The New York Yankees are swept in the Subway Series by the New York Mets

The New York Yankees lost to the New York Mets on Thursday night by the score of 3-1. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Vidal Nuno pitched for the Yankees and pitched well, he made one mistake which cost him. The Yankees offense was anemic with the last 20 hitters being retired. The Yankees have played great with all their players hurt but have finally seemed to hit their wall and need to get their guys back. They are expected to get both Mark Teixeira and Kevin Youkilis back on Friday night. Andy Pettitte is coming back on Monday so this all should help them. Dillon Gee looked great for the Mets but I think it was more about the Yankees being so bad offensively.
Nuno pitched six innings giving up two runs and three hits. He walked two and struck out two and lost his second game of the year. Shawn Kelley pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a run and a walk with three strikeouts, Boone Logan walked one and struck out one in 1/3 of an inning and Joba Chamberlain pitched 1 1/3 inning giving up a hit and striking out three.

Gee pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up one run on four hits. Gee didn’t walk a batter and struck out 12 which was a career best. Scott Rice pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one and Bobby Parnell pitched a perfect inning to pick up his ninth save of the season. Parnell struck out one.

Brett Gardner had a hit, Robinson Cano had two hits and an RBI and Brennan Boesch had a hit. Cano hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.

Justin Turner had a hit, David Wright drew a walk and John Buck had a hit and an RBI. Lucas Duda drew two walks, Marlon Byrd had a hit and two RBI and Anthony Recker had a hit. Omar Quintanilla drew a walk, Turner and Recker each hit a double and Byrd hit a homerun. The Mets were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Buck had a stolen base and Omar Quintanilla committed an error.

The Yankees have now lost five games in a row and were swept in the four game Subway Series. The Mets have now won five games in a row. The Mets record improved to 22-29 and the Yankees record fell to 30-23. The Yankees will stay at home to start a three game series with the Boston Red Sox on Friday night and the Mets will head to Miami to take on the Marlins in a three game series beginning Friday night.
