New York Mets blow lead in ninth and lose again to the Philadelphia Phillies


The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 6-3.  Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and he pitched well, Edwin Diaz the closer imploded in the ninth.  The Mets offense only managed five hits and no player had more than a hit. 

Wheeler pitched six innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Brooks Pounders pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Chris Flexen pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Diaz lost his fifth game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up three hits and five runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Diaz also blew his fourth save of the season. 

Aaron Nola pitched seven innings giving up a hit and no runs with a walk and ten strikeouts.  Juan Nicasio pitched an inning with a strikeout, Hector Neris pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up four hits and three runs and JD Hammer won his first game of the season pitching to two batters and getting them both out. 

Michael Conforto had a hit and drew a walk, Todd Frazier had a hit and two RBI and Dom Smith had a hit.   Wilson Ramos had a hit, Amed Rosario had an RBI and Wheeler had a hit.  Frazier hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Alonso committed an error. 

Scott Kingery had two hits, Jean Segura had a hit and three RBI and Bryce Harper had a hit and an RBI.  Rhys Hoskins drew two walks, Cesar Hernandez drew a walk and Maikel Franco had two hits and two RBI.  Andrew Knapp drew a walk, Sean Rodriguez drew a walk and Harper, Franco and Segura each hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Franco committed an error. 

In the sixth Harper hit a solo homerun to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.  In the ninth Frazier hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets a 2-1 lead and Rosario hit an RBI ground out to push the lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the ninth Franco hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at three and Segura hit a walk-off three-run homerun to give the Phillies a 6-3 win.

The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 5-4.  Jason Vargas started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Dom Smith had three hits to lead the offense. 

Vargas pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs.  He walked two and struck out ten.  Seth Lugo pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts, Robert Gsellman pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and Edwin Diaz pitched a perfect inning and he struck out two.  Stephen Nogosek pitched giving up two hits and a run with a walk and he took his first loss of the season. 

Nick Pivetta pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and four runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  Jose Alvarez pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit, JD Hammer pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Adam Morgan pitched to one batter and got him out.  Hector Neris pitched an inning and struck out one and Edgar Garcia pitched an inning and had a strikeout and won his second game of the season. 

Jeff McNeil had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Pete Alonso had two hits and Smith had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Amed Rosario drew a walk, Tomas Nido had two hits and an RBI and Vargas had a hit.  Juan Lagares drew a walk, Alonso and McNeil each hit a double.  Smith and McNeil each hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Alonso and Smith each had a stolen base and Smith was caught stealing and picked off. 

Jean Segura had two hits and three RBI, Bryce Harper drew two walks and Rhys Hoskins drew a walk.  J.T. Realmuto had two hits, Jay Bruce had two hits and an RBI and Cesar Hernandez had two hits and an RBI.  Maikel Franco had a hit and drew a walk, Brad Miller drew a walk and Bruce hit two doubles.  Realmuto and Hernandez each hit a double and Segura hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Realmuto committed an error and Alvarez had a pickoff. 

In the fourth Smith hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth McNeil hit a solo homerun to push the Mets lead to 2-0.  In the sixth Nido hit an RBI single, McNeil hit an RBI double and it was 4-0 Mets.  In the bottom of the sixth Segura hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-1.  In the seventh Hernandez hit an RBI double and Segura hit a two-run single to tie the game at four.  In the tenth Bruce hit an RBI double to win the game for the Phillies.  The final score was 5-4 in ten innings.

The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 7-5.  Walker Lockett started for the Mets and he pitched ok.  Jeff McNeil led the offense with four hits. 

Lockett pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Wilmer Font pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs and he took his second loss of the season.  Robert Gsellman pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out two and Chris Flexen pitched an inning striking out one. 

Jake Arrieta won his seventh game of the season pitching six innings and giving up nine hits and five runs.  He walked two and struck out two.  Adam Morgan pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout, Juan Nicasio pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and Hector Neris pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and he saved his 16th game of the season. 

McNeil had four hits and an RBI, Pete Alonso had a hit and Robinson Cano had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Michael Conforto had an RBI, Todd Frazier drew a walk and Dom Smith had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Wilson Ramos had a hit, Amed Rosario had two hits and an RBI and Lockett had a hit and drew a walk.  McNeil and Cano each hit a double and Rosario and Smith each hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-12 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Rosario had a stolen base and Cano committed an error.

In the first Cano hit an RBI single and Conforto hit a sac fly to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Kingery hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the second Rosario hit a solo homerun to push the Mets lead to 3-1.  In the third Smith hit a solo homerun making it a 4-1 game.  In the bottom of the fourth Hoskins hit a solo homerun and the lead was cut to 4-2.  In the sixth McNeil hit an RBI single and the lead was 5-2.  In the bottom of the sixth Bruce hit an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 5-3.  Hernandez hit an RBI single and Franco hit a two-run homerun to give the Phillies a 6-5 lead.  Miller hit a solo homerun to make it 7-5 and that would be the final score.   

New York Yankees win a wild one to cap off a three-game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays


The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-7.  James Paxton started for the Yankees and he pitched horrible.  The Yankees bullpen did a good job and Aaron Judge, Didi Gregorius and Gleyber Torres each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Paxton pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and six runs with four walks and three strikeouts.  David Hale pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two, Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out three and Stephen Tarpley pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Zach Britton pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run and he won his third game of the season. 

Trent Thornton pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Sam Gaviglio pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts, Joe Biagini pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run and Tim Mayza pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Daniel Hudson pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Nick Kingham pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk.  Kingham lost his second game of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Judge had three hits and two RBI and Gary Sanchez had a hit.  Luke Voit had two hits and an RBI, Edwin Encarnacion had a hit and Gregorius had three hits and an RBI.  Aaron Hicks had an RBI and drew two walks, Torres had three hits and an RBI and Brett Gardner had a hit.  Voit and Encarnacion each hit a double and Gregorius and LeMahieu each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Voit and Torres each committed an error.  Hale had a pickoff and Sanchez had a passed ball. 

Cavan Biggio had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Vlad Guerrero Jr. drew a walk and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had three hits and four RBI.  Randal Grichuk had a hit and drew a walk, Rowdy Tellez had a hit and Freddy Galvis had a hit.  Brandon Drury had a hit, Danny Jansen had three hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Gurriel Jr. hit a double.  Gurriel Jr. hit two homeruns and Jansen hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Grichuk was picked off. 

In the first Gurriel Jr. hit a three-run homerun to give the Jays a 3-0 lead.  In the second Jansen hit a two-run homerun and it was 5-0 Jays.  In the bottom of the second Gregorius hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 5-1.  Judge hit a two-run single and it was 5-3.  In the fourth LeMahieu hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at five.  In the fifth Gurriel Jr. hit a solo homerun to give the Jays back the lead at 6-5.  In the bottom of the fifth Hicks hit a sac fly to tie the game at six.  In the sixth Voit hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 7-6 lead.  In the ninth Biggio hit an RBI single to tie the game at seven.  In the ninth Torres hit an RBI single to walk-off the Yankees with a 8-7 win.  The Yankees earned the three-game sweep and they will be off four a couple of days as they head to London, England to take on the Boston Red Sox in a two-game weekend series.   

New York Yankees hold on for victory over the Toronto Blue Jays


The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3.  Chad Green started as the opener and pitched one clean inning.  The Yankees bullpen pitched well and they hit four solo homeruns. 

Green pitched an inning with a strikeout, Nestor Cortes Jr. pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with five strikeouts and he picked up his third win of the season and Tommy Khanle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Stephen Tarpley pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Zach Britton pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Chapman picked up his 23rd save of the season. 

Clayton Richard pitched six innings giving up eight hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Richard lost his fourth game of the season.  David Phelps pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and he struck out one and Tim Mayza pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts.

Eric Sogard had an RBI, Vald Guerrero Jr. had a hit and an RBI and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had two hits.  Cavan Biggio had a hit, Randal Grichuk had a hit and an RBI and Freddy Galvis had a hit.  Danny Jansen had a hit.  Biggio and Jansen each hit a double and the Blue Jays were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Gurriel Jr. had an outfield assist and Richard had a pickoff. 

In the first LeMahieu and Judge each hit a solo homerun and the Yankees had a quick 2-0 lead.  In the second Torres hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 3-0.  In the sixth Sogard hit a sac fly and Guerrero Jr. hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the eighth Encarnacion hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 4-2.  In the ninth Grichuk hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-3 but that would be the final score.  The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Wednesday afternoon.
