The New York Yankees shutout the New York Mets



The New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets on Thursday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 1-0.  Chase Whitley made his major league debut for the Yankees and pitched well, the bullpen was great especially Dellin Betances.  Jacob DeGrom made his major league debut for the Mets and pitched very well.  Alfonso Soriano drove in the only run of the game and each pitcher had a hit. 

Whitley pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up no runs and two hits.  He walked two and struck out four.  Betances pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up no runs and no hits.  He struck out six of the seven batters that he faced, Adam Warren pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up one hit and walking one and striking out two and David Robertson pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts and picked up his seventh save of the season.  The win went to Betances, his second of the season. 

deGrom pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out six and lost his first game of the season.  Scott Rice pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two walks and striking out one, Jeurys Familia pitched to one batter and retired him and Josh Edgin pitched to one batter and retired him.  Jennry Mejia pitched one inning giving up two hits and and no runs with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner drew two walks, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and Mark Teixeira had a hit and drew a walk.  Brian McCann had a hit, Soriano had two hits and an RBI and Whitley had a hit.  Kelly Johnson drew a walk, Ellsbury and Soriano each hit a double.  The Yankees were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Daniel Murphy had a hit, Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew a walk and Centeno drew a walk.  deGrom had a hit, Bobby Abreu drew a walk and the Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the seventh Soriano hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead and that was the only run of the game.  The two teams split the four game series with each team winning both road games.  The Yankees are 21-19 and will now host the Pittsburgh Pirates in a three game weekend series.  The Mets will play at the Washington Nationals in a three game weekend series.
