New York Yankees take a commanding 2-0 series lead over the Minnesota Twins


The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins in Game 2 of the ALDS on Saturday evening.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-2.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched very well.  The Yankees bullpen also did a good job and Aaron Judge, Edwin Encarnacion, Didi Gregorius and Gio Urshela each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched five innings giving up a run on three hits.  He walked one and struck out seven and earned the win.  Tommy Khanle pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts, Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Tyler Lyons pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Jonathan Loaisiga pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts. 

Randy Dobnak pitched two innings giving up six hits and four runs with two walks.  Dobnak took the loss.  Tyler Duffey pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and four runs with a walk and a strikeout, Devin Smeltzer pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up two hits and three walks with four strikeouts and Cody Stashak  pitched 2/3 of an inning  giving up a hit and a walk.  Trevor May pitched to one batter and retired him, Sergio Romo pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Zack Littell pitched to one batter and retired him. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk, Judge had two hits and drew two walks and Brett Gardner had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Encarnacion had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Giancarlo Stanton had an RBI and drew a walk and Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI.  Gary Sanchez drew a walk, Gregorius had two hits, four RBI and drew a walk.  Urshela had two hits, LeMahieu hit a double and Gregorius hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 5-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. 

Nelson Cruz had a hit and drew a walk, Eddie Rosario had a hit and Mitch Garver had two hits and an RBI.  Luis Arraez had two hits and an RBI, Arraez hit two doubles and the Twins were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the first Encarnacion hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Stanton hit a sac fly to push the lead to 2-0.  Torres hit an RBI single and Gregorius hit a grand-slam and the lead was up to 7-0.  Gardner hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 8-0.  In the fourth Garver hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 8-1.  In the ninth Arraez hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 8-2 but that would be the final score.  The Yankees took a 2-0 series lead and head to Minnesota for Game 3 on Monday night with a chance to close out the series and move on to the ALCS.

New York Yankees take Game 1 of ALDS


The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins in Game 1 of the ALDS on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 10-4.  James Paxton started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen did their job and DJ LeMahieu led the offense with three hits and four RBI. 

Paxton pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Adam Ottavino pitched to one batter and walked him, Tommy Khanle earned the win pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Chad Green pitched 2/3 of an inning.  Zack Britton pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout, J.A. Happ pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one. 

Jose Berrios pitched four innings giving up four hits and three runs with one being earned.  He walked three and struck out six.  Zack Littell pitched giving up two runs and a walk, Tyler Duffey pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts and Cody Stashak pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs.  Kyle Gibson pitched an inning giving up a hit and three runs with three walks and a strikeout and Brusdar Graterol pitched an inning striking out two. 

LeMahieu had three hits and four RBI, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew two walks and Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI.  Edwin Encarnacion had two hits and an RBI, Giancarlo Stanton drew three walks and Gleyber Torres had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Gary Sanchez drew a walk, Didi Gregorius drew a walk and Encarnacion hit two doubles and Torres and LeMahieu each hit a double.  LeMahieu and Gardner each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-13 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Maybin had two stolen bases and Torres had a stolen base.  LeMahieu committed an error and Sanchez had a passed ball. 

Jorge Polanco had two hits, two RBI and drew two walks, Nelson Cruz had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks and Miguel Sano had a hit and an RBI.  Max Kepler drew two walks, Marwin Gonzalez had two hits and Luis Arraez had a hit.  Gonzalez and Arraez each hit a double.  Polanco, Cruz and Sano each hit a homerun and the Twins were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Polanco had a stolen base and Cron committed an error. 

In the first Polanco hit a solo homerun to give the Twins a 1-0 lead.  In the third Cruz hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0.  In the third Encarnacion hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1.  Torres grounded into a forceout but an error allowed two runs to score and give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the fifth Polanco hit an RBI single to tie the game at three.  In the bottom of the fifth Torres hit a two-run double to give the Yankees a 5-3 lead.  In the sixth Sano hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 5-4.  In the bottom of the sixth LeMahieu hit a solo homerun and Gardner hit a solo homerun extending the Yankees lead to 7-4.  In the bottom of the seventh LeMahieu hit a three-run double and it was 10-4 Yankees which would be the final score.  The Yankees take a 1-0 series lead and Game 2 will be played on Saturday evening at Yankee Stadium before switching to Minnesota for the next couple of games beginning on Monday night.

New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves


The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Saturday.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-0.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and he pitched well.  The Mets offense only managed four hits. 

Matz pitched six innings giving up two hits and no runs and walked five and struck out seven.  Matz won his 11th game of the season.  Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two, Brad Brach pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Edwin Diaz pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and saved his 26th game of the season. 

Mike Foltynewicz pitched four innings giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and five strikeouts and lost his sixth game of the season.  Max Fried pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with five strikeouts and Chris Martin pitched to one batter and struck him out. 

Brandon Nimmo drew a walk, Pete Alonso had a hit and an RBI and J.D. Davis drew a walk.  Amed Rosario had a hit, Todd Frazier had a hit and Rene Rivera had a hit and two RBI.  Rivera hit a homerun and Alonso hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-1 with runners in scoring position and left one man on base.  Rosario was caught stealing. 

Ozzie Albies had a hit, Freddie Freeman had a hit and drew a walk and Nick Markakis drew a walk.  Adam Duvall had two hits, Brian McCann drew two walks and Billy Hamilton drew a walk.  Duvall hit a triple and the Braves were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. 

In the third Alonso hit a three-run homerun and that was the only scoring in the game. 

Alonso set the rookie record with 53 homeruns and the Mets finished their season at 85-76 which is something to build on especially since they had such a poor first half and rallied in the second half of the season. 

New York Yankees lose their final regular season game to the Texas Rangers


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Texas Rangers on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Globe Life Park in Arlington and was the last game every played in the stadium and the final score was 6-1.  Chad Green was the opener for the Yankees and Masahiro Tanaka made his first relief appearance for the Yankees and they pitched well.  The Yankees offense only managed three hits. 

Green pitched an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with a walk and two strikeouts.  Tanaka lost his ninth game of the season pitching three innings giving up five hits and two runs with one being earned.  He walked one and struck out two.  Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk, Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and Zack Britton pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Lance Lynn won his 16th game of the season pitching 7 1/3 innings and giving up two hits and a run with a walk and ten strikeouts.  Jose Leclerc pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out three. 

Aaron Judge had a hit and an RBI, Clint Frazier had a hit and Brett Gardner drew a walk.  Gary Sanchez had a hit, Judge hit a homerun and the Yankees left three men on base.  Sanchez and Tanaka each committed an error. 

Shin-Soo Choo had a hit and drew three walks, Elvis Andrus had two hits and Willie Calhoun had a hit and an RBI.  Danny Santana had a hit and an RBI, Roughned Odor had a hit and Ronald Guzman had a hit and two RBI.  Delino DeShields had a hit, Jose Trevino had two hits and Choo hit a double.  The Rangers were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Choo had a stolen base and Andrus had two stolen bases. 

In the first Choo stole third base and scored on a throwing error to give them a 1-0 lead.  In the third Judge hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the bottom of the third a throwing error by Tanaka allowed Texas to take a 2-1 lead and then Santana hit an RBI single making it 3-1.  In the fifth Guzman hit a two-run single to push the lead to 5-1 and in the bottom of the sixth Calhoun hit a sac fly making it 6-1 which was the final score. 

The Texas Rangers are going home for the season and the Yankees will have a rest and open up the ALDS on Friday night at Yankee Stadium. 




The New York Yankees fall to the Texas Rangers


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Texas Rangers on Saturday.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he just had a three inning tune up where he pitched ok and the bullpen used a lot of guys and was up and down.  No player had more then a hit for the offense.

Severino pitched three innings giving up a hit and two runs with four walks and four strikeouts and lost his first game of the season.  David Hale, pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Tyler Lyons pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Luis Cessa pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and four runs with four walks and a strikeout.  Nestor Cortes Jr. pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and two runs, Ben Heller pitched an inning with a  strikeout and Cory Gearrin pitched an inning with a  walk and a strikeout. 

Luke Farrell pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run, Jonathan Hernandez pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Brett Martin pitched an inning giving up a hit.  Emmanuel Clase pitched two innings giving up two hits and a strikeout, Rafael Montero pitched an inning with three strikeouts and Jose Leclerc pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout.   

Aaron Judge had a hit, Clint Frazier drew a walk and Brett Gardner had an RBI.  Tyler Wade had a hit, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and Didi Gregorius had a hit and three RBI.  Gio Urshela had a hit, Austin Romine had a hit and Mike Ford had a hit and drew a walk.  Gregorius hit a double and Judge hit a triple and the Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Severino and Romine each committed an error and Judge had an outfield assist.  Cessa had a pickoff. 

Shin-Soo Choo had a hit and drew a walk, Elvis Andrus drew two walks and Willie Calhoun had an RBI and drew a walk.  Danny Santana drew two walks, Roughned Odor had two hits, six RBI and drew a walk and Scott Heineman had two hits and drew three walks.  Ronald Guzman had a hit and drew a walk, Jose Trevino had a hit and an RBI and Isiah Kiner-Falefa had two hits and an RBI.  Odor, Heineman and Trevino each hit a double.  Odor hit a homerun and the Rangers were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Choo had a stolen base, Santana had two stolen bases and Odor and Heineman each had a stolen base.  Odor was caught stealing and picked off. 

In the first Gardner hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Odor hit a two-run double to give them a 2-1 lead.  In the fourth Trevino hit an RBI double to push the lead to 3-1.  In the sixth Calhoun drew an RBI walk and Odor hit a grand slam to extend the lead to 8-1.  Kiner-Falefa hit an RBI single and it was 9-1.  In the ninth Gregorius hit a three-run double and the lead was cut to 9-4 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the third and final game of the series and final game of the regular season for the Yankees on Sunday afternoon.
