. Ike Davis had three hits and Eric Young Jr. and David Wright each had two hits and two RBI.

Gee pitched seven innings giving up three hits and a run. He walked two and struck out four. Scott Rice pitched to one batter and retired him, LaTroy Hawkins pitched to two batters and retired them both and David Aardsma pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks. Pedro Feliciano pitched to one batter and retired him and Torres won his second game of the season pitching two innings giving up two hits and he struck out one.

Young had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Juan Lagares had a hit and Wright had two hits and two RBI. Marlon Byrd had a hit and drew a walk, Davis had three hits and drew a walk and Omar Quintanilla had two hits and drew a walk. Davis hit a double; Wright and Young each hit a homerun. The Mets were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. Davis committed an error.

Wade Davis pitched five innings giving up eight hits and two runs with five strikeouts. Kelvin Herrera pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two, Louis Coleman pitched two innings striking out three and Aaron Crow pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. Luis Mendoza pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with two walks.

Eric Hosmer had a hit, Salvador Perez had a hit and an RBI and David Lough had a hit. Miguel Tejada had a hit, Alcides Escobar drew a walk and Elliot Johnson drew a walk. Billy Butler drew a walk, Mendoza had a hit and Justin Maxwell had a hit. Lorenzo Cain had an RBI and drew a walk, Tejada hit a double and the Royals were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. Lough and Johnson each had a stolen base.

Wright hit a two run homerun in the first giving the Mets a 2-0 lead. Perez grounded into a force out in the eighth inning to cut the lead to 2-1. In the ninth the Royals tied the game at two on a Cain sacrifice fly. The Mets won the game in the 11th on a two run walkoff homerun by Young Jr.

The Mets record improved to 49-58 and the Royals record dropped to 54-52. The two teams will play game two of the three game series on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Yankees suffer their first loss of the season when scoring the games first run

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles by the score of 3-2 on Tuesday night. The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland. Phil Hughes made the start and didn’t pitch bad and the bullpen was good. Vidal Nuno gave up a walk off homerun in the tenth inning. The Yankees offense didn’t do much.

Hughes pitched six innings giving up two runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out five. Boone Logan pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one, Shawn Kelley faced one batter and got him out and David Robertson struck out the side in his one inning of work. Preston Claiborne pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Nuno gave up a hit and a run to the only batter that he faced which ended the game.

Brett Gardner had a hit, Vernon Wells had a hit and Travis Hafner had two hits and two RBI. David Adams had a hit, Gardner and Wells each hit a double and the Yankees were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.

Miguel Gonzalez pitched seven innings giving up five hits and two runs with five strikeouts. Tommy Hunter pitched two perfect innings with a strikeout and Jim Johnson picked up his second win of the season pitching a perfect inning.

McClouth had two hits and an RBI, Manny Machado had a hit and Nick Markakis had a hit. Chris Davis drew a walk, Chris Dickerson had three hits and two RBI and Navarro had a hit and drew a walk. Dickerson hit two homeruns and McClouth hit a homerun. The Orioles were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

Hafner hit an RBI single in the first inning giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead. In the third inning Dickerson hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one. Hafner hit an RBI single in the fourth giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead. Dickerson hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two in the fifth inning. McClouth hit a walk off homerun in the tenth inning to give the Orioles a 3-2 win.

The Yankees ended their three game winning streak and dropped their record to 28-17. The Orioles record improved to 24-21. The two teams will play the rubber game of their three game series on Wednesday night.

Matt Harvey sparkles as the Mets walkoff with a 1-0 win in ten innings

The New York Mets defeated the Chicago White Sox by the score of 1-0 on Tuesday night. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Matt Harvey started and pitched brilliantly. Mike Baxter was the hero in this game with the game winning hit. 
Harvey pitched nine shutout and one hit innings. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out 12 which was one of the best pitching performances of all-time. Bobby Parnell pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. He got the win and is now 3-0 on the season.

Ruben Tejada had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and David Wright drew a walk. Andre Brown drew a walk, Ike Davis had a hit and drew a walk and Juan Lagares had a hit. Baxter had a hit and an RBI, the Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Murphy was caught stealing.

Alex Rios had a hit, he was the only base runner of the game for the White Sox. They left one man on base and that was it.

In the tenth Baxter had an RBI single to win the game. This was a very well pitched game on both sides with not much offensive action.

The Mets record improved to 13-16 and the White Sox record dropped to 13-18. The two teams will play game two of their brief two game series on Wednesday night

The New York Mets even the series with the Los Angeles Dodgers with an extra inning win

The New York Mets defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers by the score of 7-3 on Wednesday night. 

The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York.  Matt Harvey started and was good but not as

good as he has been.  Harvey has been must see television this season as he is quickly becoming a star. 

Lucas Duda led the Mets offense with two hits and Jordany Valdespin had four RBI. 

Harvey pitched six innings giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and seven strikeouts.  LaTroy

Hawkins pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Scott Rice pitched 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout and Scott

Atchison pitched 2/3 of an inning walking a batter.  Bobby Parnell earned the win pitching an inning walking

one batter and striking out a batter. 

Ruben Tejada had a hit and an RBI, Daniel Murphy had a hit and David Wright had a hit, an RBI and drew

a walk.  John Buck had a hit, Ike Davis had a hit and drew a walk and Marlon Byrd had a hit and drew a

walk.  Duda had two hits and drew two walks, Juan Lagares drew a walk and Valdespin had a hit and four

RBI.  Harvey had a hit, Justin Turner had an RBI and Mike Baxter had a hit.  Duda, Harvey, Byrd and

Baxter each hit a double.  Valdespin hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-14 with runners in scoring position

and left nine men on base.  Wright had a stolen base and was caught stealing. 

Ted Lilly started for the Dodgers and pitched five innings giving up six hits and a run with two walks and

seven strikeouts.  J.P. Howell pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a run and two walks, Ronald Belisario

pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no runs and no hits and struck out two and Kenley Jansen pitched an inning

giving up a hit and struck out one.  Brandon League blew a save pitching an inning giving up two hits and a

run.  Josh Wall took the loss pitching 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and four runs with two walks. 

Mark Ellis had a hit, Adrian Gonzalez had a hit and drew a walk and Matt Kemp had a hit, three RBI and

drew a walk.  Andre Ethier ahd a hit, A.J. Ellis drew a walk and Kemp hit a homerun.  The Dodgers were

0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

The Dodgers took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Kemp ground out.  Tejada hit an RBI single in the fifth to

tie the game at one.  In the sixth Kemp hit a homerun on a play that was reviewed and overturned, it made

it 3-1 Dodgers.  Turner hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-2 in the sixth.  In the ninth Wright hit an RBI single to

tie the game at three and send it to extra innings.  In the tenth Valdespin hit a walk off grand slam to win it

for the Mets and make the final score 7-3. 

The Mets record improved to 10-9 and the Dodgers dropped to 9-11.  The two teams will play the rubber

game of the series on Thursday afternoon.

The New York Mets win and take the series from the Miami Marlins in dramatic fashion

The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins by the score of 4-3 on Sunday afternoon. Aaron Laffey started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch great but he also was able to limit the damage. The Mets bullpen was great and Daniel Murphy led the offense with a multiple hit game. Marlon Byrd provided the game winning hit. 
Laffey pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up 10 hits and three runs with a walk and five strikeouts. Greg Burke pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up one hit and striking out three, Josh Edgin pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Scott Atchison pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one. LaTroy Hawkins pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Scott Rice earned his first win pitching an inning giving up two walks.

Murphy had two hits and an RBI, David Wright drew two walks and Ike Davis drew a walk. Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew a walk, Anthony Recker had a hit and an RBI and Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit. Byrd had a hit and two RBI, Recker hit a double and Murphy hit a homerun. The Mets were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.

Jose Fernandez pitched five innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and eight strikeouts. A.J. Ramos pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Jon Rauch pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two and Mike Dunn pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two. Steve Cishek blew a save and took the loss pitching 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs.

Juan Pierre had a hit, Donovan Solano had three hits and an RBI and Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk. Gregg Dobbs had two hits and drew a walk, Justin Ruggiano had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Rob Brantly had a hit. Adeiny Hechavarria had two hits and drew a walk, Chris Valaika had two hits and an RBI, Ruggiano, Valaika, Solano, and Brantly each hit a double. The Marlins were 2-14 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.

In the third Ruggiano hit an RBI double to give Miami the 1-0 lead. Miami took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning when Valaika hit an RBI double and Solano hit an RBI double. Recker hit an RBI double for the Mets in the fifth to make it 3-1 Marlins. In the sixth Murphy hit a solo homerun to make it a 3-2 game. In the ninth Byrd hit a two run single to make it 4-3 Mets and win the game in walkoff fashion.

The Mets won the series two out of three and are now 4-2 on the season. The Marlins record dropped to 1-5. The Mets will play at Philadelphia on Monday night and the Marlins will be home to host the Atlanta Braves on Monday night.
