Yanks winning streak ends at 8
The New York Yankees lost to the Oakland A's today by the score of 6-4 ending their 8 game winning streak. Andy Pettitte got the start and was great through 6 innings, he ran into trouble in the 7th when he left with the bases loaded and the score tied at 1. Alfredo Aceves came in and got a popup and then had a 0-2 count but gave up a 2 run single and then proceeded to give up 3 more runs after that. The Yankees offense was nonexistent other then a Brett Gardner rbi triple until the 8th inning when Derek Jeter hit a 2 run homerun and Big Tex added a solo homerun. The Yankees had 1st and 2nd with no outs in the ninth but Jorge Posada grounded into a double play and Derek Jeter flew out to end the game. The Yankees will try and start a new winning streak tomorrow with Sergio Mitre on the mound, they also want to win this series before heading out on the road to face Tampa for 3, Chicago for 3 and Toronto for 2 and then coming home for 4 HUGE games against the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees after tomorrows game have a rough stretch and we will see how they react to that.
Derek Jeter tied Bernie Williams for 5th on the alltime Yankees list in games played, next up is Babe Ruth who he will pass in 9 more games.

Game 97: Athletics at Yankees
Here is the link to the notes and lineup via Peter Abraham's Lohud Yankees Blog. It is a beautiful day out and I want to get out there in the sun and do some swimming so that is why I left the link instead of typing everything out. The Yankees are rolling and going for their 9th straight this afternoon. Andy Pettitte will try and make it 2 straight strong starts after 2 straight bad ones before the break. The Yankees ended Hope Week yesterday and I am sure all you Yankee fans out there know about this. I am not just saying this because I am a Yankees fan but they do these things right. It was a tremendous week for them being out there in the community doing all these good things and all the players and staff were involved and they also went 5-0 during this time. I don't know if it is coincidence or not but there seems to be a lot of good karma going around and maybe that is helping.
The trade talks are heating up with Matt Holliday going to the Cardinals yesterday, this was a good move for them for right now because they have protection for Pujols in the lineup and they should win that division now and who knows once you get to the postseason especially in the NL. Roy Halladay seems on his way to Philidelphia which will really make Mets fans sad but nothing has happened as of yet. The Yankees I am sure are working the phones, I know they inquired into Cliff Lee but the price is too high, I would look for a Jarrod Washburn or someone like that and it may even happen after the deadline in a waiver deal. Everyone go out and enjoy the day and hope the Yankees get another win.

Yanks win 8th in a row
The New York Yankees defeated the Oakland A's tonight by the score of 8-3. Joba Chamberlain got the start and had his second straight good outing since the break. He went 7+ innings giving up 2 hits, 1 run, 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. Phil Coke was good in the 8th as he got out of a 1st and 2nd no out jam without allowing a run. Dave Robertson pitched the ninth, he gave up a couple of runs but got the job done as he finished the game.
The offense was led by Derek Jeter going 3-5, Jorge Posada had a solo homerun and Melky Cabrera also had 3 hits. A-rod had a double. The Yankees have really been doing the little things like moving runners over and hitting sac flys, taking walks and getting clutch hits. They aren't just hitting homeruns anymore which is a great sign. The Yankees will try and make it 9 in a row tomorrow with Andy Pettitte on the mound. The Yankees remain 2 1/2 up on the Red Sox in first place in the AL East and the best record in the AL.

Yanks go for 8th straight
The New York Yankees take on the Oakland A's at 7:05 tonight from the stadium on the YES network. They will be looking for their 8th straight win and another strong pitching performance. Joba was good Sunday and they hope he can contiue that with a second straight good start. Here are the notes and lineup via Peter Abraham
The Yankees will be facing a 21 year old rookie tonight who they hit back in April but he has been hot lately. He has allowed one run on 11 hits in his last 4 starts. He has walked 7 and struck out 25.
The Yankees have a 2.29 era since the break. They have their lowest team era of the season at 4.37 which is 9th in the league.
The Yankees are 3-0 against Oakland this season and have won 7 straight dating back to last season.
The New stadium has given up 157 homeruns this year which is only 3 fewer then the old stadium gave up last year.
Johnny Damon is 8 of 23 since the break, Tex is 9 of 27 with 5 xbh and 7 rbi's. Jorge Posada is 6 of 20 with 4 rbi's and 5 xbh.
A-rod is 3 of 4 on stolen bases since the break which is a good sign with his hip.
The Yankees have won 27 of their last 36 home games.
Yankees lineup:
Jeter(SS)
Damon(LF)
Tex(1B)
A-rod(3B)
Posada(C)

Yanks win 7th straight
The New York Yankees defeated the Oakland A's last night after a long rain delay. The game started at around 9:50 and ended about 12:30 this morning. CC Sabathia got the start and was shaky early but pitched 7 innings giving up 3 runs on 9 hits with 0 walks and 4 strikeouts. Phil Hughes came on in the 8th inning and stayed in for the 9th retiring all 6 batters he faced to get his first major league save. I wonder if this is in his future, he sure seems like he was born to do this but we saw it with Joba and he ended up back where the Yankees said, so I am sure Phil Hughes will be back in the rotation next year but we will see.
The Yankees offense was led by Mark Teixeira who hit a big 2 run homerun on a 3-0 pitch to get the Yankees back in the game after being down 3-0 early. He also had a double later on in the game. Eric Hinske had a rbi single, he seems to always get a big hit when he plays. Johnny Damon had 2 hits and Derek Jeter had a hit and a walk. A-rod had a walk and stolen base and Jorge Posada had 2 hits and 2 rbi's. Robinson Cano had a hit and Melky Cabrera also had a hit in his one at bat. The Yankees seem to be scoring runs in other ways other then hitting only homeruns which is a good sign with the strong pitching and defense they are playing. The Yankees will go for 8 in a row tonight with Andy Pettitte on the mound.
