The New York Yankees lose a tough one in Baltimore

The Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees on Friday night. The final score was 4-3 and the game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland. CC Sabathia made the start and was cruising and then had a bad sixth inning. He didn’t pitch a bad game, his defense didn’t help him either. Robinson Cano had three hits to lead the offense.

Sabathia pitched seven innings giving up five hits and four runs with six strikeouts. Sabathia took his sixth loss of the season and Joba Chamberlain pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Brett Gardner had two hits, Jayson Nix had a hit and Cano had three hits and an RBI. Vernon Wells had a hit and an RBI, Zoilo Almonte had a hit and Chris Stewart had a hit and an RBI. David Adams had a hit and drew a walk, Lyle Overbay had a hit and Gardner hit a double. The Yankees were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Almonte had a stolen base and Gonzalez committed an error.

T.J. McFarland pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs with a walk and four strikeouts. Kevin Gausman picked up the win, his first of the season. Gausman pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up three hits and he struck out four and Tommy Hunter picked up his second save of the season. He pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out three.

Manny Machado had a hit and two RBI, Adam Jones had a hit and an RBI and Nate McLouth had two hits and an RBI. Alexia Casilla had a hit, Machado hit a double and McClouth hit a homerun. The Orioles were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.

Cano hit an RBI single in the first to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. In the third Wells hit an RBI single and Stewart hit an RBI single to make it 3-0 Yankees. Machado hit a two run double and Jones hit an RBI single in the sixth to tie the game at three. In the seventh McClouth hit a solo homerun to give the Orioles a 4-3 lead and that would be the final score.

The Yankees have now lost three games in a row and are falling further behind in the AL East. The Yankees record dropped to 42-37 and the Orioles record improved to 45-36. The two teams will play game two of the three gam
