New York Yankees are shutout in Baltimore



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 8-0.  Chad Green started for the Yankees but left with an injury in the second inning.  The Yankees bullpen was both good and bad and the offense didn't do anything. 

Green pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and three strikeouts and he took his fourth loss of the season.  Nick Goody pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with two strikeouts, Kirby Yates pitched two innings giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts and Jonathan Holder pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Luis Severino pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Blake Parker pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Dylan Bundy pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up two hits and no runs with four walks and five strikeouts.  He won his eighth game of the season.  Donnie Hart pitched 1 1/3 innings retiring all of the batters that he faced, Vance Worley pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Tommy Hunter pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and Gary Sanchez drew a walk.  Mark Teixeira drew a walk, Chase Headley drew a walk and the Yankees were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Gardner was picked off. 

Adam Jones had two hits and an RBI, Pedro Alvarez had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Manny Machado had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks.  Chris Davis had a hit and two RBI, Mark Trumbo had two hits and an RBI and Matt Wieters had a hit.  J.J. Hardy had a hit, Ryan Flaherty had a hit and Hardy, Wieters and Flaherty each hit a double.  Alvarez, Davis, Trumbo and Machado each hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Wieters had a pickoff. 

In the second Jones hit an RBI single, Alvarez hit a two run homerun, Davis hit a two runs homerun and Trumbo hit a solo homerun to give the Orioles a 6-0 lead.  In the fourth Machado hit a two run homerun and it was 8-0 Orioles which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.   

The New York Mets lose to the Washington Nationals

The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-1.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and he pitched well, the offense couldn't get much going. 

Syndergaard pitched seven innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  He lost his eighth game of the season.  Fernando Salas pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two, Jerry Blevins pitched giving up two hits and two runs without recording an out and Hansel Robles pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one. 

A.J. Cole pitched six innings giving up three hits and a run with two walks and five strikeouts.  He won his first game of the season.  Marc Rzepczynski pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two, Koda Glover pitched an inning striking out two and Oliver Perez pitched to one batter and struck him out.  Mark Melancon pitched an inning giving up a hit and he saved his 38th game of the season. 

Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Jay Bruce had a hit and Wilmer Flores drew a walk.  Alejandro De Aza had a hit, Rene Rivera drew a walk and Cabrera hit a homerun.  The Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Trea Turner had two hits, Daniel Murphy had a hit and drew a walk and Bryce Harper had two hits and an RBI.  Anthony Rendon had a hit and two RBI, Wilson Ramos had two hits and an RBI and Harper hit two doubles.  The Nationals were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Turner had two stolen bases and Murphy and Harper each had a stolen base. 

In the first Harper hit a sac fly to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Ramos hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.  In the fourth Cabrera hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the ninth Rendon hit a two run single to push the lead to 4-1 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.

The New York Mets win third straight over the Miami Marlins



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-2.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and he pitched well and the bullpen was good.  The Mets had four batters with two hits each. 

Colon pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and two runs with only one of them being earned.  He walked none and struck out three.  Addison Reed won his fourth game of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and he earned his 44th save of the season.  

Jake Esch pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  Mike Dunn pitched 1 2/3  innings giving up no hits or runs, Kyle Barraclough pitched a perfect inning and A.J. Ramos pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with two walks and he lost his second game of the season. 

Yoenis Cespedes had two hits and drew a walk, Curtis Granderson drew three walks and Wilmer Flores had a hit and two RBI.  Jay Bruce had two hits, Travis d'Arnaud had two hits and drew a walk and Kelly Johnson had two hits and three RBI.  Johnson hit a double, Flores hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Reyes committed two errors and Colon had an error. 

Martin Prado had a hit, Christian Yelich had two hits and an RBI and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  J.T. Realmuto had three hits including a double and Yelich hit a homerun.  The Marlins were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the second Realmuto hit an RBI single to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.  In the second Flores hit a two run homerun to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  In the sixth Yelich hit a homerun to tie the game at two.  Johnson hit a three run double in the eighth to give the Mets a 5-2 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game four of four on Thursday night.   

The New York Yankees defeat the Kansas City Royals again in extra innings



The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Kaufmann Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri and the final score was 5-4 in 13 innings.  Luis Cessa started for the Yankees and he pitched ok and the bullpen was great.  Starlin Castro had three hits and a couple of RBI and Brett Gardner and Chase Headley each had two hits. 

Cessa pitched six innings giving up six hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out two.  Chasen Shreve pitched two innings walking one and striking out three, Tommy Layne pitched to one batter and retired him and Adam Warren pitched to two batters retiring them both.  Blake Parker pitched two innings walking one and striking out one, Ben Heller earned his first win pitching a perfect inning and Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a walk and he earned his seventh save of the season. 

Ian Kennedy pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Scott Alexander pitched 1 1/3  innings giving up a hit, Peter Moylan didn't record an out and Brian Flynn pitched to one batter and retired him.  Kelvin Herrera pitched a perfect inning, Brooks Pounders pitched two perfect innings striking out two and Chris Young pitched an inning giving up four hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout.   Young lost his ninth game of the season and Matt Strahm pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout. 

Gardner had two hits, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Gary Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk.  Mark Teixeira had a hit, Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI and Castro had three hits and two RBI.  Brian McCann had an RBI, Headley had two hits and drew a walk and Aaron Hicks drew a walk.  Sanchez hit a double, Castro hit a double and Castro hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Headley had a stolen base and Headley committed an error. 

Jarrod Dyson drew a walk, Cheslor Cuthbert had a hit and drew a walk and Eric Hosmer had a hit and an RBI.  Kendrys Morales had a hit and two RBI, Salvador Perez had two hits and Alex Gordon drew a walk.  Alcides Escobar had a hit and an RBI, Raul Mondesi Jr. drew a walk and Escobar hit a double.  Morales and Hosmer each hit a homerun and the Royals were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Dyson had a stolen base and Burns had two stolen bases.  Mondesi was caught stealing and Cuthbert and Orlando each committed an error. 

In the first Morales hit a two run homerun to give the Royals a 2-0 lead.  In the second Escobar hit an RBI double to push the lead to 3-0 and in the third Hosmer hit a solo homerun extending the Royals lead to 4-0.  In the sixth Gregorius hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 4-1.  Castro hit a two run homerun still in the sixth and the lead was cut to 4-3.  In the seventh Ellsbury hit a sac fly to tie the game at four.  In the 13th McCann hit a sac fly to make it 5-4 Yankees and that would be the final score of the game. 

The Yankees won two out of three in the series and will be off on Thursday before beginning an important series in Baltimore on Friday night.  The Yankees trail the Orioles by two games in the loss column for the second wild card heading into this series.

New York Yankees defeat the Kansas City Royals in extra innings


The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Kaufmann Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri and the final score was 5-4 in ten innings.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched well but had to leave after a long rain delay.  The Yankees bullpen was good and Jacoby Ellsbury had four hits to lead the offense. 
Tanaka pitched five innings giving up four hits and two runs with no walks and four strikeouts.  Adam Warren pitched giving up two hits and a run, Tommy Layne pitched to one batter and retired him and Tyler Clippard pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a unearned run and two walks with a strikeout.  Dellin Betances won his third game of the season pitching two innings and striking out two, Ben Heller pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Chasen Shreve earned his first save of the season pitching to two batters and striking out one. 
Edinson Volquez pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and four runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Brian Flynn pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out one, Chien-Ming Wang pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Peter Moylan pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit.  Matt Strahm pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings and Joakim Soria lost his sixth game of the season pitching an inning and giving up three hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts. 
Brett Gardner had two hits and drew three walks, Ellsbury had four hits and two RBI and Gary Sanchez had a hit.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Starlin Castro had a hit and Brian McCann had three hits.  Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI, Aaron Judge had a hit and two RBI and Tyler Austin drew a walk.  Ellsbury and Gardner each hit a double and Judge hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-16 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.  Castro and Sanchez each committed an error.  Gardner had an outfield assist. 
Jarrod Dyson had three hits and an RBI, Lorenzo Cain had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Eric Hosmer drew a walk.  Kendrys Morales had a hit and two RBI, Alex Gordon drew a walk and Alcides Escobar had a hit.  Raul Mondesi Jr. had a hit, Cain hit a double and Dyson hit a triple.  Morales hit a homerun and the Royals were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Cain, Mondesi and Dyson each had a stolen base. 
In the second Judge hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the second Ellsbury hit an RBI double to push the lead to 3-0.  Headley hit a sac fly in the third and the lead was now 4-0.  In the bottom of the third Dyson hit an RBI triple to cut the lead to 4-1.  Morales hit a solo homerun in the fourth to trim the lead to 4-2.  In the sixth Cain hit an RBI double and the lead was cut down to one run at 4-3.  Morales hit a sac fly in the eighth to tie the game up at four.  In the tenth Ellsbury hit an RBI single to break the tie and give the Yankees a 5-4 lead which would be the final score of the game.  The Yankees had lost two in a row coming into this game. 
The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Wednesday night which will be the rubber game.  The Yankees will then have an off day on Thursday before heading to Baltimore to take on the Orioles for three this weekend.
