The New York Mets win a 14 inning marathon over the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday evening.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 5-4.  Jake deGrom started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen pitched pretty well.  Ruben Tejada led the offense with three hits.  David Wright and Bobby Abreu each had a couple of hits. 

deGrom pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with two walks and 11 strikeouts.   Josh Edgin retired the only batter that he faced, Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched one inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Scott Rice pitched 1/3 of an inning walking and striking out a batter.  Jeurys Familia pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts, Buddy Carlyle won his first game of the season pitching three innings and giving up two hits and a walk and Carlos Torres earned his second save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. 

Kyle Kendrick pitched six innings giving up eight hits and four runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Mario Hollands pitched an inning giving up a hit and two walks with a strikeout, Jake Diekman pitched an inning walking one and Jonathan Papelbon pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.  Jeff Manship pitched four perfect innings with six strikeouts and Antonio Bastardo pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and lost his third game of the season. 

Chris Young had a hit and drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit and drew a walk and Wright had two hits and an RBI.  Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk, Abreu had two hits and an RBI and Lucas Duda had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Tejada had three hits, two RBI and drew two walks, deGrom drew a walk and Duda and Abreu each hit a double.  Tejada hit a homerun and the Mets were 4-15 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Young had a stolen base and Granderson was caught stealing.  Murphy committed an error. 

Ben Revere had two hits, Jimmy Rollins had a hit and drew a walk and Chase Utley had a hit and drew two walks.  Ryan Howard had two hits and three RBI, Marlon Byrd had a hit and drew a walk and Dominic Brown had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Reid Brignac drew a walk, Carlos Ruiz had two hits and Byrd hit a double.  Revere hit a triple and Howard hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 2-14 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Revere had a stolen base and Brown was caught stealing. 

In the first Abreu hit an RBI single and Duda an RBI double giving the Mets an early 2-0 lead.  Tejada hit a solo homerun in the fourth to extend the Mets lead to 3-0.  Tejada hit an RBI single in the sixth to make it a 4-0 game.  Howard hit a three run homerun in the seventh to pull the Phillies within a run at 4-3.  Brown hit an RBI single in the ninth to tie the game at four.  In the fourteenth inning Wright hit an RBI single giving the Mets a 5-4 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play on Sunday afternoon in game four of the five game series.  The Mets have won two out of the first three games. 

Masahiro Tanaka and the New York Yankees defeat the Minnesota Twins



The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-1.  Tanaka started and pitched very well.  Brett Gardner, Derek Jeter, Brian McCann and Kelly Johnson each had two hits and Yangervis Solarte had three hits. 

Tanaka pitched eight innings giving up one unearned run.  He gave up four hits and two walks and struck out nine.  David Robertson pitched an inning picking up his 12th save and he struck out the side. 

Kevin Correia pitched six innings giving up nine hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts.  Brian Duensing lost his second game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up two hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Jared Burton pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Gardner had two hits, Jeter had two hits and Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk.  Brian Roberts drew a walk, McCann had two hits and an RBI and Alfonso Soriano drew a walk.  Solarte had three hits and an RBI, Johnson had two hits and an RBI and Jeter hit a double.  McCann hit two doubles and Solarte hit a homerun.  the Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base, Johnson, Soriano and Solarte each committed an error. 

Eduardo Escobar had two hits, Josh Willingham had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Trevor Plouffe had a hit.  Josmil Pinto drew a walk and the Twins were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Pinto committed an error and Oswaldo Arcia had an outfield assist again. 

In the first Willingham had an RBI single to give the Twins a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Solarte hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  McCann hit an RBI double in the eighth and Johnson hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 3-1 lead and that would be the final score.  The two teams have split their first two games and will play the rubber game of the three game set on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Yankees look sluggish in loss to the Minnesota Twins



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Minnesota Twins on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-1.  Vidal Nuno started the game and gave up three homeruns.  The Yankees offense had two runners thrown out at home plate. 

Nuno pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up four runs on seven hits.  He struck out six and lost his second game of the season.  Preston Claiborne pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with two walks and three strikeouts and Matt Daley pitched a 1-2-3 inning. 

Ricky Nolasco won his third game of the season pitching six innings.  He gave up seven hits and a run with four walks and three strikeouts.  Caleb Thielbar pitched a perfect inning, Casey Fien pitched an inning giving up a hit and had two strikeouts and Glen Perkins pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two batters. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Derek Jeter had a hit and Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and an RBI.  Mark Teixeira drew three walks, Brian McCann had a hit and Brian Roberts had a hit.  Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, Yangervis Solarte had two hits and John Ryan Murphy had a hit.  Ellsbury and Solarte each hit a double and the Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Gardner had two stolen bases and Roberts was caught stealing. 

Danny Santana had a hit, Aaron Hicks drew a walk and Joe Mauer had a hit.  Josh Willingham had a hit and an RBI, Oswaldo Arcia had two hits and an RBI and Trevor Plouffe had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Kurt Suzuki had two hits and an RBI, Eduardo Nunez had a hit and an RBI and Eduardo Escobar had a hit.   Santana hit a double, Arcia, Willingham and Plouffe each hit a homerun.  The Twins were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Santana had a stolen base and Arcia had two outfield assists and Nolasco had a pickoff. 

Arcia hit a solo homerun in the second giving the Twins a 1-0 lead.  Ellsbury hit an RBI single in the third to tie the game at one.  In the fourth Willingham hit a solo homerun and Plouffe hit a two run homerun to give the Twins a 4-1 lead.  In the eighth Suzuki hit an RBI single and Nunez hit an RBI single to push the lead to 6-1.  6-1 was the final score of the game.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.  The Yankees will send their ace Masahiro Tanaka to the mound on Saturday.

The New York Yankees end the road trip with a win in St. Louis



The New York Yankees defeated the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri and the final score was 7-4.  Hiroki Kuroda started and pitched ok, the bullpen was ok.  Jacoby Ellsbury led the offense with three hits.  John Ryan Murphy had a couple of RBI. 

Kuroda pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and three runs.  He walked none and struck out three and won his fourth game of the season.  Matt Thornton faced one batter and gave up a hit, Dellin Betances faced one batter and retired him and Adam Warren pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk.  David Robertson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with four strikeouts. 

Shelby Miller lost his fourth game of the season pitching five innings and giving up nine hits and seven runs.  He walked two and struck out one.  Sam Freeman pitched an inning walking one, Seth Maness pitched an inning giving up two hits and striking out one and Randy Choate pitched an inning striking out one.  Jason Motte pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Brian Roberts had two hits and drew a walk and Ellsbury had three hits and three RBI.  Brian McCann had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Murphy had a hit and two RBI and Ichiro Suzuki had an RBI.  Brendan Ryan had two hits, Kelly Johnson had two hits and Roberts hit a double.  The Yankees were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.   Ellsbury had two stolen bases and Ryan committed an error. 

Matt Carpenter had two hits and an RBI, Kolten Wong had four hits and an RBI and Matt Holliday had a hit.  Allen Craig had a hit and an RBI, Yadier Molina had two hits and drew two walks and John Jay had a hit.  Daniel Descalso had two hits and an RBI, Molina, Wong each hit a double and Carpenter hit two doubles.  The Cardinals were 3-15 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.  Maness committed an error. 

In the third Ellsbury hit an RBI single, Murphy hit a two run single and Suzuki hit an RBI groundout to give the Yankees a 4-0 lead.  In the fourth Ellsbury hit a two run single and McCann had an RBI single to give the Yankees a 7-0 lead.  Descalso hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 7-1 game.  Craig hit an RBI groundout in the fifth to cut the lead to 7-2.  In the bottom of the sixth Carpenter hit an RBI double to make it a 7-3 game.  Wong hit an RBI single in the eighth to make it a 7-4 game and that was the final score.  The Yankees won two out of three in the series and were 5-4 on the road trip.  They will have a day off on Thursday before opening a three game weekend series against the Minnesota Twins. 

The New York Mets shutout the Pittsburgh Pirates



The New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-0.  Bartolo Colon started and pitched great.   David Wright had a couple of hits and RBI and Lucas Duda had a couple of RBI. 

Colon pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up five hits and no runs with a walk and nine strikeouts.  Jeurys Familia earned his first save of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings and giving up a hit. 

Charlie Morton lost his seventh game of the season.  He pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out four.  Jared Huges pitched 2/3 of an inning walking one and Bryan Morris pitched two innings giving up two hits and two runs with three walks and two strikeouts. 

Juan Lagares had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and drew a walk and Wright had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Chris Young drew a walk and Duda had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks.  Ruben Tejada drew a walk, Juan Centeno drew a walk and Familia had a hit.  Wright and Duda each hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Wright had a stolen base and committed an error.  Lagares was caught stealing. 

Josh Harrison had a hit, Neil Walker had a hit and Andrew McCutchen had two hits.  Pedro Alvarez had two hits, Chris Stewart drew a walk and Alvarez hit a double.  The Pirates were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Alvarez and Mercer each committed an error. 

The Mets took a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch in the second inning.  Wright hit an RBI single in the third and hit a solo homerun in the sixth to put the Mets up 3-0.  Duda hit a two run homerun in the eighth to give the Mets a 5-0 lead and that was the final score.  The Mets won two out of three in the series.  The Mets will begin a four game series in Philadelphia against the Phillies on Thursday night.
