The New York Mets shutout the Philadelphia Phillies

The New York Mets shutout the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon. The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 8-0 Mets. Matt Harvey started and pitched great. The bullpen was good and Eric Young Jr. and David Wright led the offense.


Harvey pitched six innings giving up no runs and two hits. Harvey walked one and struck out six and earned his seventh win of the season. LaTroy Hawkins pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Brandon Lyon pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out two.

Young Jr. John Buck drew a walk. Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI, Omar Quintanilla had an RBI and Harvey had a hit and an RBI. Wright hit two doubles, Harvey, Young Jr. and Lagares each hit a double and Byrd hit two doubles. Wright hit a triple and a homerun and the Mets were 5-17 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.

John Lannan lost his second game of the season pitching five innings. He gave up eight hits and six runs with four of them being earned. He walked three and struck out three, Joe Savery pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run, J.C. Ramirez pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jake Diekman pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run.    The Mets scored in the first, fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth innings.  Byrd hit a sacrifice fly in the first.  Harvey, Young Jr. and Wright each hit RBI doubles in the fifth.  Lagares hit an RBI double and Quintanilla had a sacrifice fly in the sixth.  In the seventh Byrd hit an RBI double and in the ninth Wright hit a solo homerun to complete the scoring at 8-0 Mets.    The Mets will have the day off on Monday and then begin a two game series in Chicago.  They will take on the White Sox on Tuesday night.
