The New York Mets winning streak ends in Miami with 5-1 loss

The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins by the score of 5-1 on Friday night. The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida. Shawn Marcum started for the Mets and didn’t pitch as bad as his final line would indicate. Daniel Murphy had a couple of hits to lead the Mets offense which wasn’t very good. 
Marcum pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs with two walks and four strikeouts. Marcum is now 0-6 on the season. Robert Carson retired the only batter that he faced, Greg Burke pitched an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run.

Omar Quintanilla had two hits, Murphy had two hits and an RBI and Lucas Duda had a hit. John Buck had a hit, Marlon Byrd drew a walk and Ike Davis had a hit. Davis and Murphy each hit two doubles and the Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Byrd was caught stealing and Quintanilla committed an error.

Jacob Turner pitched seven innings giving up five hits and no runs. Turner walked one and struck out three and picked up his first win of the season. Mike Dunn pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Pat Cishek pitched an inning striking out one.

Juan Pierre had a hit, Derek Dietrich had a hit and Marcell Ozuna had three hits and an RBI. Chris Coghlan had a hit, Ed Lucas had a hit and an RBI and Greg Dobbs drew two walks. Jeff Mathis drew a walk, Brown had a hit and two RBI and Dietrich, Brown and Ozuna each hit a double. The Marlins were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Pierre was caught stealing.

In the seventh inning the Marlins scored four runs to take a 4-0 lead. Lucas hit an RBI single, Mathis hit a sacrifice fly and Brown hit a two run double. In the eighth Murphy hit an RBI double to make it a 4-1 game. The Marlins tacked on a run in the eighth and the final score was 5-1 Marlins.

The Mets five game winning streak ended and their record fell to 22-30. The Marlins record improved to 14-41. The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday afternoon.
