New York Yankees defeat the Toronto Blue Jays



The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-4.  Hiroki Kuroda started and was ok, the bullpen was great.  Chase Headley had three hits and Francisco Cervelli had two hits. 

Kuroda pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Kuroda picked up his seventh win of the season.  David Huff pitched a perfect inning, Shawn Kelley faced one batter and retired him and Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.  David Robertson pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two.  Robertson picked up his 26th save of the season. 

Mark Buehrle lost his seventh game of the season pitching three innings and giving up nine hits and six runs.  He walked one and struck out two.  Todd Redmond pitched three innings giving up two hits and struck out four, Brett Cecil pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Dustin McGowan pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had an RBI, Derek Jeter had a hit and Carlos Beltran had a hit and an RBI.  Brian McCann had two hits, Headley had three hits and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk.  Brian Roberts had a hit and an RBI, Cervelli had two hits and Headley hit a double.  Beltran and Ichiro each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Headley was caught stealing and Cervelli had a passed ball. 

Jose Reyes had a hit, Kawasaki had a hit and Melky Cabrera had a hit.  Jose Bautista had three hits and four RBI, Dioner Navarro had a hit and Juan Francisco had a hit.  Ryan Goins had a hit, Anthony Gose had a hit and drew a walk and Bautista hit a double and two homeruns.  The Blue Jays were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Navarro had a pick off. 

In the first the Blue Jays took a 3-0 lead on a Bautista homerun.  The Yankees came back with two in the second to cut the lead to 3-2.  Roberts hit an RBI single and Gardner hit a sacrifice fly.  In the third Bautista hit a solo homerun to give the Jays a 4-2 lead.  The Yankees came right back with four runs in the bottom of the third.  Beltran hit a solo homerun and Suzuki hit a three run homerun to give the Yankees a 6-4 lead.  6-4 would be the final score, after all the early scoring it tightened up in the later innings.  The Yankees have won seven of eight on their current ten game homestand.  The Blue Jays have lost 13 straight at Yankee Stadium and the two teams will play game two of their series on Saturday afternoon.
