The New York Mets were defeated by the San Diego Padres on Friday night by the score of 3-1. The game took place at Petco Park in San Diego, California. R.A. Dickey started for the Mets and pitched well and Richard started for San Diego and pitched well. Ronny Cedeno and Ruben Tejada led the Mets offense and Yonder Alonso led the Padres offense.
Dickey pitched seven innings giving up four hits and three runs with two of them being earned. He walked three and struck out nine. Dickey is now 14-3 on the season. Jon Rauch pitched a perfect inning. Clayton Richard won his eighth game of the season pitching seven innings giving up eight hits and a run with two walks and two strikeouts. Luke Gregerson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and Huston Street saved his 18th game of the season pitching 1 1/3 perfect innings with a strikeout.
Tejada had two hits, Andres Torres had a hit and David Wright drew a walk. Scott Hairston had a hit, Ike Davis had a hit and Jason Bay drew a walk. Cedeno had two hits and an RBI, Dickey had a hit and Justin Turner had a hit. The Mets were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base. Thole committed an error and Torres had an outfield assist. Dickey also had a pickoff.
Chris Denorfia had an RBI, Carolos Quentin had a hit and drew a walk and Alonso had two hits. John Baker had a hit and an RBI, Cabrera drew two walks and Alonso hit a double. The Padres were 1-1 with runners in scoring position and they left two men on base. Cabrera had a stolen base and was picked off.
The Mets record dropped to 52-55 and the Padres record improved to 45-63. The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday night.
