New York Mets drop a close one to the Atlanta Braves

 

The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 5-4.  David Peterson started for the Mets and he pitched ok and the Mets offense only managed four hits. 

Peterson pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Drew Smith pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts, Miguel Castro pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout and Aaron Loup pitched giving up three hits and a run without recording an out.  Justin Barnes pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts and he took his first loss of the season. 

Charlie Morton started for the Braves and he pitched six innings giving up two hits and a run with eight strikeouts.  A.J. Minter pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three unearned runs with a walk and a strikeout, Luke Jackson pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Chris Martin pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Will Smith pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Jonathan Villar had a hit and an RBI, Dom Smith had a hit and James McCann drew a walk.  Jose Peraza had a hit and an RBI, Tomas Nido had a hit and two RBI and Peraza hit a double and Villar hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Maybin had a stolen base. 

Ronald Acuna Jr. had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks.  Freddie Freeman had two hits and Austin Riley had two hits.  Dansby Swanson had two hits, William Contreras had a hit and an RBI and Guillermo Heredia had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Morton had a hit and an RBI, Riley and Swanson each hit a double and Acuna Jr. hit a homerun.  The Braves were 5-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Swanson was caught stealing.  Minter committed an error. 

In the fourth Villar hit a solo homerun giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Heredia hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  Morton hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-1  and Acuna drew an RBI walk to make it a 3-1 game.  In the seventh Peraza hit an RBI double cutting the lead to 3-2 and Nido hit a two-run single giving the Mets a 4-3 lead.  In the bottom of the eighth Conteras hit an RBI single to tie the game at four.  In the bottom of the ninth Acuna Jr. hit a walk-off solo homerun to give the Braves a 5-4 victory.   

New York Yankees win behind Corey Klubers no-hitter

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas and the final score was 2-0.  Corey Kluber started for the Yankees and he was brilliant, historic as well as he pitched a no-hitter.  The Yankees offense didn’t do much but Gleyber Torres had two hits in his return to the lineup. 

Kluber pitched nine innings giving up no runs or hits and walking one while striking out nine.  He was one walk away from a perfect game, that is how dominant he was.  It was a masterful performance for him and the Yankees first no hitter since David Cone Pitched a perfect game in 1999. 

Hyeon-Jong Yang started for the Rangers and he pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with four walks and two strikeouts.  He picked up his first loss of the season.  Brett Martin pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out both batters, Taylor Hearn pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Hunter Wood pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

DJ LeMahieu had an RBI and drew a walk, Luke Voit drew a walk and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Torres had two hits and drew a walk, Kyle Higashioka drew two walks and Tyler Wade had a hit and an RBI.  Wade hit a triple and the Yankees were 0-1 with runner sin scoring position and left two men on base. 

Charlie Culberson drew a walk and the Rangers left one man on base. 

In the sixth Wade hit an RBI triple and LeMahieu hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will finish their four-game series on Thursday afternoon.  This will be the rubber game as the Yankees have won two of the games and Texas has won one.    

New York Yankees defeat the Texas Rangers

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas and the final score was 7-4.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  The bullpen was good and Aaron Judge, Roughned Odor, Miguel Andujar and Mike Ford each had two hits. 

Taillon pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs.  He walked two and struck out three.  Wandy Peralta earned his third win of the season pitching an inning with a walk and a strikeout, Jonathan Loaisiga pitched 1 2/3 innings with a strikeout and Chad Green pitched a perfect inning.  Aroldis Chapman picked up his tenth save of the season.  He pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out the side. 

Mike Foltynewicz started for the Rangers and he pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs.  He walked one and struck out one and lost his fourth game of the season.  Kolby Allard pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Hunter Wood pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts and Brett de Geus pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout.  Brett Martin pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and three RBI, Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk and Judge had two hits.  Gio Urshela had a hit and two RBI, Odor had two hits and Gary Sanchez had a hit and an RBI.  Kyle Higashioka had a hit, Andujar had two hits and an RBI and Ford had two hits and drew a walk.  Ryan LaMarre drew a walk, Urshela, Sanchez, LeMahieu and Odor each hit a double.  The Yankees were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Willie Calhoun had a hit, Nick Solak had two hits and two RBI and Nate Lowe drew two walks.  Joey Gallo drew a walk, Adolis Garcia had a hit and two RBI and David Dahl had a hit.  Andy Ibanez had a hit, Jonah Heim had a hit and Calhoun, Heim and Ibanez each hit a double.  Solak hit a homerun and the Rangers were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Garcia had a stolen base. 

In the third Solak hit an RBI single, Garcia hit a two-run single and it was 3-0 Rangers.  In the fourth Urshela hit an RBI double, Sanchez hit an RBI double, Andujar hit an RBI single and LeMahieu hit a two-run double giving the Yankees a 5-3 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Solak hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 5-4.  In the sixth LeMahieu hit a sac fly to push the Yankees lead to 6-4 and in the ninth Urshela hit an RBI groundout extending the lead to 7-4 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game three of four on Wednesday night with each team having one a game.

New York Mets get swept by the Tampa Bay Rays

 The New York Mets were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday.  The game took place at 

Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 7-1.  Marcus Stroman started for the 

Mets and he didn't pitch well.  The Mets offense only managed two hits.  

Stroman pitched six innings giving up six hits and five runs.  He walked one and struck out one and 

lost his fourth game of the season.  Robert Gsellman pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out

two and Edwin Diaz pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout.  

Josh Fleming pitched five innings giving up a hit and he struck out five.  He picked up his third win of

the season.  Diego Castillo pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run, Ryan Thompson pitched a 

perfect inning with a strikeout and Colin McHugh pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts.  

Cody Reed pitched a perfect inning.  

Jeff McNeil had a hit, Patrick Mazeika had a hit and an RBI and Kevin Pillar drew a walk.  Mazeika

hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  

Hager had an outfield assist and Gsellman had a pickoff.  

Randy Arozarena drew a walk, Austin Meadows had a hit and Ji-Man Choi had three hits and an RBI.  

Brandon Lowe had a hit and an RBI, Manuel Margot had two hits and three RBI and Willy Adames  

two hits and two RBI.  Brett Phillips had a hit, Choi hit a double and Margot, Adames and Lowe each

hit a homerun.  The Rays were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Phillips

had a stolen base and Adames was caught stealing and Adames was picked off.  Wendle committed an 

error.  

In the bottom of the fourth Margot hit a two-run homerun to give the Rays a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of

the fifth Adames hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 4-0.  In the sixth Mazeika hit a solo 

homerun to cut the lead to 4-1.  In the sixth Lowe hit a solo homerun making it 5-1 and in the eighth

Choi hit an RBI double and Choi hit an RBI single to make it 7-1 and that was the final score.  

The Mets were swept in the three-game series and will begin a series in Atlanta on Monday  night.  



New York Mets get pummeled by the Tampa Bay Rays

 The New York Mets were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday.  The game took place at 

Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 12-5.  Drew Smith started and pitched

well, the bullpen did not pitch well and Dom Smith led the offense with two hits.  

Smith pitched two innings giving up two hits and an unearned run.  He struck out three.  Joey Lucchesi

took his third loss of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings and gave up three hits and four runs with a walk 

and two strikeouts, Sean Reid-Foley pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with two 

strikeouts and Tommy Hunter pitched two innings giving up two hits and no runs with two walks and a 

strikeout.  Jacob Barnes pitched giving up two hits and three runs and a walk without recording an out 

and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts.

Shane McClanahan started for the Rays and he pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs

with a walk and seven strikeouts.  He picked up his first win of the season.  Andrew Kittredge pitched

1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts, Jeffrey Springs pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a 

walk and two strikeouts and Cody Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit.  

Francisco Lindor had a hit and an RBI, Michael Conforto had a hit and Pete Alonso had a hit and an 

RBI.  Smith had two hits and drew a walk, James McCann had a hit and drew a walk and Jonathan 

Villar had a hit.  Jose Peraza had a hit and three RBI, Peraza hit a homerun, Alonso and Lindor each hit

a homerun.  The Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Villar had a 

stolen base and Nido committed an error.  

Randy Arozarena had three hits and an RBI, Brandon Lowe drew a walk and Yandy Diaz had three hits, 

two RBI and drew a walk.  Joey Wendle had four hits and two RBI, Manuel Margot had a hit and an

RBI and Willy Adames had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks.  Mike Zunino drew a walk, Brett 

Phillips had a hit and two RBI and Austin Meadows had two hits and an RBI.  Diaz hit two doubles,

Wendle hit three doubles and Hunter, Adames, Meadows and Phillips each hit a double.  The Rays were

8-18 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Wendle had a stolen base.  

In the bottom of the first the Rays scored on a stolen base to take a 1-0 lead.  In the second Peraza hit a 

three-run homerun to give the Mets a 3-1 lead.  In the third Alonso hit a solo homerun extending the 

lead to 4-1.  In the bottom of the fourth Margot hit an RBI single, Adames hit a two-run double and 

Meadows hit an RBI double to give the Rays a 5-4 lead.  Arozarena hit an RBI single and it was 6-4.  

In the eighth Lindor hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 6-5.  In the bottom of the eighth Diaz hit a 

two-run double making it 8-5 and Wendle hit a two-run double to push the lead to 10-5.  Phillips hit

a two-run double to cap the scoring at 12-5.  

The Mets will try and avoid the three-game sweep on Sunday afternoon.
