The New York Mets hammer the Minnesota Twins 16-4 in Minnesota

The New York Mets defeated the Minnesota Twins by the score of 16-5 on Friday night. The game took place at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Jon Niese started and pitched ok but not great, the bullpen pitched well. Daniel Murphy and David Wright led the offensive attack. 
Niese pitched five innings giving up five hits and five runs with four of them being earned. He walked four and struck out one. Scott Atchison pitched two innings giving up a hit, Greg Burke pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Aaron Laffey pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Jordany Valdespin had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Murphy had four hits and four RBI and Wright had three hits, four RBI and drew a walk. Ike Davis drew two walks, John Buck had a hit and four RBI and Lucas Duda drew a walk. Marlon Byrd had two hits and two RBI, Mike Baxter had a hit and Ruben Tejada had two hits. Murphy hit two doubles, Wright and Tejada each hit a double. Byrd and Wright hit a triple and Buck hit a homerun. The Mets were 6-13 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base. Tejada committed an error.

Vance Worley started for the Twins and pitched an inning giving up seven hits and nine runs with seven of them being earned. He walked two and struck out one. Pedro Hernandez pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with a strikeout, Ryan Pressly pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and four runs with none of them being earned. He walked two and struck out one, Brian Duensing pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Glen Perkins pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk.

Aaron Hicks drew a walk, Joe Mauer had two hits and drew a walk and Josh Willingham had an RBI. Justin Morneau had two hits and an RBI, Ryan Doumit had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Trevor Plouffe had a hit and an RBI. Pedro Florimon drew a walk, Mauer and Morneau each hit a double. The Twins were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base. Plouffe and Florimon each committed an error.

The Mets scored five runs in the first and second inning, the Twins scored a couple in the first and it was 10-2 Mets after two innings. The Twins cut the lead in half with three runs in the fifth. Morneau hit an RBI double and Doumit hit a two run single. In the seventh Murphy hit a three run double and Wright an RBI triple to make it 14-5 Mets. In the ninth Valdespin hit an RBI groundout and Murphy a sacrifice fly to make it 16-5 and that was the final score.

The Mets improved their record to 6-4 and the Twin record dropped to 4-6. The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday afternoon at 4:10PM.
