The New York Mets were defeated by the Detroit Tigers by the score of 3-2 on Friday afternoon. The game took place at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched pretty well. The Mets offense only managed five hits, Jordany Valdespin had a hit and an RBI.
Gee pitched four innings giving up a hit and a run with three walks and a strikeout. LaTroy Hawkins pitched an inning giving up two hits and struck out one batter, Bobby Parnell pitched a perfect inning and Josh Edgin pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run which was unearned. Edgin walked two batters, Cory Mazzoni took the loss pitching one inning and giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts.
Valdespin had a hit and an RBI, Colin Cowgill drew two walks and Matthew den Dekker drew a walk. Travis d’Arnaud drew a walk, Landon Powell had a hit and Zach Lutz had a hit and an RBI. Brandon Hicks had a hit and drew a walk, Josh Satin had a hit and Valdespin hit a homerun. The Mets were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. Baxter and Cowgill each had a stolen base. Tovar committed an error and Baxter had an outfield assist.
Max Scherzer pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up three walks and struck out six. Luke Putkonen pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and four strikeouts, Phil Coke pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jose Ortega pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. Bruce Rondon got the win pitching an inning giving up two hits and struck out two and Jose Alvarez got the save pitching an inning and giving up a walk.
Ramon Santiago drew a walk, Tyler Collins had a hit and an RBI and Brennan Boesch drew a walk. Avisail Garcia had a hit, Ramon Cabrera drew a walk and Don Kelly had a hit and drew a walk. Matt Tuiasosopo had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and hit a double, Collins hit a homerun and the Tigers were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI double by Tuiasosopo. In the fourth Lutz hit an RBI single to tie the game at one and in the seventh each team scored a run. Valdespin hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 2-1 lead and the Tigers tied it at two when Hernan Perez reached on a force attempt error. In the eighth Collins hit a solo homerun to give the Tigers the 3-2 lead and that would be the final score.
The Mets record dropped to 3-6 and the Tigers record improved to 8-6 in the spring. The Mets will host the Houston Astros on Saturday afternoon and the Detroit Tigers will play at the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Yankees fall to the Miami Marlins 6-1
The New York Yankees were defeated by the Miami Marlins by the score of 6-1 on Friday afternoon. The game was played at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida. Adam Warren started the game for the Yankees and didn’t pitch very well. The Yankees bullpen pitched pretty well and the Yankees offense only managed five hits. Melky Mesa was the only player with more then one hit.
Warren pitched four innings giving up six hits and four runs with a walk and he took the loss. Chase Whitley pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs, Branden Pinder pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Mark Montgomery pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout and Shawn Kelley pitched an inning giving up two hits.
Brett Gardner drew a walk, Bobby Wilson drew a walk and Eduardo Nunez had a hit and drew a walk. Luke Murton had a hit, Mesa had two hits and Thomas Neal had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk. Ronnier Mustelier drew a walk, Neal hit a double and the Yankees were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Nunez was caught stealing.

Ike Davis and Matt Van Dekker each had a couple of hits. Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched great, the whole pitching staff only gave up a couple of hits and a run.
Harvey pitched 4 1/3 perfect innings with five strikeouts and picked up the win. Pedro Feliciano faced two batters and retired them both, Josh Edgin pitched an inning giving up a hit and Brandon Lyon pitched a perfect inning. Scott Rice pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out one and Greg Burke pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a couple of strikeouts.
Reese Havens had a hit, Davis had a couple of hits and Marlon Byrd had a hit. Andrew Brown had a hit and an RBI, Justin Turner had a hit and an RBI and Anthony Recker had a hit and an RBI. The New York Yankees were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 7-6 on Thursday afternoon. The game took place at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida. Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and pitched well and Francisco Cervelli had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit and a walk. The Yankees had 11 hits in the game but no player had as many as two hits. The Cardinals had 11 hits also but had two guys with two hits.
Nova pitched three innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts. Brett Marshall pitched four innings giving up five hits and three runs with three strikeouts, Matt Tracy pitched a perfect inning and Kelvin Perez pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs with two of them being earned. He had a strikeout and Josh Spence gave up a hit without recording an out.

The New York Rangers comeback and defeat the New York Islanders in OT
The New York Rangers defeated the New York Islanders by the score of 2-1 in overtime. The game took place at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York. The Islanders took the 1-0 lead in the first period and held it for most of the game. The Rangers were able to tie the game late in the third period on a Rick Nash deflection. The game went into overtime and the Rangers quickly scored on a power play. They have been much better on the power play and that has really helped them. Henrik Lundqvist was good in goal once again.
The Islanders got on the board first at the 11:51 mark of the first period. Michael Grabner scored the goal and was assisted by McDonald and MacDonald. There were no goals in the second period and Nash scored at the 14:37 mark of the third period with assists from Derek Stepan and Carl Hagelin. The game winning goal came at the 42 second mark of the overtime from Gaborik with Nash and Stepan assisting on the goal.
The Rangers had the shot advantage 37-29. Nabakov the Islanders goalie was outstanding and really kept them in the game. The Rangers had a good first period and a dominating third period but they had a lot of trouble scoring on Nabakov. The Rangers had three power plays in the game and the Islanders had none. There was one fight which was more of a scrum and resulted in offsetting unsportsmanlike penalties.
The Rangers have won a season high four games in a row. The Rangers continue to be one point behind the NJ Devils for 7th place in the Eastern Conference. They are in eighth place and will take on the Ottawa Senators on Friday night from Madison Square Garden. Nash since coming back from injury has been great. He has eight points in his last four games which have all been wins. He has eight goals which are tied for them team lead and he has five goals in the four games since returning from injury.
